In your videos the guitar tones and the tasteful visual noise add together to make a really satisfying whole. It's like your video quality is this light satisfying overdrive, it's hard to explain 😅 Watched some of your long-form guitar reviews yesterday with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed everything about them. Superb stuff!

My brother thank you. Much appreciated. Trying out this new coloring and grain. Liking the results so far and good to know that it isn't too distracting! Cheers!

Thanks. I have both pedals and recently discovered Bukovac on EQ pedals and the Boss GE-7 in particular. So perfect timing. I'm chasing Jerry Tone with a Silver Sky, a 61 reissue Strat, a cheaper but modded PRS SE with coil taps and a boost which I call a Pseudo Eagle, and finally a Dead Spec. Lots of variables. I've tried combining the pedals in various ways. I've explored using the MXR 10-band EQ and the Empress Para EQ. I can't say I completely understand it all. What I've settled on is based on the particular tone I'm chasing. One a failure, one a success. Somewhere on KZread I saw the DC-Boost used at the end of the chain as a sweetener. I had no luck with that. What I hit the jackpot with was the M-EQ after a UA Maxx Compressor. I used modest drive on the pre-amp in the Maxx and the M-EQ. And run them into a Simplifier-X with the Bass off and the Mid and Treble at 10. The M-EQ was perfect at taming the Treble and bringing out the mids and the combination was clean with just a little grit. Though the Para EQ really helped enliven the Pseudo-Eagle, which is semi-hollow, it was unnecessary with the Strat-like guitars. I'm definitely not arguing this would work for everyone, and I'm still experimenting. I do like your point about the DC-Boost being used to shape the basic guitar tone and will try it. But since Garcia had many different tones over the years, it's a moving target. I'm chasing 1977 or slightly earlier and sometimes I'm not sure what I'm chasing given the woods, pickups, and other electronics in each guitar. In general your favorites are higher gain than mine. At least at the moment. But I appreciate your giving me something to think about. In Bukovac's Rig Rundown he shows how to change the neck pickup of a 335 or Les Paul into a Gretch using an EQ. I think EQ is worth trying to master. And though I'm still an EQ beginner, I've overcome my reluctance to turn the knobs. Only way to develop an ear. Thanks again.

@@SuperdangerStudios Will do. In fact I'll do it right now 🙂 I'm not a studio guy, so I'm not currently capable of describing or maybe even hearing WHAT you hear. Though I do hear differences and have preferences. But I've often heard teachers mention two things. One is that practicing with clean tones helps you hear your problems and that distortion often hides them. I like distortion - Hendrix, Page - but I'm also interested in understanding what does what. And that will vary with guitar, pickups, and gain. Plus your hands. A combinatorial explosion. So it confuses me. I'd like to see a comparison of the M-EQ, the DCX Boost, and a regular Equalizer like the Boss GE-7, on a single coil guitar, maybe your Silver Sky SE (if you still have it, or maybe even a 335 if you prefer humbuckers) with clean to mild gain. The hope being to understand exactly what the EQ on the Origin Effects pedals are doing. Like a grad school course on tone. Tom Bukovac calls the GE-7 his most important pedal. I'm assuming he has adaptive hands so maybe the adaptive circuitry is more useful to me than him. But the M-EQ has allowed me to play with the volume around 4 on the guitar. I know lots of guys use 10 with a slight roll off. But I heard Warren Haynes prefers his around 2. I haven't decided, but I really want to understand in the simplest way, the 7 or 10 band EQ, what these OE pedals are doing. Finally I've heard studio guys say the first thing they do is roll off the bass, because they know it will never make it into the mix. One Nashville guy said that while he usually listens to producers, he asked one if they could listen to his no-bass guitar part in the mix. The producer had told him he didn't like the guitar tone. In the mix, they both thought it was great. Since I play by myself, I probably prefer more bass. But it would be interesting to compare two guitar parts, one in the mix, one alone. You might be just the guy to pull it off. If you know Firesign Theater, you'll know Nick Danger.

Hey man! First of all let me say that I absolutely love your channel, it's so cool and you have a very fresh approach that I've never seen anywhere else! Anyway, I have a question related to the IR's you're using. In your opinion, are the ones in the Ox Stomp better than the York Audio ones that you used with the Iridium? If so, do you think it's worth the upgrade? Thank you very much and cheers from Italy! 🇮🇹

Man, you sound amazing. I'm having a very hard time to adapt to playing with cab sims and even the Lion from uafx. I just can't seem to find a sound that I can play to. Can you make a video about your setup? Do you play with headphones or monitors? Can you feel the sound the same way of an amp? Thanks, really love your channel!

That Pedal Show recently did a show on the UA Woodrow, Ruby, and Lion with the guy from UA. They didn't like the Ruby IIRC and wanted to revisit it. I have the Dream, which I love, with the JBL cabs. I have the Woodrow and really couldn't make progress, perhaps for reasons similar to you. However they made it sound really good. I haven't tried my Ruby and don't have the Lion. IIRC one guy, Mick I think, liked the Woodrow as did I, and Dan preferred the Lion. But it was close. One trick that helped me was to run the pedals into the Dream and run the Dream into the effects return on the amp. I have plenty of tube amps, but in this case I used a Blues Cube which is solid state and has an attenuator. It sounded really good. In effect it was bypassing the preamp in the Blues Cube and using it like a PA. I'm a bedroom musician, so I can't speak to live gigs or recording.
