Your great great aunt actually wrote this song. It isn't actually a traditional Irish song at all, but was adapted by Karan Casey in the 1990s and that version is the one most people sing or adapt these days. You should be very proud to have had such an awesome lady in your family :)

Joseph Ruff Viking era and Western era are almost the same only differences one was in europe on the seas and fought with swords and axes and the other was in America on land with guns. But the eras end of freedom to usher in control from christ or the federal government are essentially the same in context it's interesting the parrelells history gives us. And it teaches us true freedom is dead.

I could fall asleep listening to him. I feel calm and comferted for some reason.

I started tearing up during this song. First time ever listening to him and I'm hooked on his voice--it's hauntingly beautiful, especially with the cavern's acoustics. The way his voice (tenor voices are so gorgeous when utilized by the right person) reverberates off the rocks and mixes with the guitar strums is perfect. Technicalities aside, my heart started racing, my eyes started tearing up, and I felt a peace I've never gotten from a song before.
