I’ve seen the film 100+ times, so it all makes sense to me, but I am impressed by the fact that the audience, too, seems to fully appreciate how well done this is!

The film is just marvelous, and these guys did a hell of a tribute.

For those who don't know, this song first appeared in a 1933 movie called "Footlight Parade" that is very much worth seeing, especially if you're interested in the rise and development of musical comedy in Hollywood. It is a bizarre movie, and the ending compounds the bizarreness. The movie ends with this song suddenly morphing into a ghastly rah-rah rootin' tootin' shootin' tribute to the US Navy. (As a product of its time, the film exhibits casual, unthinking racism and misogyny.) An early Busby Berkeley fever dream. The whole movie sometimes seems like it's half human and half Loony Toons. Cast included Jimmy Cagney and many 1930s musical comedy stalwarts: Joan Blondell, DIck Powell, Ruby Keeler, Frank McHugh and Guy Kibee.

Wonderful so sad for the loss of Paul he was a fantastic performer, incredible wit and meticulous to detail as you can see in this film. I cannot believe we will never be able to see him live again at the theatre. God bless Paul you had me in stitches a TRUE star RIP.

Having worked alongside Paul in Theatre I will say I have never come across anyone who was simply a constant a riot of comedy . I've never laughed so much in my life as I did that 2 week stint at Edinburgh Festival Theatre . The show The Behind the scenes banter . The after show parties with Paul the cast and theatre staff . It was a bloody riot lol . I'm so Sad one of life's dearest treasures has left us so soon . He will be up there with Cilla & The Gay Mafia having a blast looking down shouting pack it up crying you snivelling bastards I'm fine up here . I'm having the time of my life all over again .
