I love this song. I just lost my husband in October. This is one of the last things he shared with me. It's the best version of this song. It'll be with me forever,as well as all the other shawn James songs I've heard

I really love the song choice more than anything. This isn't really the sort of song that I'd imagine Shawn covering, no disrespect to Macy Gray, just based on Shawn's sound and music he makes. @Shawn James Not sure if you’ll read this but I logged on just to comment on this song in particular. Dude, you need to sing like this more often. I know you have your preferred style; dark (more like soul), gritty, deep, etc. Many, almost every song you sing has those elements and I love many of them. But this... I can point out 3-4 distinct singing variations in this song from you, especially at the end. I didn’t even know you *could* sing like that. Lows, highs, very crisp clear sound. It’s truly impressive. I listen and hunt out for pure acoustic stuff constantly. It’s almost all I listen to. I show so many people random songs from my favorite singers like Brent Smith, Myles Kennedy, Amy Lee, Brendan Urie, etc. You’re in my group as well and I just played my dad your Like a Stone cover. He preferred Chris’s original which is fine, it’s a totally different style but I played this for him after and he was suuuper impressed. Obviously I’m not asking you to cater to individuals’ styles, you do you. I guess I’m just saying, long story short, this is such a vocal flex from you and I’m so glad it’s on the new album. It’s performed spectacularly. Like, it’s really good, and I don’t even care for the original *that* much. This is my favorite in the album by a long shot. And I very much like quite a few of them.

Ha ha, I had no clue he did a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover when I just wrote a comment that I'd give anything to hear Ronnie Van Zant's Lynyrd Skynyrd (pre 10/20/77) rendition of - I TRY , after it's been 'Skynyrdized'. I would say this is lyrically perfect not many singers alive could change at 3:30 as you went high verse before that you couldn't go back to singing low again you nailed this absolutely perfect I loved macy grays version but you blew this out the water not many times a cover is better than a classic well done be proud #scotland
