Shanann Watts Psychological Analysis

By the end of this video, I will have:
1) Explained exactly how I determined that Shanann’s behavior was sufficiently Maladaptive to warrant a full-length analysis, why it constituted a pattern of behavior rather than Isolated incidents, why I don’t believe I have in my analysis succumbed to Confirmation bias, and why the behavior was unlikely to be the result of normal human responses to Extraordinary circumstances. (MICE model).
2) Given my assessment of the probability that each prominent diagnosis would be diagnosed by a professional conducting a thorough, clinical assessment.
3) Identified the diagnosis that I believe would have been the most productive
4) Explained why I think other diagnoses, while they may appear valid on paper, would not have been the most productive

lol i mean to even suggest that Chris is in some way not 100% responsible, is egregious. Evaluating Shannan is fine, but irrelevant to who is guilty and by what percentage. I mean come on, give me a break, there isnt even a 0.0000001% chance NOR any evidence that Shannan might have done what Chris said

I think Chris Watts is 100% responsible for murdering all three. But, I could tell there was obviously something wrong with her and watching all those videos she posted made me cringe. I thought she had munchhausen by proxy. Those poor kids. I also think Nicole Kessinger had “issues” herself. All 3 adults were f*cked up.

Anyhow, she’s older now, like almost 60 and she just completely burned herself out. I honestly don’t know where she is or what she’s doing. It’s so much work to be with a person like that. There is absolutely NO excuse for killing another human being but I see videos of Chris Watts talking and he is like the complete and polar opposite of what Shanann was. Shanann was a typical Histrionic. Very jealous of Jamies kids and the attention they got from grandparents. Im sure she did flirt, alot and dress provocatively on her Thrive getways. Always tons of makeup too. She was very aware of her appearance claiming "im a hot mess, dont mind me". Not a statement needed. She was very shallow in her Thrive schpiels using one or two words only to explain products. "Super excited, amazing" but with little emotion while saying these things repeatedly. And she made a big deal of how close she was with her friends. Facebook give notice of birthdays and because she got lots of messages, it doesn't mean those people adore you, but she thought so. One "friend"in a documentary thought Chris Miller was her husband! And Nicole Atkinson and her were not as besty friends as they appeared. These "close friends " were more aquaintances through her MLMs. Flying off the handle as seen in Nutgate, one great example of her exaggerated emotions. I would definitely place SW in the category of Hystionic with a ton of magical thinking. Life was going down hill fast for her and she wasnt even in tune with the disaster that lay ahead. Murder or not.

The littlest one was screaming her head off. Bella, was saying she didn't want to go. Neither one of the little girls wanted to open a gift. Even with Cee Cee screaming, Shanann continued to take video. So bizarre to me that she would take video of that! She made them go into the front room of the house. Bella was near tears. She was told to open her gift. She was quite unhappy and whining. Cee Cee had been bawling. They didn't seem happy with the water bottles or slippers they got. It made me thing something was going on in that house. I have never seen children so unhappy on Christmas. Why? What happened when the camera was not on? Other videos, it seemed like she told the little girls to act a certain way and say things she told them to. Like when she announced her pregnancy. She had the little girls say, "Yay!" It seemed so forced - like they were acting for the camera. When Chris came in and she told him she was pregnant he seemed to be acting. He said, "That's awesome". It seemed SO FAKE!!

