Using a sansetsukon like a nunchuck is essential to learn. Learning a nunchuck should be an advantage. In fact if you have two nunchucks, you can hold them together like a three sectional staff. If you want to get closer to a nunchuck, get a Chisai-Sansetsukon, it is a short version of a three sectional staff. Great for close quarter fighting.

Three sectional staffs linked with rope or cord is quiet. Although not as strong and hitting with the chain part is an advantage. They are good for quiet practice.

good video. just ordered one for practice from your site because I don't want to break the old one my Sifu gave me ages ago! I've seen them with the overall length a lot shorter. To where fully extended the 3 section staff barely breaks 6 foot. And others where the segments are much longer and can easily extend into 7 foot +. The one's with the longer middle section, and one's with a shorter middle section are out there. But I find them to be much less common. The standard, in my experience, is just about 7 foot even with equal length segments. I don't know about other practitioners, but I find any variant besides the same-sized pole variants to impede some of my applications. Especially applications that require holding the middle pole and using the end poles individually of one another. No matter longer or shorter, it feels awkward to me personally. It's nearly impossible for me to use a shorter middle pole variant when I swing both of the end poles forward while holding the middle pole horizontal with both hands in front of me. On a normal variant it is no big deal, but I have wider shoulders and the shorter middle pole section makes that application (and the backwards swinging sister application) much more difficult and painful lol. While I had some experience with staff, spear, and nunchuk. I actually transitioned to 3 section pole from 9 section chain whip. A lot of the wraps and attacks in 9 section chain whip forms are very similar to 3 section staff moves. A really good one is doing the chain whip butt bounces with the 3 section pole. In fact all flexible weapons chain whip, meteor hammer/rope dart, 3 section pole, and even tiger hook swords linked together all basically move the same way. If you can do a butterfly kick with one of them, you can do it with all of them lol.

The screw together staff is shit. If you hit something you can bend and break the screws and nuts holding it to together. If you have to have one, try to find a precision made staff, stainless steel or titanium.

Don´t know why these videos start with spinning? Those are not the moves that you need to know to start and eventually win a fight.

We're not trying to win a fight at the start of the video? just showing how you can spin this weapon.

@@EnsoMartialArts Spinning a three sectional staff is impressive, but not practical. Too easily defended against. Because this weapon (as most) is an extension of your hands and arms, blocking and counter, throwing punches (yes you can throw devastating punches and jabs), swinging and chokes holds (chokes are used for taking away weapons and breaking limbs and killing) and transfer from one hold to another are more useful. If you do not know how to control the after effects of a spinning hit, you could be in a lot of trouble. The power on a spin is not much compared to a swing or a side punch. Get one of those punching man dummies and compare the hits. Guarantee that no one will be interested in seeing a demo of the spin first.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqRnqKyMfsLKnrQ.html The first move used is a block and counter with swing. He does one spin the whole fight. When the opponent gets the staff, he has trouble controlling the effects of the swing he tries. At 1:46 my first reaction is to block and counter (he only blocked) 1:47 he should have punched, that would have broken the hold on the staff. These are my first reactions. Although this is a choreographed movie, real fights are not that perfect. Would like to know how many takes and cuts they did.. I do get hit some times from a misplaced hit. Like I said controlling the effects of a spinning hit is crucial. It will have a strong mental effect on your opponent . Keep up the good videos, I appreciate it.
