🎧 'Sharevari' by A Number Of Names, a Detriot techno progenitor from 1981, a glorious, incredibly funky homage to Kraftwerk. Video is legendary: live dancers on The Scene '82, pushing Soul Train lines to the next level. Diplo turned me onto this gem 💎 I could watch a whole channel of this... dying to hear the rest of the playlist!

Man growing up in the late 80's and 90's as a kid I was made to believe that techno was purely a "white people" thing when this proves otherwise and goes even further back than I imagined. I mean sure you had stuff Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Gary Numan, which I'm not taking nothing away from those guys but this here is clearly a prototypical EDM way different from the stuff before since the emphasis is on rhythm more than texture or tonality. I'm also guessing since it has acoustic drums this must have been recorded and put on wax in 1980 or 1981 before drum machines like the Linn and Roland 808 became widely available or more common place. Shout out to the brothas and sistas in Detroit for embracing electronica and revolutionizing the game by incorporating elements like Funk and Disco which gave rise to Electro, House, Acid House and early Hip-Hop among others. 😇

It’s literally the first “official” Techno song written by “A Number of Names”. It was poking fun at the eclectic music kids in the D were listening to back then - a mix of European syth heavy music, Italo disco, and a whole lotta funk.

I dont think that this would help much. This video here is too much denoised and sharpened and imho now looks much more ugly than the original. Someone should rejoin audiotrack of this one with the untouched video of the dirtbombs' version.(Maybe increasing the contrast a little). Such aggressive 'remastering' as on this is more a loss on authenticity than a gain on quality. And higher definition video will not change that. Sorry for that much blahblah, enjoyed the un-remastered version much more.
