Bit of a stretch. By Paul's account he never took a payday from WWE or ECW, WWE compensated ECW for the money they lost from Tommy Boy Records when they signed 2 Cold Scorpio. I think the story is a lie because I can't see the benefit to Tommy Boy Records and why they cared that much about Scorpio. Hell ECW was all about pirating music to begin with. Even at the end they might have invested in ECW but they never owned ECW until the deal.

@@geneanthony3421 Paul is lying through his teeth as he always does. Several people who work in WWF (who have no reason to lie. Cornette, Pat Patterson, Pritchard, Brisco etc) have talked about Vince openly putting ECW on the payroll. They turned up on Raw and were involved in WWF angles. WWF viewed ECW as developmental. Lawler and Cornette even turned up in ECW I agree entirely that WWE never "funded" ECW or owned it, but they defo were giving them money.

@@bigrigjoe5130 I wouldn't doubt Paul was lying and it's a silly thing to lie about anyway. WWE took some of their talent and Vince realized the value of having ECW around for their future growth. It was NXT before NXT.

Extreme Rising failed because most of the people in attendance were people who had heard of ECW once upon a time, but only the most extreme parts, none of the heart and soul. I was at original ECW Arena shows in the 90s...I was also at Extreme Reunion....these people booed Bob Artese for fuck's sake...

ECW was really just a developmental for wwe
