But at that time I didnt really have much of an idea about adulthood and the responsibilities. I LOVED ECW, but I cant fault fellas for leaving unstable financial situations for more financial stability. From a character standpoint, I do agree. Joining wcw all but set back Douglas' Franchise character. WCW wasnt gonna fully allow Flair and Douglas explore all the backstory that smarks and ecw fans would have been into.and Douglas wasnt in his athletic prime anymore.

I got a different teacher though, so I didn't get the stories and experiences first-hand like many of my classmates. Still cool though, and back then, most people found the idea of a WWF/WCW Wrestler working as a school teacher during time off from a contract, to be a completely ridiculous and unbelievable idea. Looking back, one of Vince McMahon's biggest blunders was in the treatment and handling of Troy Martin aka Dean Douglas during his return to WWF in 1995. The WWF was at an all time low in 95 and desperately needed good heel characters/ wrestlers. Troy Martin was more than the ideal candidate, but Vince saw fit to mistreat him personally as well as professionally, thus preventing such a talented individual from ever working for Vince again. Imagine if Mr. Martin had been given a better chance to shine in the WWF, to be able to use his talents to the best of his ability. How much of a success do you think he would have been had the management been supportive? How do you think his role in onscreen role in WWF should have played out?

He might not be 100% accurate with his timeline but beef with people doesn't come from nowhere. As a talent there's a certain amount of dealing with bs (co workers, the boss, writers) required to stay employed in entertainment. Triple that of a normal paying job. I could tell you people stories that you wouldn't believe about lying, backstabbing and late/unfair pay. And I'm just a journeyman talent from Jersey who lived in Hollywood for a cup of coffee. I've never been a wrestler, but i've been in music and dealt with other types of promoters before and this sounds familiar. Promoters can sometimes become the become big monsters and think PR, money and their promotion or show is worth any cost at the expense of anyone employed. Not saying it's 100% true, but any kind of promoter can and have been able to become monstrous. In the past, I've had promoters turn on me because I was debating risking health, safty and my family's finances. I'm talking about smaller promoters too, so I can only imagine how millionaire and billionaire entertainment promoters are treating people as disposable or impractical concerns. They can be sociopathic and psychopathic at times when it comes to their company which is their baby.

Every wrestler of that era states you could take a nightly $200 draw (advance) to help out with expenses. If Shane couldnt make his mortgage, but worked 28 days a month....that's $5600 in draws for that month he could've taken. Was he not accepting those cause every other wrestler states they took em just to make sure they got paid something. As for the back issue, he has been on point on every single interview about what happenned & stayed consistent.

A 100 YARDS!!!! and nobody would help him???? that is hard to believe. vince was like that though many a wrestler would be injured and wrestled because they knew vince would screw them over if they didn't wrestle regardless of the seriousness of the medical injury. why do you think so many guys got addicted to pain killers and stuff. vince really doesn't care about wrestlers.....owen hart dies in the ring and the show still goes on... nuff said.