She did NOT deserve her fate of course BUT she must have been a pain to be married to. What husband wants his wife to put his whole life put on social media? What husband wants his wife to sign up to a MLM and payments on a Lotus and pretend it’s “a job”. What husband wants his wife to spend them into their SECOND bankruptcy ffs?! What husband wants to see his wife’s closet packed with expensive designer shoes that she never wears (she lived in the same old pair of sandals every day). What husband wants a wife who insists on having a third child when they couldn’t even afford to keep the first two? What husband wants a wife who videos her husband hearing the news that she is pregnant and puts that video on fb? (She made him repeat that scene several times, by the way, until he performed it to her satisfaction.). How abnormal is THAT? What husband wants a wife who makes him do all the housework and childcare after he has already done a day’s work? What husband wants a wife who is a hypochondriac and has munchausens by proxy and runs up huge medical bills? What husband wants a wife who packs her kids off to expensive private daily child care so she is free to spend all her time on fb? What husband wants a wife who forced him to propose marriage on video (and paid a professional photographer to film it). because proposing privately wasn’t good enough for her? What husband wants a wife who makes him give up his career in motors, which he loved, to work on an oil storage unit? An important facet of mental health diagnostics is determining wether behaviors stem from external factors or internal factors. In this case, it is far more reasonable to conclude these behaviors were at the very least largely influenced by the training she received from the MLM, as well as by the socio-cultural context in general. It is far less reasonable to conclude this is necessarily evidence of internal pathology. However, I do think there is evidence Shanann’s personality was more susceptible to MLM influences than a control. This video is partly about identifying and studying that.

Some people say live social media is the "norm," and maybe that's true for you. But how hard is it to ask your family how they feel about being livestreamed to the world before you turn on the camera? It's easy to see that their girls were being raised that they cannot expect any privacy no matter where they were, and what's more, they were taught they had no power to create their own personal boundaries, even when their mother was being cruel to them -- and their father went along with it. The whole family's lives were one big social media show that SW directed, and nobody had a choice but to deal with it or face negative consequences. Breaks my heart. I like this video. If you take a deep dive and go back over his ENTIRE life you will find a very clear picture of a man on the high functioning spectrum. Social awkwardness, shy, quiet, highly intelligent, obsessive tendencies, lack of GENUINE emotional attachment, lack of empathy, poor communication skills, etc. The FBI stated several times that Chris Watts DID NOT fit any of their normal profiles, so no, he is not a psychopath, sociopath or narcissist. He doesn’t fit ANY of those. I have been screaming this since the case started, and most ppl called me crazy. Then little by little as Chris just didn’t fit the narrative some were laying out…….I did have MANY who finally came to my corner. In fact, the family has felt for a couple or so years now that Chris has Asperger Syndrome. The rest of your analysis on Shannan Watts is SPOT ON! Yeah none of those things you mentioned point to any mental health disorder like ASD. Social awkwardness is not clinically relevant, shyness is not clinically relevant, quietness is not clinically relevant, obsessive tendencies-I don't know what you mean by that, lack of genuine emotional attachment-again I don't think that actually means anything, lack of empathy-I don't think there's any evidence of substantive empathy impairment, and poor communication skills-I don't even know where you got that from. There was a claim made by his sister about his behavior in early childhood that pointed specifically in the direction of ASD (restricted range of interests, extreme difficulty socializing about anything not directly related to the primary fixation of interest), but wore off and frankly isn't enough to even suggest ASD formally-not without much more information. People WAYYYY overestimate their ability to pick out ASD in the wild. People think it's this fairly common, general trait that's easy to identify in the rough. It isn't . It's a very distinct cluster of behavioral patterns. 90% of the traits laypeople attribute to ASD are not ASD. Most of the traits turn out to be introversion, poor social conditioning in childhood (NOT necessarily evidence of a disorder), and masculinity.

