Shashwati Mandal: Raag Jhinjhoti
First Edition Arts organised and curated their third annual Diwali Concert Series on 4th October 2014. The event was sponsored by Union Bank of India.
This year's opening artiste was Shashwati Mandal, one of the leading exponents of the classical form of Tappa. Here she performs a khayal in Raag Jhinjhoti. She is accompanied by Pt. Vishwanath Shirodkar on Tabla and Smt. Seema Shirodkar on Harmonium. The concert was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

The very begining of a raga by a vocalist is his or her introduction of his or her singing acumen. Here your begining of the raga, Jhijoti is exactly that. The entire rendition of the wonderful raga Jhijoti, from the very begining till the end, building up a perfect body and soul of the raga amalgamating deeply with your soul with one another. Excellent voice projection, powered with high quality of 'granules' (jawari). The result is that this high quality of rendition altogether. Wonderful ...... wonderful rendition. Extraordinary blending of notes, presented very delicately , without laying any stress anywhere , which is a very difficult temptation to stay away from ! Drut bandish is presented with masterly command over more than an octave and a half ! Simply brilliant .

Very nice! This vilambit bandish was actually composed by Acharya Pt SN Ratanjankar in Ektaal, looks like Shashwatiji has re set it to Rupak here. Drut bandish is by Pt Dinkar Kaikini

Very sincere artist and brilliant performances!! Just one suggestion to the uploader is that ' Two wonderful tappa composition which are presented by the artist and uploaded separately must be named according to their respective Ragas ie Khamaj and Sohini. Otherwise it is confusing for many.
