Great interview. Shania's return is probably my favourite musical comeback of all time. After everything that happened to her.. after all the heartbreak. Such resilience of spirit. Beautiful woman, beautiful soul! x

this is such an amazing heart to heart conversation by 2 very public people, and I think it's very cathartic for them as well as people who hear this conversation. Surviving trauma is like navigating a battle ground, you just want to get through it to survive, and the healing is complex, deep and takes a long time. It's very brave of these 2 amazing, strong women to share this.

My mother was a musician growing up and I remember being pulled all over the place, to so many clubs and around so many people. There was little time for me be grasp a sense of identity apart from her world. Later in life what helped me was detaching from conditioning and learning to do things for myself, which was difficult to do. Mindfulness meditation, some therapy, a lot of mistakes, and eastern philosophies helped me learn to let go and embrace new identity. Simple books like "30 Days to Reduce Stress" by Harper Daniels and other mindfulness stuff were great at the start to rebeginning.

This so deeply powerful, between two phenomenally talented women who’ve been through so much and have somehow made it through as well. Which I admire, and it brings me personally a little inkling of lite inspiration. I sincerely appreciate their openness, & authenticity of bearing along with sharing. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏾😥 What Shania said, an “unfair burden to a child” I felt this as someone who was abandoned, neglected. By the woman who brought me into this world, losing my beloved biological father to a tragic overdose and ended up in foster care as a child, into my teenage tears through my early twenties. 💔❤️‍🩹💔Ultimately I was adopted, sadly loss my adopted mom, who’s passing anniversary is nearing. She’ll always be the mom I never had.😔😥😔 But I’ve often said as a former foster child/orphan it’s an unfair card or burden to simply be brought into an unasked situation. Or family who don’t want you, & be left to simply pick up the pieces to try to survive this at times cruel dark world.🙇🏽💔🙇🏽‍♀️ Thank you Drew, & Shania both for this truly.❤️‍🩹

I think my Nana went through what Shania went through kinda. My Nana was the oldest of 8. She had 7 little brothers. Her dad was a drunk. She always talked about how she had to cook at like 11 years old, and do chores outside, she had to take her baby brother everywhere with her even on dates or she couldn't go. She changed diapers etc. I always wonder if she was forced to help out basically like a babysitter. She said her dad would give her a stick and make her fight her brothers and if they refused she said he would take the stick and beat them basically. She always said she loved and missed her dad. My mind can't help but assume she was abused. She said he was mean. So I'm assuming. She was one tough cookie for sure. Strongest woman I know. She was freakishly strong. She could whoop all her brothers lmao. She was the only old lady I was actually scared of! She'd knock me out in a second! But she was also so sweet and loving to me. She raised me since my parents weren't interested in raising me. She passed of cancer in 2019 I miss her deeply. Rip Nana.

I asked the same. As much as I like her, I dislike how she now disses her parents. None of us had a perfect childhood. Early in her career she talked lovingly about her siblings and even acknowledged that even if her parents were poor they encouraged her musical abilities. She even changed her last name to her step dads last name because he adopted her & her sisters. Then took her first name from an Ojibwe word. Her step dad was Ojibwe, she is not but she leaned on that when she needed it. Now she doesn’t. Kind of sad. It’s like she changed the narrative when it no longer suited her once she got famous.

I agree. The story has changed a few times but this one of the last decade or so of her being the victim is getting tired. She had a lot more than many people had. Growing up she had while not money, parents who encouraged her dreams & musical abilities. As an adult before Mutt ran off with her bff, he helped her become a huge star and fathered her child. Plus, he put money behind her. Not everyone who enters show business is that lucky! Sure he cheated & that sucks but he cheated on the wife he had before he met Shania. Did she think that cheaters change? Especially in the music industry??
