I concur with your observations It most definitely is some sort of leather.

Historically these would have been cloth-like like heavy linen or even canvas to be more rugged. You can try waxing the canvas (especially the top part) to give it a stiffer and more rugged look?

My GTX 970 agreed with you ages ago =p. The shoulderarmour is leather, the rest of the coat fabric =).

Hey, you know that shay has 2 tunic right? Between those 2 tunic there's a red things now if you pay attention you will see a black thin fabric in the middle of the red things will u do that??? (Sorry about my language)

It´s true , the top part is leather ... but I think in this one CGI trailer you can see that the rest is leather aswell .... or maybe it just looks like it since it´s covered in hardened mud or so ... I think you´ll be good using the fabric you already bought for the coat though ... just concider making the top out of leather ! ... don´t forget to give this part a used look though since unweathered leather may end up looking kind of awkward XD .....keep it up man ! It´s gonna look great anyway^^

KADArt Cosplay I'm 99% sure I will make the top out of leather, deerskin to be precise. It will give that extra bit of awesomeness to the costume. The rest will be fabric else it will be way too expansive.
