Nirav is an absolutely amazing person. The way he so politely and genuinely said "Give me a counter" just shows he's open to getting a lower percentage. I've never seen a shark just asking for a counter like that, literally open to go lower. Also, he gets behind the owners and says "I believe in you" so passionately. It's such a boost of morale hearing that from a Shark.

Not using a lawyer to draft a contract is like not going to a doctor to perform your surgery. Robert was right, if people want a prenuptial agreement, they will go to a lawyer.
The sharks are sometimes so out of touch. Robert saying “why wouldn’t they go to a lawyer?” Ummm bc $5,000 is not a trivial amount of money for most people. Most people would rather go on a honeymoon than use it for a prenup.

A someone who has worked in the field of estate planning I have seen the absolute disasters that occur when people have used software to create important legal documents. And these forms are "attorney created" too. The potential for coercion, abuse and outright forgery is also great when using this process. You can't count on the Notary facilitating the signing to catch those. And yes, I understand that the 5k you are paying an attorney is mostly for a copy of a template they've used over and over. I'd suggest a hybrid model. The couple does most of the work and creates the document itself, but a live attorney reviews it. That way you're only paying for an hour or so of their time and the safeguards are still in place.
@chrbx13

So basically their website isn't unique, just typical statements on there that you can get through a lawyer? Doesn't that mean anyone can start a prenup site?
never seen Nirav Tolia not smiling! such a humble and positive man!
From Personal experience I think their business would’ve worked without any sharks… That was a brilliant idea.
As an attorney, I understand this problem - especially the legal fees. However, the idea of creating a legally binding document online in a few hours is horrifying. There’s a good chance that most people won’t know what everything means. Even if they think they understand all the terms, contact law can be very complex. Then, once they realize their mistake, that’ll create more legal fees (and nightmares) on the backend. So, I agree that providing affordable prenups is an important service - but their customers run the risk of making things infinitely worse for themselves.
@imaginaryfriend8260

Was wondering too if the thousands of dollars affects the quality I hope they’re doing it well!!
Wow, that eyeroll at "30%" 7:03 lmaoo like, girl...
By far, best presentation. Come with the wedding dress, talk about the preparations, but the moment we start talking business, bam!!! Full business attire. I love the genius behind that because prenups are strictly business. Fantastic execution.
There are a few questions about this service that I see presenting problems in the future. For one thing, if a couple uses a lawyer for a prenup, they usually don't use the same one because their interests are bound to conflict. If they each have independent counsel, the agreement will be much more likely to hold up in court. How are each of the couple's rights protected when they use the same program? Also, some states limit what can be included in a prenup, so the program would have to be state-specific to include those limitations. Is it? Finally, how do they ensure that both of the potential spouses are agreeing to the prenup? Lawyers act as witnesses to the signing, or some even video the signing. If the couple later divorces, video documentation of the signing could be used to prove that the agreement was not entered into under duress. The presence of witnesses and/or a notary can also be used to ensure that the agreement will hold up in a court. Maybe these issues are addressed by the program, but if not, I would be careful about using it. You never know what will happen in future.
@EmpressMermaid
Жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. The potential for abuse and coercion are definitely here. I know of a case of a mentally challenged man that a woman tried to get him to agree to sign over all his trust fund to her in a prenup. Fortunately the lawyer caught it because the man was not competent to sign. And I've worked in the estate planning field so I know what disasters can come from using software and templates on your own.

I suppose the fact both parties are participating in the same program means they are actually empowering their own self interests as a family rather than that of money grabbing lawyers and the broken system they've created with divorce laws. So the terms set in the agreement is actually more accurately representative of the people signing it, and transfers more responsibility to the people getting married/signing the contracts. If hello prenup is successful, it might indicate people are actually valuing themselves more than they used to.

