Shankar Mahadevan is a trained Carnatic Classical artiste. He has been trained to hold and take small breaths while singing so that the requirement to breathe doesn't affect the song in any way. He does breathe in this song but those are small measured breaths which you will not be able to discern easily.

@@GOTGames In his prime he actually did it without a single inhale. That was absolutely insane. Sadly it was more than 2Decades ago. So recordings from then are not around as they are now. I tried to find the OG. But yes even this is crazy. The OG was pure insanity.

@@techforkings7907 No-one (not even great Mr Mahadevan) can do a song this long without a single inhale - it's physically impossible! He was using a breathing technique where you take small, almost unrecognizable breaths at regular intervals.. :)

He is one of those rare commercial movies singer who is trained in Carnatic & Hindustani classical singing (both very different styles of singing). You should listen to his classical concerts. His best commercial songs are Aata Hudugatavo (kannada) & Mithavaa (Hindi)

Had this guy heard Shankar Mahadevan's "Maha Prana Deepam" song, it's a 5 min BREATHLESS song. Your mind would leave for a while for a little breath.

There are two versions of this song. He sang the regular version in the show. There's a reprise version as well. Both are amazing. Also, listen to Sonu Nigam's live performance videos.

Now, since he is classically trained, he can do things that Westerns can not do. When I say classical, I mean Indian classical. It has nothing to do with rap micro breaths, but, then again, I am no musician. He is one of the most talented contemporary composers and singers in India and Bollywood. If you listen to the recorded song, there is no breath in that. And, let us be honest, you can hear him take his breaths easily, but it is magical nonetheless, since it is live.

This is my turn to shine 😜 This song came out in 1998, I think, and at the time, I read an interview with the singer. Yes, the concept of the song Breathless was to record a song without any pauses, hence the title. The studio version has him sing seemingly in one breath, but it's edited together. He himself admitted he did take breaths while recording it 😄 That said, when he does sing it live, it isn't *quite* as seamless. If you listen carefully, you can hear the very short pauses he takes in between to breathe. It's more noticeable if you are familiar with the studio version, which you should definitely listen to btw. I used to sing this song myself, and even though I'm not trained, I could perform it too. It's just a matter of some practice and good lung power, which you usually already have if you have been singing as long as I have (over two decades at this point). One more bit of trivia - the lyrics written out by hand covered four foolscap sheets. This is another thing that was mentioned in the interview.

There is one asan in yoga which can teach you how to have control on your breath. But Shankar sir is exceptionally talented

You kept reiterating how the greatest rappers can't rap at this pace & breathlessly, HOWEVER, you did not or missed the fact that he was singing through a intricately composed MELODY based on Indian/Hindustani classical RAGA & he was on point with his tones & scales & then he managed to do that at an immensely fast pace without missing a beat, but first he never missed a scale in that melodious composition... You should listen to more Shankar Mahadevan songs, especially his Live renditions, before Arijit Singh came, he was the most versatile singer & best live singer I've ever witnessed...

I'm an Indian and still amazed with his song no matter how many times l hear this song.... And the shocking part is this song has another part of it .
