I really enjoyed this interview. As someone who isn't a scientist or economist by any stretch of the imagination, I still drew the conclusion based on common sense that everything we do uses resources (which, admittedly, makes me a bit apathetic about sustainability in general since being alive at all kills the planet). However, as an ordinary person, I think of "the rich" and "the poor" as individuals. I never really thought about rich countries encouraging or denouncing use of certain resources for financial gain at the expense of poor countries until watching this. As always, great content.

I watched an interview with Verdana a few years ago ... the interview made such a strong impression specifically because she was with the United Nations. I was amazed that someone with the clear depth of integrity of Verdana, could be within the UN. I thought "well , maybe they are not as bad as I thought". She was a strong ambassador for the UN - intentionally or otherwise. Never could she be habouring a second agenda. Now your interview (really did not expect this on your channel by the wayl) shows that now she has really understood what is really going on ... and of course her intergrity does not allow her to continue to support it. Wow, I would love to meet her ... she has so much advice to offer the world.

She’s an extremely insightful woman. I like the fact that she has first hand experience with the organizations that were once tasked with solving problems like hunger and pollution...ect. She’s witnessed first hand how these organizations have become corrupted and then bought by the very people that create world problems. We need more people like her to have a much larger voice in our world. 👋 Timothy and everyone who commented….I wanted to post a a couple of comments in your discussion thread that I posted previously within other threads associated with this video…just for informational purposes and to see what you may think…here they are… Let’s face it, cows are, technically, an INVASIVE SPECIES and, like all nonnative species, have led to the destruction of eco systems and countless species all around the world. Why? Because of mono animal husbandry & horticultural practices. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE dairy cows and their “products”. I eat them EVERY DAY. Cheese, yogurt and milk. I can’t seem to live without them. However, I don’t eat cattle. I prefer bison 🦬. As a recovering 20+ year vegetarian, I’ve learned so much. Buffalo/Bison have been an important part of my recovery and journey back to health. I owe a lot to this species and I am eternally grateful for their existence. The good folks at Epic and others like us, know what I’m talking about but many of you may not. The ecosystem in the USA is dependent on these animals. Bison help create thriving ecosystems that support a wide diversity of plants, animals and insects. Cows do NOT (remember, they are technically an invasive species)... Restoring Bison restores/repairs ecosystem. Plus, their meat is healthier for you (leaner, more omegas), takes less energy to cook…if all fast food chains switched to bison, we would save on energy consumption. Plus, you get more meat per animal without the need for antibiotics/feed lots and other infrastructure like slaughter houses, barns, etc. They are a wild animal that you can’t corral and ship like other forms of docile livestock. Most ranchers render them in the field which is more humane. Besides having more meat, they have more “leather” which is more durable than cattle leather. Unlike cows, they also produce fiber. Their undercoat is cashmere quality and sells for a premium. Switching to bison is a no brainer. We should limit the number of invasive species in our diets and promote the healthier, more humane option of native species. As a recovering vegetarian, I see the error of my old ways of thinking. By denying and rejecting life forms, I was enabling their extinction. I’ve now learned that I need ALL life to survive. I require bison for my survival along with countless other species. If we all demand and require Bison, it will survive and thrive along with us and all the other lifeforms that depend upon it. Bison isn’t the only native species we can live in abundant harmony with…just think about it…please. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who reads this and reconsiders their diet and what it means to the future health of the planet. I agree with you that greed is out of control. It’s a systemic problem. It lives within everyone. Tyrannical regimes are made up of flawed individuals. Unfortunately, once a large enough group of people create an organization, the organization itself becomes difficult to control at an individual level. A biophysicist friend of mine, Dr. John Holland, taught a great course about this and how we all have to try to awaken ourselves to the danger of giving power over to large entities/companies/governments. He called it Alive, but not Human. Organizations, especially if threatened, begin acting like any living organism and start taking measures to stay alive, even in spite of people’s best efforts within the organization, to keep it from happening. The individuals end up losing control over the Frankenstein they created. Even organizations whose goal was good or benign, can find themselves battling this dynamic. It’s so interesting to contemplate and then to look around and see where this dynamic is happening. Alive, but not Human. To get back to the Bison…I love the fact that we can help save what remains by restoring apex animals and it’s healthier for everyone and everything if we do. I love the fact that the Bison generate ecosystem. Even their feet help plant seeds vs. other hard, hoofed species whose feet tear up the land. Many states have realized the benefits of bison and are now putting aside acreage for bison to free range, so it’s very hopeful, and I’m grateful to everyone who has been educating themselves on this matter and taking action. The more I learn about bison, how grand and beautiful their part in the web of life…makes me grateful and full of wonder and especially hope…and boy do I appreciate the feeling of hope, especially in these difficult times. Did you know that camels do a similar thing? They can help keep the desert at bay, but unfortunately, there are not enough wild roaming camels either. 😢 So, for me, I’ve come to see that we can fight the good fight in many ways. By changing one thing in our diet, we can help restore and protect what remains and not give up/give in to the current way of doing business, especially if it is harmful. Each individual can take part in a large change and it doesn’t require us to be militant or lose our cool. We can, together, calmly take action and work for real change and fight all those organizations that have become Alive, but not Human. In theory she's right.. in practice, I can give you an example of the country I'm born. Switzerland is the only direct democracy worldwide. Even though in theory the people rule over the state here.. whenever there's a smart vote/ initiative in benefit for working class people.. there's just a massive campaign from said lobbies and usually people just get brainwashed. In the end it stays the same and money rules.. at least as for now.

