@@TravelingTheWorld1 no very few historic buildings have been preserved, in fact, the CCP has done quite a good job destroying most of Chinese history of the last 2000 years. what is left is still a lot but if the cultural revolution hadn't happened, China would still have most of its cultural heritage today, now that would be truly awesome. It would be like India, were ever you go in India you find history and in a very well preserved condition because they took care of it generations after generations. I am not sure what took the Chinese people to suddenly hate and turn against their rich history and beautiful culture.. shameful. so for those who think China still has many preserved historic sites, think again. It only appears big because China is huge, but had it been left intact like lets say India's beautiful cities which most of them have preserved the historic core of the majority of cities and its ancient buildings have not been destroyed but they still think about modernizing just not at the cost of their heritage so they build their modern ugly buildings somewhere else were there is no ancient buildings. they respect their culture, Chinese people too at one point did, but then the communist government came and brainwashed generations of Chinese who still to this day have never tried to even remove the government.

Damn, dude, some of those places still look the same, even today. Yeah I lived in Shanghai from 2013 to 2016, and 2017 to 2019. I recognize some of those smaller buildings. That triangular building is near Jing'an Temple at 2:34 and that one at 2:25 is in the French Concession (maybe, I could be wrong, they all look the same). The skyscrapers I definitely recognize. That one at 2:08 is at Jing'an District, I think, could be Huangpu District. The Bottle Opener, the skyscraper (we all called it that because I can't remember its real name and it looks like a bottle opener, World Financial Center maybe) in the last slide, is located in Pudong District, but I thought it was built in the 2000s. Anyway, man, I miss living there. Good times 😭😭😭

I remember Shanghai in the 1980s. It was NOTHING AT ALL like it is today. Those old banks and European/Japanese/American buildings that are the hallmark of the Bund today were poor communal residences at the time with families living in the offices sharing the toilet facilities at the end of the hall which also was used for the water source for the communal kitchens. Most of the interiors were dark and poorly lighted and it looked like it had not changed since after WWII. It was just dirty filthy, but you could see many of the old signs under the dust and filth. There was no shopping or shops at the time except for the government Friendship Store (which was very nice). Restaurants were terribly poor by today's standards. Women were wearing western style dresses, but nylons and high quality cosmetics, even high quality alkaline batteries were nearly impossible to get, so you could be very popular if you gave them as gifts. Men were still wearing mostly "Chairman Mao" uniforms in either green or blue. China was a very interesting place in the 1980s and even the early 1990s. It was like the land that time forgot. The cultural revolution had died about ten years earlier and free-market was only experimental. There were two currencies: Renminbi and Foreign Exchange Currency. Chinese people and businesses could only buy foreign made products with Foreign Exchange Currency which was nearly impossible to get for normal people or private businesses (which were few). The change from then to now really is astounding. I think a lot of Chinese people today either are too young to know what it was like or they have forgotten their very humble beginnings.

dont destroy any of your historical buildings like China did or you will regret it, especially the generations after you who will be angry never having known the old ancient buildings that is common in India. To me India has the most beautiful cities in the world not because they are modern but because they are old ancient and well preserved. They might appear a little dirty in some places but the structure of the cities are in good condition the buildings are in good condition and are ancient. This is testament to the fact Indians took pride in what they built and made sure to preserve them and pass them from generations to generations.

@@dengxiaopinggaming5500 believe me it's change alot, we have more smart cities compare to 80's and India is a trillion dollar economy(we suddenly can't ignore that) .. And of course it will take more time because India adopted capitalism in mid 90's and china adopted capitalism in early 80's aur late 70's ... Still poverty was rampant in China through out 80's and 90's , yeah now it's a world economy. Which respect alot

@@vitadude5004 India is not the next China. Automation has changed things and a vast workforce is not needed for industrial activities at low cost. In my opinion India will keep growing but at a MUCH lower pace than you and many analysts expect.
