Bazm e Khas presents a renowned Indian name Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (Sitar Player) performing Raag Jhinjhoti.
Ustad Shahid Parvez belongs to an illustrious musical family and has achieved success in not only preserving the tradition, but in pushing its boundaries to greater heights. He is one of the leading exponents of the Etawah gharana (tradition).
Jhinjhoti is regarded as a light rag, Nevertheless it is practiced in both dhrupad and khayal tradition by vocalists as well instrumentalists. Furthermore, the rag is commonly used in semi-classical genres of tappa and thumri and also features in verses used in Hindu wedding rituals (mangalashtak). In dhrupad tradition the rag is sometimes referred to as Kambhoji.

Hearing Ustadji play this raga - it’s like feeling the joy of meeting an old friend after decades, and realizing that much has changed on the surface - grown so much - but underneath it all, nothing has changed at all. The bond of friendship, the shared memories, the childhood joys, all come flooding back. That’s just in the first 10 minutes of the Alap. How incredibly wonderful.

उस्ताद शाहिद परवेज यांचा हा जिंझोटी राग वाजवताना ऐकताना उस्ताद विलायत खान , आणि त्यांचे शिष्य श्री अरविन्द पारेख यांची हमखास आठवण येते . वाजवण्यातील मुलायपणा आणि हळुवारपणा तुम्हाला जाणवतो. अशा दर्जाचे कलाकार आता फार थोडेच उरलेले आहेत. बऱ्याच काळानंतर इतके सुंदर वादन ऐकायला मिळाले पूर्वीच्या दरडी कलाकाराला भेटल्याचा आनंद मिळाला आणि पृष्ठभागावर बरंच काही बदललं आहे - इतकं वाढलं आहे - पण या सगळ्याच्या खाली काहीच बदललेलं नाही.
Lovely playing by Ustadji. One of his favourite ragas too. The tabla accompaniment is also really beautiful. Soft, sonorous and almost in the background, but Rafiuddin ji is quite a legend himself.

IndianClassical97 Lucky for lovers of Indian Classical Music! :-) There are lots of wonderful artists out there, but for sitar, his interpretation of every raga brings something new while remaining deeply traditional every time I have the good fortune of listening to it. I am eternally grateful to BAZM-E-KHAS!

Happy that he is. Unquestionably the finest sitarist after the great triumvirate. Plays with introspection and excellent control of instrument.

@@debabrataghosh7589 Ustadji is brilliant, but I would say there are a number of post-triumvirate sitarists who are his equals. Manilal Nag, Budhaditya Mukherjee, Mita Nag, Debu Chaudhuri, Rais Khan, and Arvindh Parikh are people I would include in this company.