One of the most intelligent assessments I’ve heard. Her discussion on cattle speaks directly to the situation I’ve been witnessing in my neighborhood (southeast Pennsylvania Susquehanna river hills). Farms that once had milk cows grazing now keep them imprisoned 24/7 in barns. The only grass-grazing milk cows I’ve seen around here are on Amish farms. Many believe that the Amish are more cruel to animals, because of the puppy mill myth (as if they are the only ones who raise dogs for profit), and because they still use horses for local transportation and working the fields. Not-so-subtle divide-and-conquer propaganda. As for what is referred to as GMO agriculture, and an organic farmer friend more practically labels as chemical no-till farming, this has taken hold here in this community of small farms in the last five years. I’m guessing it’s been more prevalent in the big factory farms in Midwestern US for a lot longer. This method requires spraying poisons to kill wild plant and insect life onto crop lands at least three times every growing season - once after harvest, once at first frost, and once immediately before planting. We first became curious about this walking around our neighborhood , a borough with schools, parks, and homes that border on farm fields. We noticed that wild plants/weeds along the borders of the local park and some school property were disfigured and appeared bleached, and that in the spring when green lushness is the rule everywhere, those same fields remained bare. Anearby park that leased part of its land to a farmer who used this method required the farmer to post the dates it was going to be spraying, and the chemicals being used. We checked the names and found online that the main ingredients were an agriculturally marketed version of roundup; warnings that the chemicals could “drift” 100’ - 300’ from the edges of where it was being laid down. The paths that hikers and dog-walkers used were well within that. There is no law that says that farmers must warn their neighbors when they are going to be spraying. Thank you for presenting the big picture.

Random but I’m from the same area! I always wanted to move anywhere else but here but now that all this is happening I’m grateful to live here where there are so many local farms, if the grocery stores end up having nothing there’s so many local farms we will survive, so many people in other states don’t have that.

Shes brought up a lot of points I've been thinking about lately. Especially when it comes to agriculture. I really don't understand why we grow acres of broccoli to ship to China and none of it stays local and if you want to buy food or product that is local its marked up by 5 to 10 dollars. It makes no sense to me why we've given up on self-sufficiency

@@c00lsteve I think she pointed out that they feed cows with unprocessed foods, only grass they it, no antibiotics, no hormones, no gmo. Most of India is still rural, a lot of farmers there use traditional methods for farming, it's a different meet and milk quality if they don't use pesticides and herbicides, antibiotics and hormones. So I believe her when she says that those Cows don't "stink". She probably visits farms regularly, so she can distinguish. Those Cow's have more natural metabolism, so they don't "stink". I think Metan never comes alone from digestive system, there are other gases to.

Humans Smell should not be used to test for any gas. (Other animal such as dogs can be trained to detect specific odours) I'm sure people dont care if US cows smell a bit (except people living close but that was not what she was talking about). She is clearly a very rational woman. But her education on the sciences is lacking. I have no problem with this, my problem is with people who think everything she (or anyone) says must be true.

We have to STOP seeing people as "not me", "not in my backyard" and instead look at each other as "my brother/sister", "how can I help"

Vandana's comments are spot on. Some years back I spent a number of years inside a large political party. It astounded me that every time I went to a party or to someone's home for dinner my friends wanted to discuss politics. When I kept emploring people to join the party that they supported and become active and involved because that is how you change society, the answer I always got back was "I'm too busy" the reason we are in this mess is APATHY! Those of us that live in Democracy's need to usecthat democratic process effectively or it will disappear.

No one wants to face the fact that we are tettering on the edge of a communism take over. Everyone is too busy pointing fingers. But the biggest problem are corrupt politicians, and voter fraud. So we have lost the ability to vote in real patriots. And when it comes down to it, unless we were able to fire every political person, from local to the top, nothing will change because the swamp is too big, and they would just destroy, or Billy the few good ones. When it comes to the climate issue, people are too gullible, and go for which ever is easiest, or sound the best. Plus our kids have been getting brainwashed for decades. They live in a 'it's all about me' mindset. They're all so self entitled.

Thank you. I've rarely seen the global impact of corporate greed expressed better. I am not in anyway a communist or even a leftist but government must have a role in keeping corporate interests in check. Teddy Roosevelt was right. It's a shame that my own government and the mainstream media care more about corporations than the people that they are supposed to serve.