I closely watched him alone, with friends, with co workers, and especially with his family. I listened to every single interview that pertained to Chris. AS is not as complicated and rare as you seem to think. In fact, some researchers feel that it’s possible our brains (especially males) are starting to slowly evolve into more and more AS (spectrum) traits. High functioning autism is actually a wider net than you seem to understand. A person who has AS isn’t necessarily going to stick out like a sore thumb. I may have watered down the AS traits that I see, but watered down or described out more professionally……it doesn’t change the fact that CW most definitely has “some” AS traits. I’ve already been down this road HARD, and studied CW alongside professionals that I work with in this field. Though of course, I’m not 100% diagnosing him. What I am saying is that the traits I see most definitely are enough for him to get a proper professional evaluation. I stand strong that Chris is not a psychopath, sociopath or narcissist (possibly a bit inward, but nothing outward) If I would have come across you about 4 yrs ago I’d be up for a full out debate…….but I have no desire to return to Watts Island. The first couple of minutes of this video mischaracterizes why people suspected Chris Watts. The problem with his behavior wasn't that he seemed to be hiding something. Rather, it was that he showed zero concern for the people that he claimed to be missing. It was stark obvious from his body language and behavior that he didn't give a crap at all about his wife and kid's being gone (dead). That is the point. It's not about "hiding something", though it was also partially that as well. In fact, Watts doesn't even come across in the aftemath videos as someone who is possibly in a state of shock or trauma. There was absolutely nothing even remotely indicative of trauma in his demeanour. He just seemed like a guy who was happy and relieved but trying not to show it. It's not always a bad thing. Just something I noticed people do when needing to have attention. CWa ex girlfriend before Shannon did an interview awhile back. She said if Shanann wasn't told by people around her how good she looked SW would cut them out of CWs life. CW hugged a friends wife in greeting once. SW forbid CW from talking to his friend or friends wife. Extremely insecure needing to be the center.

She contributed to that only source of income being Chris. The girls were in daycare all day, she could have done Thrive on the side and worked a regular 9 to 5, even part time. Thrive was her 6th or 7th attempt MLM business making and each one had failed. In fact..my parents used to do Amway, which is one of the MLM companies Shanann was in before Thrive. My parents lost everything attempting to get their business off the ground. She chose over and over again to try to get MLMs to work for her when they take more money from you than they put in your wallet. I've seen that first hand with my own parents. On top of the failed MLMs and her not wanting to work a regular job, she constantly traveled. She portrayed herself a certain way online as far as her financial status that did not reflect reality. They couldn't afford the house. They couldn't afford her car she drove, they were in staggering amounts of debt that ranged from the medical bills and credit card debt. She had around 37,000 worth of unused MLM products in their basement collecting dust. She insisted on Bella and Cece attending a daycare that cost around 550$ per week..over 25,000$ per year. Just on daycare. Cece was not preschool age yet..there was less expensive options. I'm not saying she deserved any of this, but her spending and portraying an affluent lifestyle while in staggering amounts of debt was part of the huge problems going on in that house. You can't spend like that and live like that without a plan B, especially when they already filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and it was almost 500,000$ worth of debt. She desperately needed help..her spending habits were out of control. She wouldn't have been in such a difficult position without Chris, had she learned better spending habits, downsizing home, downsizing daycare costs, etc. You can't have a spending addiction and being mostly dependent on a spouse while in serious amounts of debt. It should NOT have ended in tragedy, but she was financially abusing him and any type of scenario like this, it almost always ends in divorce.

I’m wondering what you think of Shanann and her having Munchausen/Munchausen by proxy? I’d love to have your take on it. She was CONSTANTLY subjecting both her girls and herself to different physicians for a large variety of health issues because she would doctor shop if the girls weren’t diagnosed with what she thought was their problem. She even said openly she would take the girls doctor to doctor until she got the diagnosis she wants. She also subjected the girls to unnecessary ER visits, as well as unnecessary thyroid blood tests in what she suggested was an attempt to figure out why the girls had such thin hair. Also, in the autopsy Shanann had not one of the conditions she claimed to have had. No lupus, endometriosis, gestational diabetes, none of it. As far as her not having NPD, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of her not being grandiose. She asserted her grandiosity over Chris and Chris alone because she could. She knew he would take it with no backlash from him. She demeaned him and insulted his intelligence publicly. She wouldn’t allow him to manage his own money because she thought he was too stupid and she was better but in reality it was to keep it a secret. She wouldn’t let him see his family because they could never do anything right, she was safer, smarter, and a better parent than any of them. She was wholly self serving and that in itself makes her way of thinking grandiose. In addition to that, her MLM affiliations appear to show a degree of grandiosity too. Many of the women “under” her within the company are simply not comparable in physical appearance and/or socioeconomic status, at least on its surface. For example, Nichole Adkinson, the friend that alerted police. MLMs historically target women in vulnerable situations. Struggling single mothers, young college students, single women, women unhappy in their career…people of that nature. In order to target someone one sees as vulnerable, there has to be a level of grandiosity there. Shanann targeted women that wanted to look and live like her. Shanann was not a good person at all. I’m not going to give the blanket disclaimer about blaming anyone other than Chris here either. For 3.5 years anyone emotionally invested in this case has wanted to know why, and Shanann is the why. It’s not her fault but she is solely the reason he did what he did. They had deep rooted marital problems and he hated her because she was who she was and he was who he was. Then the idiot thought he was in love after 8 weeks and snapped because he hated living in his marriage. My personal opinion is that he killed the girls because they walked in on him. Unfortunately, he’s a liar and/or only has the capacity to tell people what he thinks they want to hear versus the truth.

