It was hard for me to find a beginners guide to know what to purchase when interested in shark fishing. Hopefully this video will help you get started.

I caught a 10 foot tiger on my 9/0 but it was on a boat and it could've easily spoiled me cuz right after I hooked another huge shark and it ran forever and smoke started coming out of the reel

A conventional reel on a rod designed for spinners. Really knowledgeable guy right here. With this setup and choice of gear, I bet my house you just got into fishing.

@@xCRO3x the eyes of the 9/0 are for spin rods. that means the spine of the rod is backwards in relation to how he is using it.

FWIW, the 12/0 and 14/0 are both still made in the US.

Thoughts..... was thinking of running 65lb power pro braid with 50lb mono on top for bull shark up here in NJ you think that would get the job done... still trying to figure out what type of rod and reel to run though. Kind of doing this on a budget. The set up i have now i can easily (kind of) pull in 3-4 footers but i know there are bigger out there because i have hooked into them but cant get them in.

the 9/0 on a 5.6 foot rod with kast king 150 8 stian can easily bring on over 10-12 foot shark on a pier if you have a great drag and do a little custom work me and the wife use them more than our 12/0 qr 14/0 's we have they can bring in 300-500 + size fish way under used. thanks Friend. ram and Alicia. U only need a longer rod to break the surf, so ur lines not getting swashed around. Just use a longer pole holder to keep your line up. A shorter rod like that actually gives u the advantage when fighting the fish rather than a 8 to 10 foot rod. Check out landsharks shark rod video👍🤙

On my 14/0's i use 6' rods for fighting leverage. I use concrete weights that i make out of solo cups with quick crete. Use a longer rod if you use braid, very important, your braid with be ruined in a matter of hours from the sharp sand cutting it. Seems impossible but its true, especially with a strong current or tide moving your line. If you must use braids because of reel space limits, use a longer rod to keep your braid off the bottom. Always use fresh/frozen bait, Nothing rotten. Mullet and rays work the best where i go in southwest florida.

Would 100lb braid with 80lb mono on top be a good shark set up?

yes. that is a great reel. 45lbs of drag and holds alot of braid. you will do best with 100lb braid and a top shot of 100lb mono. and at least an 80lb rod.

helps with abrasion resistance the mono is way cheaper so when the shark or the shore scratches your line you can replace it without replacing $100line
