I was on MU flight from ICN-PVG-SGN on 1st of May this year, the IFE that you have shown on your video was exactly the same movie and Video contents that I had to face for my two flights on MU.

Great video, Jayden! It got a little confusing who belonged to what with the different plane and crew than the flight designation. Looks like the service was pretty good nonetheless. Although, I hate it when the crew locks the windows on the 787. That lounge was really nice. Too bad there are still so few people there.

It is the same deal with their flights to KUL. Oh just merge the 2 damn airlines together already eh? I was looking into MU for my return flight from UK to OZ in Jan 2024, and they were really cheap! Chrysanthemum tea is one of my fave, next to "metal goddess". The meal for MU looks very QF like. Hahahahaha.... love how she replied to you in English. Your Mandarin accent is not Chinese enough it seems.

I didn’t expect a FM plane until I got to the plane😂😂 Crew wearing FM uniform but all the PA were saying MU… so confusing haha. Literally like QF! But at least QF has the little tray for the main LOL!!

Great video! It’s quite interesting and surprising that China Eastern doesn’t merge/integrate Shanghai airways into MU. Considering that everything like the product and service is effectively the same!

Shanghai Airlines (FM) was much better than MU about 15ish years ago and it was actually under Star Alliance. I have to say it was the best at that time. When MU wanted to merge FM, the team insisted on keeping the FM brand, code and even cabin crew's outfit so that's how they look like today.

you should try ICN for transit and not go to the airline lounge. very nice because there are free public showers in the International Transfer "lounge" chairs are also very comfortable there.

Jayden you could have used China Airlines🇹🇼 Dynasty Flyer if you have it to access China Eastern lounges since the Taiwanese Flag carrier is Skyteam Alliance just like MU and FM. Speaking of China Eastern Skyteam lounge it seems they don't screw their Skyteam Elite Plus members, unlike DL which screws them over. Another Skyteam FFQ that you can use on Shanghai Airlines is Korean Air Skypass. Among the Chinese Big Three MU Skyteam CA Star Alliance and CZ which one of those will you fly again?

Firstly, locking down 787 windows is a major no no for me. I will avoid an airline over this. Secondly, I'm so very curious about the blurs in the bathroom, lol. I assume you were midway through getting changed and the polished chrome was giving off OF vibes.

It's kind of interesting that you mentioned Qantas and China Eastern doing codeshare when they're not in the same alliance (Qantas being OneWorld, China Eastern being SkyTeam); I thought normally alliance partners would codeshare with each other.

it's an interesting case, they do it with China Southern too. I suppose they would do it with Cathay, makes more sense geographically too & saves travellers time. But China does not allow foreign airlines to operate between HK and mainland China, that includes codesharing, but then they allow that to happen with mainland China

Cathay, Singapore, JAL, China Airlines :) In East Asia, definitely HK no.1 followed by Tokyo, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur

Jayden I have to say from the mandarin you have spoken in your video I can definitely say you speak good mandarin but is a bit obvious that mandarin is not your first language, hence why the FA thought English would be more comfortable for you to communicate. But you didn't mess up at all :)

Flights between mainland China and Australia have witnessed a swift resumption after mainland China abandoned zero-Covid in Jan this year. That’s mostly due to open sky agreement between China and Australia. Also, Qantas had a very limited presence in mainland China before Covid.

Qantas only flew to PEK and PVG prior to Covid and PEK routes were axed when Covid just started (regardless if there is Covid) so only SYD-PVG starts a few months later this time. Another reason is probably the political reason (thanks for ScoMo back then).

This lounge is in the new Satellite concourse S1. The concourse was built and open in September 2019, but due to Covid-19 it has just been served for a short time. Also, the concourse is designed to have domestic to international as well as international to international transfer facilities, but these facilities have not been served since flights has not fully recovered from the pandemic.

@@JaydenWong It sounds really inconvenient, has to take trains back and forth. The customs and border control only serves in the main Terminal now, but I believe the transfer facilities in Satellite concourse will take in service soon after international flights recovered.

Would love to see pictures of 747-200 orient thai cabin if you have.

hahaha I KNOW!!! I did it at airport check in. You can also email their foreign office. I just booked another trip with them from Harbin to Singapore. Emailed Sydney and they did it for me right away

I rlly don't like MU at all. Most of my memories w them r from Shanghai Hongqiao to Hong Kong, on their ancient A320s with no TV (this was when I was much younger keep that in mind) and they had this dumb rule that for the whole flight u couldn't use ur ipad!!! Willing to give them a second chance tho!

Carriers in Mainland China usually don’t like installing PTV on aircraft like 737 or A320 series (Cathay provides on A321 and I’m not sure whether airlines in Taiwan do so), and I think the prohibitions on electronic devices have been removed and MU actually has the best Wi-Fi service in mainland currently 😏

Having my electronic windows locked would be a bummer because that's the selling point of the dreamliner! Perhaps they thought that English would be better and reduce miscommunication so they used it with you. However, it can be due to your seatmate too and sometimes the crew got confused as to which passenger spoke what language, hahaha. On JAL, when I immediately switched from English to Japanese the crews immediately spoke Japanese to me 100% and translated my requests and their requests to my other family members 😂 I ended up shocking my seatmate and a crew cuz they didn't expect that I could speak Japanese.

What's the point of having 787s and A330 under Shanghai Airlines instead of just using them under the China Eastern brand?

could be many reasons, including for tax purposes, offering cheaper products (on China Eastern they give you proper meal trays but Shanghai don’t)

Shanghai Airlines can be understood as China Eastern Airlines, and there is no difference between the two.

So you went to a different terminal to exit the country and clear security but yet you went back to the other terminal or did I miss understand something here?! The food didn’t look overly exciting but economy never does look the best! Talking about Bonza, I am surprised they are taking on JQ with the AVV-OOL route, goes against what they said they are all about.

Yep different concourse (or terminal some would call it haha). Only because the transit facility at the building I was in wasn’t open due to low passenger number. Yep I was surprised with the announcement too. MEL-OOL! Literally every airline flies that route

dont like the idea of getting that train to then have to go back to the other part of airport you just left. what a lot of messing around. your meals looked ok (for vegan meals) haha.. but as long as they tasted good thats the main thing. My daughter has given up all meats too, but says shes not "full vegan" because she still loves her eggs and cheese

yep it was so silly. Going through the same airport next month, hopefully no more silly and unnecessary train rides haha. Haha I can easily do full vegan any day except for when I’m travelling and struggle to find the right food, and also when I forget to request it like on this flight 😂😂

well for food it could vary between flight origin. Maybe if it's the other way round (Melbourne to Shanghai) food could be bad. From Melbourne, I've had to exact same butter, salad, bread, hot meals and dessert on Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and China Airlines. This is because then airlines don't prepare food in-house most of the time. They all use third party caterer so the food is really all the same food just different presentation. This is most likely the case in economy class.

I saw a video from @noelphillips recently labelled "i did not expect this flying to china" and he was going to china and he was explaining how difficult it still is for tourist to gain entry into china, and the high chance of being impouded by immigration

to be fair he went a bit unprepared 😂 He didn’t do the declaration form until he went in/left the lounge. Going to America you need visa or esta, attestation form & lots and lots of questions too.