I’m not sure if any of those conditions would have shown up in an autopsy. Furthermore, clinicians often misdiagnose. A lot of the stuff you’re mentioning about grandiosity is better explained by the socio-cultural context than by intrinsic pathology. For the same reason, we don’t diagnose tons of celebrities with NPD, despite the fact that so many meet the clinical criteria. Her antagonism towards Chris was factored in.

If a ‘friend’ lived in a modest home, as that is what many of us buy in order to live within our means, she would comment negatively to and about that person. It’s clear she believed she was entitled to buy the largest newest home/mansion, within ‘reason.’ She used embezzled Dirty South funds to buy her first mansion and then fled out of state to buy her second mansion, which she couldn’t afford so only chris’ name was listed on the deed! It was obvious that shannon was obsessed with appearances by all accounts. She even performed a makeup tutorial for the world to see how she drew on her question-mark-shaped eyebrows. So not sure why this dood couldn’t figure that one out. Shannon’s life was one big theatrical show. She also spent thousands on brandname and MLM clothing and shoes for herself. Spent a lot on stuffing Chris’ and girls’ huge closets with her cutesy T-shirts and everything else a person could possibly wear. Shannon’s health claims baffled me. I’m very familiar with fibromyalgia and she did not ACT as though she had FMD but at times she SPOKE like she had FMD. My guess is Shannon memorized a real patient’s script and spoke those words in order to make people believe her story to sell thrive and garner sympathy and attention. There is no way that thrive eradicated her FMD. There is no cure for FMD. Part of the issue is that persons with FMD are actually very sick behind closed doors and very inactive due to the disease, but the few times we go out we put on a show that we are normal-looking. Because behind the scenes it is difficult for us to perform self-care, let alone get out of bed to toilet or take a shower! I personally don’t think it was possible for her to be as active as she was and to be diagnosed with FMD. It is a crippling disease and a lot of patients cannot work, let alone maintain a pristine mansion and run after two/three little babies! You should really see the unkempt state of my humble ranch house right now! :-( I’m less familiar with lupus but know it is deadly and affects the organs. Patients have lots of tests, followup appointments, medications, failing organs, etc. Shannon never spoke of any of these aspects of these debilitating and complex disorders, and thrive is not a cure for lupus! I had never heard of a parent just arbitrarily handing out Benadryl to their children on the regular in efforts to get them to sleep. That sounds like dangerous and terrible parenting. We cannot know what medical problems any of these people actually suffered from and what they were diagnosed with. That is why the fact there was no trial is such a miscarriage of justice because there are so many unanswered questions, NK and anyone else involved are not investigated even a little bit, all confidential files on the minor children are permanently sealed, and shannon’s health records are permanently sealed! We will never know what tests were ran on the girls and for what reason, test results, and anything else. I hope one day soon reopening the watts case is warranted and the actual truth of this mysterious case is revealed! NK is involved to some extent, and her father should be charged as well with obstruction of justice.

This case both fascinates and horrifies me because I, too, believe I have histrionic personality disorder that has become more manageable as I have aged. I am very happily married now, but it is my FOURTH marriage. Any of the other three marriages could have ended like the Watts marriage, and I feel blessed beyond measure that I never quite pushed any husband that far.

