May be it's stay the same with more ost, bgm or some more about graphics. Sometimes money didn't help when it's come to creative work. And pls stop compare 2d side scrolling games to Mighty no. 9. i want to forget it but i can't. Disappoint quite strong in that one cause high hope and hated for crapcom.

If it had the same budget as Mighty No9 it would've gotten full voice acting, more playable characters, animated cut scenes, new transformations, and bonus chapters. But the basic gameplay/graphics would've stayed the same.

We're still getting more characters and stages too, they're just coming at a later date as DLC (for bolo, rotty and Skye anyway, I think Risky might be a free update) as well as a couple new chapters I think.

RFTL I feel it more like castlevania than mageman game. And i already clear the game now. So, my thought on this Shantae is if it get the same budget Mighty No.9, it will be better than it be right now since i clear the game i feel lack in many thing. Example: Map feel like it too small. Reused the map is okay but areas to explore didn' feel satisfy, Boss fight is somehow didn't feel good.I think maybe it lack of various move, i don't know but i feel boss fight in this Shantae is too simple. Transform is fun i think it should focus on more ability usage in more situation and some forms like bat just made some obstacles in some stage become pointless too fast. If they have more budget. I want them to create more stage and mini map too cause i oftenly trend to forgot when i re-explored. And a little more complex of boss fight. More than this i count it as bonus.

Mighty No. 9 4 million dollars... shitty 3D models. Shantae had 20% of that budget, beautiful 2D animation and great level design.

Labrador420 Really leaves me wondering what went wrong. I mean the game Mighty No. 9 got more stuff right then it did wrong for sure, but not a lot more, and the communication issues between the backers and comcept go on for miles. I'm kinda hoping wayforward gets their hands on the rights to Mighty No. 9 someday, just so that they continue the series.

As soon as they add the three stat-changing costumes for Shantae and FOUR campaigns for risky boots, Rottytops, Bolo, and Sky this game will jump to an 8 to a 9. If IGN actually wanted to review the game again.

E1ite Yoshi I already explained why is not a 9 for me, you can break the game. At the end you get an item that gives you unlimited magic and consider at that time you have the dance that heal you with the cost of some magic. That means durring the endgame you can be the worst player ever but with unlimited magic and beeing able to heal yourself without any cost you cannot die

You don't even need the healing spell. Just upgrade your shield spell and you're invincible against everything . At least don't make it unlockable until you beat the game. This made the last level for me feel so anticlimatic

8/10 sounds about right. Some people might argue it deserves a 9/10, but so far, it's kinda short. They might expand the story with future DLC so who knows.

To be fair there are many good or even great Kickstarter games. Of hand I remember Shovel Knight, Shantae 1/2 Hero, FTL, Divinity:Oirignal Sin, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Undertale, Lisa, Skull Girls, Elite Dangerous, Wasteland 2 and Stasis.

This game has potential, Wayforward has potential (the game looks a bit cheap, art could be more improved but it's good enough). Platformer genre is like kind of dead but this game give a hope since latest Rayman games.

I've been obsessed with this game recently. It's fun and has the perfect mix of challenge/frustration. It really feels like an old NES game. I mean that in the best way!

eddster1987 Not really you just need to get all the keys to get unlimited magic, I think it would be better as a postgame item, as a reward for saving the day (you get it from the mayor anyway)

Yeah the tiara and the armor are both very overpowered items. I thinks those items should be part of a NewGame+ or easy mode. But hey at least you can deactivate them in the SubScreen.

I noticed this game on Vita the day it was published on PSN. I'm thinking of getting it.

Just started getting into this game today. I'm hooked. It's great

These games are so amazingly awesome it's a real shame they don't get more love....

This game is honestly really fun. My only issue with it is the mystery of why I sometimes die if I take Dryad form in Scuttle Town...

it's about 8 range from what I've played so far, as it's not quite as unique as Pirate's Curse and looking to be pretty short but still pretty damn fun.

The only real issue this game has is it's content currently. They plan on adding 3 costumes and 4 seperate playable characters with their own unique gameplay and storylines.