Also whats stopping legalzoom from doing the exact same thing they are and absolutely crushing them
One of the biggest issues i see with this business is where someone is under coercive control and while they may "agree" it maybe under duress with "witnesses" who are helping in that control as its being done at home. The point of going to lawyers for a prenup agreement is for the impartiality and verification aspect. On top of this, there maybe specific laws in each state/region due to divorce where those who have had prenups were determined by the court to be absolutely useless. These are major gaps in the business idea which i think it wont succeed.
@arthurduncan5838

This is NOT true! Lawyers only represent ONE party They can’t hold a fiduciary duty to two parties man. I mean they CAN… but the $5k cost she quoted is retainer for TWO lawyers as each party needs their own. The very nature of having “full representation” though is that the two lawyers take forever as they “negotiate”. Just removing the lawyers and having each person fill out the questionnaire, then IF they disagree on anything the app then moves to a shared form to hash out details. $599 vs $2500x2 Day ? Vs Months ?

I don't blame them for wanting another shark. A quarter of your business is a lot for one person to hold. But 2 having 15% is not nearly as worrisome
This is brilliant and so intuitive. Not sure if there's much data to back it (yet), but I just know it's a good idea. I went to college with a bunch of rich kids and ALL their parents want them to get prenups. Everything they said about younger generations wanting prenups is so true. The marriage rate among millennials is still far lower than previous generations, so there's a lot of time for this space to grow as millennials eventually settle down. Not to mention, more accessible prenups in-and-of-itself can cause the marriage rate to tick up a bit.

Legal binding financial agreements barely hold up in court this will make many lawyers very wealthy when crunch time comes invalid as soon as children born etc just like on line wills not worth the paper theyre wriitem on lots of lawyer's get rich undoing the damage these things do
The fact the brought a dead Kevin back to life is amazing
Kevin's comment "cry me a river" was ffin hilarious

My Sister told me to get a prenup, I said why my Wife is more wealthy than me! Happily together 22 years.

Like in Seinfeld when George asks his fiance for a prenup and she laughs in his face cause she’s rich and he’s poor, ‘sure I’ll sign your prenup🤣’

Interesting. My future fincee has the money of gods. Im the ambitious guy who is solid but not rich. Any divorce from her and I'm in top 1% of this country in networth. Not my goal at all though.
I can't imagine the back end security being up to the necessity it needs to be with the amount of capital invested. Even at current updated figures. They are one good pen test away from every aspect of you and your financial situation at someone's hands

What do u mean, can u elaborate
Man robert looks great for a 60 year old
I would have invested before they even finished the pitch
gee they were SO LUCKY. And that Nirav really saved them.
Ironically so simultaneously Exciting & Depressing at the same time!
What I want to know is that would these prenups be actually legal ? Or are they just going to be easy to break it without a lawyer .
Robert's Mom: I'm giving birth. Robert: I'm out ...
So cool they pulled Kevin back in
Total feel-good episode 😊♥️♥️♥️
Methinks there was part of this presentation not included in the broadcast or clips. They mentioned this would print cash at the end, but during the video were trashing them for writing so few actual prenups.
This is going to be big one day
I think thats actually a great idea
Way to go!!
Millennial here. My partner and I are engaged. Unfortunately, neither of us have family leaving us a trillion dollars but financial literacy and responsibility are extremely important to us. We are not rushing down the aisle because we are paying for everything ourselves. We’re now debt free and refuse to accrue any debt to get married. We will absolutely be using Hello Prenup. This is the perfect solution to a huge gap in accessibility to prenups for so many couples. I’m glad the sharks invested and happy they’re doing so well. This service was needed.
Mark wearing shark socks is epic
They put Kevin in without any royalty agreement 🙄🙄🙄. For a moment when they said they wanted a another partner i was thinking may be they wanted to partner with Mark Cuban. But they wanted Kavin. I think it's the first time in shark tank history some wanted Kavin so badly. They gave extra 5 percent. Kavin must be crying from inside. 😜😜😜😜
I'm sorry but if i get a PreNup i am MAKING SURE i go through a lawyer and do it correctly. Wont be risking no loophole bs
Prenups rarely hold up in court, let alone in cases where there wasn't independent legal advice...
