Matron of Ravens isn’t evil. Vax has already made a deal to be her champion. She isn’t demanding anything for granting him more power. It’s more that the more aligned and dedicated Vax becomes to the Matron the more power he can access.

Agreed, RiP to an absolute legend of an actor. He was so impressive as Thordak that i can *not* imagine who could possibly take up the mantle if he hadn't had a chance to step into the role for season 3 and do his line work. Hopefully, he had the opportunity to get the work in, because he was the perfect casting choice for Thordak.

So… a LOT got resolved this season: * Vex grew to accept and approve of Kiki and Vax finding their way to getting together, as well as practically disowning her father and standing up for herself. * Grog overcoming his weakness to find where his true strength came from and liberating the herd from Kevdak’s tyranny. * Vax found a new purpose in becoming the Matron’s champion. * Kiki finally took the proper first step in her Aramente, having passed through fire, as well as being brave enough to want to pursue Vax. * Scanlan discovering that he has something (or rather, someONE) to live for. But perhaps THE most important character development of all? Mosco actually growing to like Scanlan! Who would have imagined?!

Vex's reaction to Vax's wings was accurate to the stream. Hilariously, Vax had accidentally ruined their flying carpet and Vex technically HANDED over the Deathwalkers Ward to him. This, plus some additional slightly spoilery context: VM didn't discover the eggs until later - Thordak's time spent on the Fire Elemental Plane, and fusing with the Soul Anchor used to trap him there, augmented his ancient draconic physiology, so his power not only comes from being an ancient dragon but also the Fire Plane itself. He was able to reproduce asexually, so those are *his* eggs. The broader implications of what his plan would mean for Exandria haven't been explored in Critical Role - *yet* - but in the subsequent campaigns, and the Tal'Dorei Setting Reborn handbook, they reference the fact that his presence has left scars on Emon and the surrounding landscape for decades to come - rifts to the Fire Plane exist under the city and throughout the land where Fire elementals are able to cross over into the Prime Material dimension and the Ashari basically have their hands full sealing those rifts and beating back incursions from firedrakes and other monsters. It's also a key element of the plot of the homebrewed adventure I'm working on at the moment, entitled Hoard of the Cinder King - keep your eyes peeled for that from Tales From The Arclight. ;)

Campaign 1 taught them that they can do more through role-playing than (admittedly awesome) "heroic action", and also have deep, meaningful, emotional arcs. Explanation for you Wee Lass: So dragons essentially require gold as it fuels their magic and makes them grow. You were right that he's using it to incubate the eggs. It gets worse though, all the Chroma Conclave are ancient so are very powerful but because Thordak has the gem and spent so much time in the fire plane (where we saw Keyleth go earlier this season), he's transcended past a mere red dragon and if the babies hatch they will essentially become a new species of even more powerful magma/elemental dragons.

That line of Vex's where she says "I get a broom and you get fucking wings?!" is a line lifted directly from the campaign. Laura Bailey, as Vex, REALLY wanted to be able to fly. She wanted it so badly, in fact, that she stole that broom from Chris Hardwick's guest character, Gern Blanston. And not, like, she pocketed it and Hardwick forgot to ask about it. No, he asked where it was and she rolled a Deception check right to his face and convinced Gern that the broom had been destroyed. I love Laura Bailey, but she is a chaos goblin of the highest order.

I like that you've started taking a liking to Scanlan. I really think that in the beginning his crude humor was fine cause it wasn't a show. It was a game between friends but then it got picked up as a live stream and that one super inappropriately sexual joke made by a now erased cast member among everything else said member did really make Sam reevaluate things and start lightening the frequency of his fuckery and then when may threw in Kaylie it was the final kick in the pants for Scanlan to grow up

  • @sandpiperr

There was a lot of differences between Sam and he whom we don't mention, though. Sam was always very respectful of other people and while his jokes were crude, they didn't put anyone on the spot. The joke you're referring to did. Plus that point in the campaign That Guy was having so many boundary issues that Marisha actually said "don't touch me again" during a stream. Plus, the way a joke like that lands depends on context and trust, and by then That Guy had just worn all of his out by being an attention hog on stream and not keeping his hands to himself.. As evidenced by how pissed Travis got when That Guy made the joke, and he's so much not the possessive toxic masculinity type that later in the campaign he was cheering as his wife described her character making out with well...not Grog (I don't think that small spoiler will surprise anyone)!

@@tycol322 I get it, I just don't think many people do see Sam like that because he does understand the difference between being crude and being a creep. Like I said, when it comes to a dirty joke landing it depends on timing, trust, and, frankly, do they put anyone on the spot in a way that might make them uncomfortable? The Joke from That Guy was very much creepy because it was aimed at Vex and by extension Laura. However, idk if you're caught up on C3, but Sam's 'named after favorite smells' joke from episode 1 was arguably a lot cruder than That Guy's joke. However, it didn't make people uncomfortable, because it wasn't aimed at anyone. I do also agree that, yes, he did have to consider how he played Scanlan because up until that moment, both Scanlan and Grog basically just talked all the time about going whoring, but Sam realized that having a daughter would make Scanlan feel differently about that.

