Sharing Space - Episode 1: Daniel Radcliffe

We're proud to share the first episode of Sharing Space, moderated by longtime supporter of The Trevor Project Daniel Radcliffe. Sharing Space, a new roundtable series featuring conversations with LGBTQ young people, provides a much-needed platform for young trans and nonbinary voices to share about their personal journeys and explore what genuine allyship looks like among curious, open-minded adults and allies.
The first episode of “Sharing Space” features six trans and nonbinary young people who sit down with Radcliffe to have a candid, vulnerable, and illuminating conversation about their unique lived experiences.
The Trevor Project’s mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. If you or someone you know needs support, text START to 678678, call us at 1-866-488-7386, or visit TheTrevorProject.org/Get-Help to chat.

That is indeed the best thing you can do. You don't waffle around trying to apologize or making up some kind of excuse for it, you do something that shows that you are no longer part of that legacy. At the end of the day, Daniel going out and actually /listening/ to people within these groups instead of doing the easy thing of saying "I stand with you, thoughts and prayers lol" shows that he has a lot more backbone than half the "allies" that say they do.

Allowing these kids to live in delusion isn't love. Love is being honest. No you can't become a man or woman just because you say so. We have and need norms and "rules" in a functioning society. Example being I can't just walk in and fly an airplane because I've been struggling with my identity and identify as a pilot. I can't identify as the president or an animal or a cloud and expect to be taken seriously in society.

  • @laurelbeach4529

@@TiltyFishPoker I don’t know, as a society, we often let children explore who they are, how they want to live, and who they hope to be. Plenty of children pretend to be pilots or dinosaurs or mothers or have imaginary friends. It’s an important part of growing and learning. Of course, identifying as a pilot is very different from flying a plane without proper training and a license, but no trans people identify as trans without experience living as a trans person. In general I don’t care if you identify as a pilot or a cloud or a cat as long as you aren’t putting anyone in danger. See the difference?

I came up with a good solution for people who for whatever reason decide they are going to change their gender, pronouns, etc.... I just don't associate with them anymore. These people need help that I just can't give them by simply cowering to their constantly changing "identity". I just pretend like they don't exist as best as I can. It's called the "grey rock" technique for responding to abusers. A particularly egregious case was with a coworker who cut her hair, changed to they/them, got a promotion, and began yelling at coworkers for not affirming her new identity, all in the same week. I like my job, and so I simply stopped talking about her or to her. I completely ignored her except for "Yes" and "No" answers when absolutely necessary. These people have the woke power structures behind them, and so it's all you can do at this time while keeping your job. In the meantime, when you go home from a job like this, make sure you write your representatives to voice your opinion about coerced language, child mutilation, and all the rest of it. And research the companies that take a stand against Pride and support them! But at work, just grey rock them! Ignore the abusers

It's a biological fact that humans don't change sex. How can you demand that people believe that a man is actually a woman if you're not in a cult? What you call transitioning is nothing but the enactment of a set of sexist stereotypes. There's nothing wrong in being a man. I'm man myself, regardless of my preferences, and being a man is not an offense. You can dress whatever you want if it is appropriate for the circumstance, nobody cares. do you think that if any of them desist, their stories will remain interesting to Daniel Radcliffe or mainstream culture generally? There are 45k people on the r/detrans subreddit expressing deep regret about not being able to undo sexually experimental medical procedures. They are the untold stories. The story you see above? It's told by mainstream culture ad nauseum, and if any of these poor souls veer off track from the mainstream narrative of unquestioning gender affirmation? They'll be forgotten. This must change. Tell detrans stories!

I'm 49 years old Polish/British gay man and I fully support and respect trans people. Thank you to all involved in this conversation - visibility and sharing experiences are very important, we all want to know and understand more about trans people's experiences. I know a few trans people, but I feel like asking them trans-related questions is wrong, as they are much more than just trans people. So these public conversations are very useful, as they cover the topic, and in "real life" we can move on and talk about the same things as everyone else, rather than focusing on gender identities. Thank you.

Every kid up there expressed that they did this because they didn’t fit a gender stereotype. Think about that. We have entered an age where if you don’t fit an outdated completely made up definition of what a man or woman is, the current protocol is to drug the child in preparation to cut off body parts. These children will be lifelong patients because no one told them they can like whatever they want, wear whatever they want, and there’s no right or wrong way to be a boy or girl.

People have been self-identifying throughout history and it's only modern western culture that excludes trans and non-binary people. @@Raine.in.love., your comment is actually quite bigoted. Colors, preferences, and clothing do not confer a sexuality upon you. Women and girls can love the color blue, sports, superheroes, etc. Men and boys can love pink, frilly things, and Barbie. Men can wear makeup, have fancy, long hair and wear dresses. None of that makes them "not a man". Being gay/lesbian/bisexual is perfectly fine. Having a sexual attraction that is "counter to the norm" doesn't mean that you "should have been the other sex". This is why Pride was created. The "trans" argument attacks this reality and reality in general.

Honestly shocked how far our science has come. One thing I am wondering is long term effects? My friend had a boob job and it messed her up. I feel like some of the surgeries and hormones could have negative effects on their health, no? Heck I had to try five different birth controls before I found one that worked for my body because I had so many side effects.

There's no studies on the long term effects but it shortens their lifespan significantly to pump large amounts of hormones they're not supposed to have at high levels and vice versa of the hormones they should have being blocked. They're literally experiments.
