Thanks for sharing. There's a method that I used that tagged files with their folder names as they were uploaded, which would work well here too - saving the user from having to enter any meta-data. Although you still keep the folder structure, you can use the folder-less view to engage the metadata filtering. Thanks again! ☕

@Karlstens - I thought I did that a while ago, and started looking through my notes to see how and who I did it for, but couldn’t find anything. I started searching on google and KZread but still no luck. How did you do it? It’s very helpful when in folderless view.

what are document sets and when are they required

A document set is basically a content type within doc libraries. This content type creates a folder in the library. The folder can also be automatically populated with pre-determined files upon creation if you like. These folders are also designed to work with metadata (unlike standard "yellow" folders in SP). The best use case is when you need to have multiple files associated with a singular thing inside a doc library and you want to be able to assign metadata to the container (folder) for all associated files related to a singular thing. An example would be a library that is used to house files related to several auto manufacturers. You would create a document set in the library for each manufacturer. Inside those folders you could house word docs that describe several models for that particular manufacturer. As far as when document sets are "required"...they are never really a requirement...just another tool you can use to organize your files/folders in a meaningful way. I hope this helps!!!

Hello, do you know how to not require tagging on the folder? because i switch the meta-tagging required for the files and it also requires the folder. :( I need help on this. Thank you so much!

@@SharePointIn60Seconds I did the required tagging on the metadata set up on the library settings. What it did was it is also requiring the folder to be tagged. The metadata supposed to be on the individual files only. 😔

@@marrahidanan9622 Sorry I still don't understand. I have a library that uses folders and metadate for the files. I also have requirements on some of the columns. I am not being forced to add metadata info for the yellow folders.