The Shantae games were never particularly long games (except the first which just had a lot of nothing of running around between actual stages) and fully meant to be speed runned. I've been taking my time with the game and almost beat and found everything at about 10 hours.

Harvey Hopefully it will change over time though, but if I had to go by a 10 point scale, to me 7s are still fine games with minor imperfections. If it's around the 6s then I listen to the biggest fans or my friends to see what's redeeming about it. Anyways side note!

This game looks awesome. I was looking for another Vita game so I'm glad I came across this one.

It's a great game, proud that I backed it! The soundtrack alone makes it worth playing.

My score in Shantae 1/2 genie hero is an 8/10. + Fantastic presentation, + Awesome music, + fun gamelpay , - Some backtracking.

Shantae was originally for hand-held consoles (Nintendo consoles) and basically became more "famous" becouse of the 3ds game and yet this new game is for every single console INCLUDING VITA WHICH IS A GHOST CONSOLE and NOT for the 3ds!?.. bravo

Gotta say, I think Pirate's Curse was the more solid title. Half Genie Hero feels more like the mosaic of underutilized features that the core gameplay mechanics and level design wasn't designed to take into account. That's likely a symptom of it's inception as a Kickstarter game with variable tacked on "stretch goals" and user-submissions. A lot of the game feels really "tacked on" - and many of the levels don't feel complete, or have far less hidden areas and unlockables than other levels. Mermaid Falls seems to be the most fleshed out, with areas like Hypnobaron's Castle and Cape Crustation feeling like they lack content by comparison. Definitely a great game, and well worth the purchase - but I think Shantae (and most games in general) fare better under traditional publishing models where there is a set budget and time-limit to development to help focus the design.

Asaru Chaos i used to have the white assassins creed liberation vita. but i sold it because it didnt have any games. Check my name on PSN. i have platinum in a few vita games including Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. I might buy it again in the future. the 3DS has a tonne of RPG games which i enjoy so i just use that as my handheld gaming device.

there's about 6 of them on wii u. new super Mario bros u, yoshi's wooly world, shovel knight (w/ the amiibo is co-op), donkey Kong tropical freeze, Mario 3d world, ray man legends even Mario maker is pretty good for turn taking. and trying to solve puzzles together. plus I'm gonna add Nintendoland even tho it's not a platformer just because it's often over looked, and it's the best multilayer for up to 5 players on the system. also I recommend terraria regardless of platform as it has 4 player splitscreen (altho you will need to zoom in by pausing and triggers). but it is a great time. oh and on ps4 brothers tale of two sons is great. and the top down tomb raider games (temple of osiris and the other one) it's like diablo, but a twin stick shooter with tonnes of great puzzles.

I hate when some titles release on the Vita but not on the 3DS. Despite the 2DS/3DS trampling over the Vita in terms of sales, it's hard to ignore the gap in the specs department. Heck, they made a version of this on the Wii U but not on the lowly 3DS.

Original game for Game Boy Color was pretty much a Metroidvania. The second game was too, somewhat, but it felt like it was unfinished. Since then, they focused more on platforming.

Shantae is a spark of light in the darkness that is today. Games these days is aways more of the same formulas, and the new stuff is a bunch of bullcrap for hipsters. This game brings me nostalgia and a bit of hope in the future of gaming.

That idle animation is a little much. I'm not sure if it's actually dancing or an eccentric character but it looks pretty odd when you stop and start swaying dramatically. The idle animation when you talk to people is great but the gameplay version should've balanced the two.

It's normally a contracting issue. If you want a multi-platform game, you must give it the same specifications across all platforms. Since current-gen consoles don't go above 60FPS, it's dragging the PC port down. Though I wouldn't say it's a huge issue. 60FPS is good enough and I've seen games in the past have modders remove FPS caps.

Don't be fooled by the number ratings everybody because it's what make people get turn off of the game. This game is really amazing and very fun to play

When DLC content is launched, it should be reviewed on its own merits. You can only judge a base-game on what’s in the $20 package.

my only complaint is that the boss fights are too easy. Kirby games had more engaging more difficult bosses than Shantae.