@Vicksons_gone_coastal "The truth and reality" is CW didn't "snap" that Sociopath by his own admission multiple times for the legal record stated, he premeditated her death. There is no evidence at all she suffocated and abused him or their babies. Your opinion and perception are *not* FACTS. What a crock of crap. That whole thing was started years ago by CW twisted parents to help get him a 35c which never happened. Stop blaming the *victim* Chris Watts premeditated his 3 babies' deaths, too, and also carried them out. They did nothing to him except loved, adored and trusted him. Their existence, didn't fit in his plan to have a new life with another woman. CW was happy in his marriage until, he met his raunchy 2nd fiddle mistress, NK. Again, by his own admittance for the legal record. NK was the catalyst, and CW was/is the quadruble murderer. The Watts should have "stepped up" and got their only son the help he needed from a very young age when he stated, he knew he was different from EVERYONE else around him and he would also, lock himself up in their bathroom for hours at a time constantly growing up BEGGING GOD to forgive him of the *sins he committed* What sins???.. CW would never tell his own mother what they were & she was "complacent" and did *nothing* at all to find out what all Chris committed repeatedly, that he had to beg forgiveness from God. His dad was "complacent" and didn't even bother to ask him at all. He was way too busy spending the family money on co~caine and doing who knows what else. "The truth and reality" is, Shanann *didn't* cause her own murder. It's a proven scientific fact, The human brain is fully developed and formed by the age of 25. Proving, CW was already a sociopathic evil monster with a mask plastered on his face way *BEFORE* he even met Shanann. Nothing she ever did caused him to do what he did. Nothing. That 500k cash in a suitcase in nc to build her house is dodgy. She worked at dirty South Selly car parts on commission and before that sold mobile phones so I don't think she could earn 500k a year as her family stated i have a friend who is a dr and doesn't earn that a year . She wasn't a nurse either she worked for children's hospital answering the phones and it was from home and just went in every other week. She used a disability badge which makes me angry because she was not disabled. She enrolled in nursing school got the grant then left shortly after . Her whole life was a lie so sad . She woke up every morning and lied from that moment selling crap and fake lifestyle to people who wanted the dream but knowing it was never going to happen but sw did. I could write a book about MLMs. The only people who make it are those who were there to start it . They don't care about the products they just care about the sales . People have this idea that because sw said she was 80k was earning that but in fact thats how much her team made for le.vel and they got a percentage which is pathetic. The lexus isn't free either. Le.vel pay 800 a month towards the car but if you don't reach your rank the next month you lose the 800 and have to pay the lease garage all of the amount. Also when you get paid it doesn't include taxes . The lifestyle getaways are not all free . The hotel and food yes . Flights are not . They sell merchandise for you to buy and you buy them to look like you can afford them. Business trips for le.vel are not paid for they are classed as part of the job . Thats why cw didn't go on all of them because they couldn't afford to both go . Sw went on 2 le.vel business trips a month.

44:56 - That's actually a common misconception on my part. Diabetes is basically an HVAC thermostat that doesn't work. You turn it on heat and it stays on heat until you realize it's 90 degrees inside, so you turn it onto cool. Then a few hours later, you realize it's 55 degrees inside so you flip it back to heat. The medication lowers blood sugar, sugary foods/carbs raise blood sugar. Diabetes means you have to manually control the levels with those tools. You can't set it to auto-regulate. So I guess technically, what I said in the video is correct, but the idea behind it was false. Because most people think that diabetes means your blood sugar levels are too low without medication. It's actually usually the opposite. Needing extra sugar is usually a result of overmedicating. Diabetes untreated = super high blood sugar all the time. Insulin absorbs sugar in the blood stream. That's all probably an oversimplification but it's a lot closer.

