Calvet and Gastogne are the French equivalents of Sharpe and Harper. Calvet, in particular, is the best French character in the series.

I wholeheartedly agree. When I began watching the series, I was like "what the hell, an electric guitar?". Worst of all, this was right after I finished watching Hornblower lol. But it grows on you very nicely after a few episodes.

On one hand it's been 'many years' since Maquerre was home, so the defences of the castle could be weak, but on the other he claims intimate /current/ knowledge of Bordeaux's population. If it's not obvious by now he's a traitor then Monroe and Wellington are wilfully blind.

Even if you've seen the film or all of them, may I suggest reading anyone of the whole series even not in historical order. You get a much deeper insight into the history and background + politics of the times, common soldiers comssioned officers and the historical heroes!I read them all and was pissed when there were no more left!

I recommend chronological order, starting with Sharpe's Tiger in India. That way the books make more sense.

@@RasMajnouni the films had a different target audience and purpose. Also nobody knew how popular the franchise would be so the budget was low. Plus they missed out books and combined others. Oh and the usual 'artistic licence' excuse.

I like how the first frenchey on horse back got shot and fell before sharp even fired a round. My only problem with the acting in this show is how people fall when shot or stabbed, like in episode 3 when sharp shoots a French dragoon and he grabs his arm and falls off his horse dead like why the fuck did an arm shot kill him instantly and it's painfully obvious that every sword fight ends with the sword in between their arm and chest.