The Deathwalker's Ward, exalted! It happened later than this, but Laura was just as miffed that Liam could fly too. "There's no such thing as luck," says the guy with the Luck feat; perhaps he should have renamed it Fate when he started taking levels in paladin. Heh, my reaction to the head was, "That's just rude." Pike's a snack, and you're *thirsty.* In its exalted form, Mythcarver can grant the bearer four melee attacks at the cost of a point of exhaustion, making it a great finisher. It's a magical effect, well represented here... bards so rarely get to charge into the fray. Now you know who the grumpy girl glaring at Grog was; Raishan originally impersonated the spymaster of the Tal'Dorei council, occasionally visiting Whitestone to keep them apprised of the situation in Emon, before eventually revealing herself. Remember how Grog split Brimscythe's head in twain? That killing blow was originally on Umbrasyl. Vax got the killing blow on the blue; look Brimscythe up on the Critical Role wiki, there's art of it from the old pre-stream animatic. Where's season 2's soundtrack, eh?

If you want more back story without spoilers, Look at the Vox Machina Origins Comic series. There are more comics than that one, but they could be spoilery as they cover the upcoming Might Nein Campaign, now reading them after the Might Nein Animation airs, would be good, because resolves some backstories.

Thordak and his eggs: essentially, Thordak had been trapped in the elemental plane of fire for so long, and was so suffused with elemental energy, that he had become a being capable of producing asexually. He is using the gold to incubate eggs which will produce a new species of dragon/elemental hybrid. When this was first revealed during the live stream i loved it! It's like a fire's ability to catch and spread purely by virtue of its own existence. Thordak is the starting flame and his offspring are the wildfire he wants to ravage Exandria with once they hatch.

This makes a strange amount of sense, honestly, because there are some species of lizard that are capable of a form asexual reproduction known as parthenogensis.

My best bet is Vox Machina Season 3 will drop in January 2024. Since Season 1 and 2 dropped then. I figure they'll try and drop mighty nein during the Summer so we have a new season of Critical Role every 6 months give or take.

No release date for season 3 of LoVM or season 1 of the as of yet untitled Mighty Nein (pronounced like 9) show yet unfortunately. But they are definitely coming and in the meantime, there's no shortage of actual campaign streams to watch if your Ashley withdrawl gets too much XD You could watch up to episode 56 of campaign 1 withough fear of spoilers, which is over 200 hours of content, so by the time you're through with that there's probably more animated stuff to watch.

So about that key. We don't know what the key. As this was not in the original campaign. However, it is obviously a magic item that people believe is a magic item detailed in one of the campaign book. Press "read more" for more info. It is suspected to be the Infiltrator's Key that is one of the Vestiges of Divergences that was mentioned in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. It basically gives you advantage in opening doors like a thieve, as well as being able to cast spells that are generally used to sneak around and get into places (Invisiblity, knock, Alter Self, etc), and can in its final form can even make magical openings)

Yes and no you are correct with the gold with the eggs. Now depending on what version of dragon lore yiu follow the more gold a dragon accumulates the more powerful it is. Now with an army of dragons with 100% of the wealth of a total realm you will in theory have a extremely powerful army to content with

If you want more Ashley, I suggest going ahead and watching the campaign itself. Sadly she does miss a lot, but it's always a treat when she is able to be there. If you're concerned about spoilers, you can watch up through episode 55 of the first campaign. Assuming it takes a year to get the next season, that would take you well past when the next season likely releases. However, I wouldn't worry about spoilers. Having seen everything Critical Role has produced, the animated series still feels fresh. Partly because it's such a different experience, and partly because they did change quite a big (especially everything between episodes 6-8, that was significantly different). A couple warnings, if you haven't already heard. They didn't know what they were doing when they started streaming, so they had a lot of technical issues in those early episodes. Especially sound quality. It bothers some people, but it's not that bad. The worst is done by like episode 6 or so. The other issue is they used to play with another guy. He had issues. Eventually they had to let him go. He could be very annoying. But honestly, there's so much that they setup in those early episodes, that it's worth putting up with. And he really only has a few egregious incidents of being problematic. One of the things that the animated series can't do is show the player reactions. Some of the most memorable moments from their campaigns are so memorable because of how the cast reacted. So it's really worth a watch.

I have issues with this episode. I love the show, but I feel like they fumbled the end a bit. Umbrasyl completely healing himself before the last fight was the first in my opinion. It negated the accomplishments of everyone in the previous episode. And afterwards apparently nobody could actually damage him again. Then Umbrasyl went from basically undamaged to dead by a single strike, which puts Mythcarver on a higher pedestal than the other vestiges. If they would have shown the dragon almost completely healing himself, then gradually getting more and more hurt, but just not going down would have been better. And the party just running out of gas, and whatever they do not being enough The way they showed VM getting more and more hurt, and losing vestiges was fine. But in my opinion it would have been more like the stream and better in a story telling sense as well if Scanlan's strike would have been the final, epic stroke, after everyone else doing their part and just jot being enough. An yes, I get that they wanted to emphasize how much of a Hope Devourer Umbrasyl is, but I feel like they overdid it, and doing so they set up Mythcarver as the single strongest dragonkilling weapon.