My opinion is that CW wasn’t very experienced with the opposite sex. When he got together with SW, he was punching well above his waist. “Look at me. I’m capable of bagging a looker”. She liked him because when she wanted him to jump, his response was “how high”. I’m sure his earning capabilities were a major attraction for SW too. He was tied to his life through debt and fear of the unknown. SW stepped up her controlling behaviour of CW when he started to lose weight. She couldn’t control other women showing him interest. Most married men stray because they want something that they aren’t getting at home. Tenderness and real affection. He was comfortable lying to SW and NK because let’s face it, his home life was a living lie. False, awkward smiles for Facebook. Forced family activities. Everything they did together felt unnatural. As for SW and her supposed health issues. I have no time for sympathy seekers. I haven’t been able to hug my Lupus suffering friend for nearly 3 years due to Covid. Hearing SW spew her lies about the condition really boils my piss.

We know for sure that he murdered his children. The idea of Shanann murdering the kids was implanted in his mind by the CBI agent Tammy to get him to confess something! Chris at the time immediately denied Shanann did anything until the very end when he knew he was caught. You should know better than this. Additionally, he confessed to the murders even about Bella asking him “are you going to do the same thing to me you did to Cece”. The law enforcement, DA, etc., investigated this on top of Chris’s full second confession in prison March 2019. Yet Chris committed the ultimate abuse by methodically murdering his children and pregnant wife than dumped his own kids in oil tanks like pieces of trash devaluing their lives! Why did he murder the kids? Let’s forget Shanann for a second! It’s not like he just murdered his “narcissistic” wife because he snapped! He brutally murdered his children and all this after several months of having an affair! He even stated this in the second prison interview that if he had never met NK his family would still be alive! What’s wrong with you people?

Have you done research on this case ? Because these a lot that you’ve left out. If you followed it you’d know that the girls weren’t killed in the house.. only SW was. Both or at least 1 of the girls was still alive that morning. It took for the detective’s to rewatch the cctv video & see that atleast one was seen that morning walking up to him and him bend down to pick her up & put her in his truck. Chris later admitted to this when they had a second interview in jail. He later said that’s why he panicked in the body cam footage at the neighbor Nate’s house. He admitted to taking both the girls to the oil site and suffocating them before putting them in the oil rigs. And even his later admissions could be false. The only thing that I consider fact is what was proven with cctv. For you to think SW, a pregnant mother would kill her daughter’s before Chris is bizarre. He had more of an incentive to kill them than she did. There was even a second person seen on the cctv but that was never confirmed by police. I say this because I do believe he had help, but not by SW. To think that you’d clinically diagnose her & not a man who’s decision was to annihilate his entire family to be with another women is concerning. I don’t want to come off rude when I say this, but I think you should diagnose yourself Before others. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion / beliefs but if your studying phycology and diagnosing ppl I don’t think it’s responsible to give a diagnosis on people let alone victims. I am not saying to exclude victims because they’re victims. I’m saying before you diagnose someone be damn sure your not wrong.

First, the CCTV shows a super tiny, grainy shadow, not a girl. It definitely appears to be what you say, but it’s very easy to be fooled by shitty, pixelated, tiny footage. I mean the shadow is like 60 pixels big. It’s very possible it’s just a trick of the light. I’ve listened to both the interrogation confession and the prison confession all the way through with no interruptions at least 6 different times each. I’ve determined that Chris shows strong signs of deception when he contradicts the first confession during the prison confession. In the first confession during the interrogation, he only shows signs of authenticity.

We live in a sad sad world when a husband can murder his wife, his 3 and 5 year olds but its the wife who is 'analysed'. Chris had a choice. He could have left and lived with his mistress. Instead he chose to strangle his wife, parade her dead body infront of his two babies (in the car ) and then suffocate his 3 year old daughter infront of his 5 yr old so she would knew Daddy was going to kill her too....Yet Shannon is the one who is" analysed" (judged and criticised)? Seriously ? Sad sad world. I have one belief ( taught by my Nana). Treat others as you want to be treated. Would you be happy for your family to read about your percieved personality faults if you and your children were murdered by your partner? Unbelievably cruel.
