Do it, I’ve been (halfassed) playing lead guitar for a while but him and a few other artists lead me in the direction of banjo. New chords were easy, changing to rhythm and singing along have been a fun challenge

Ok, after I listen to that, it's confirmed that Shawn James is the king of the current folk. Man, you deserves all the space, the Earth is smart for what your music can be. Keep on this way, we need you to bring back the music to this world

This song saved my life on so many occasions. I suffer from severe depression, and sometimes it gets so bad that I really feel like giving up on life itself. But I always come back to this song when such negative emotions take over - and it helps me cry, and release these terrible feelings... And it gives me so much hope. Shawn, if you ever see this, I just want to thank you. A thousand times, I thank you for this beautiful masterpiece.

While I'm familiar with what you're referring to, just based on the other lyrics, it seems he's more or less referring to the fold in terms of giving up.
