I left Shamshuipo for the States 30+ years ago. Nothing have fundamentally changed. I love the district has evolved but retain its original charm:)

I love how you explore and discover the beauty in the locals like Paul. I think he is sitting on a gold mine with all them vinyls. He can sell them on ebay pretty easily. Anyway you are showing peoples stories which locals themselves don't know about and areas locals even forgot about. I like how you educate us on the history of each area. My family who still lives there probably wouldn't know the history of Sham Shui Po, Wan Chai etc... Unfortunately I've left HK when I was 8 months old. I was raised as a Scot and then now as an Aussie. These traditions are fading with every generation.

I was born and lived in Hong Kong for a number of years before moving abroad so it’s really lovely to see different sights of Hong Kong and a variety of local food which bring back my childhood memories. Your videos are brilliant, interesting and informative. I also love learning about the background history. Could tell you have done quite a lot of research on your topics. Another fantastic video! I love how you showcase not only the amazing city but the local characters within it. It's fascinating and entertaining. "Moving to Mars is bullshit." 🤣 (I totally agree.) But, oh man, you reminded me of a "therapeutic massage" I got while I was in HK. I cried the entire time! It was traumatic... but what you went through looked worse.

I think that may have been our favourite line of the episode too, Paul is certainly a great character and a lovely guy! Yes, the gua sha massage was certainly tough, as you'll know from your own "therapeautic massage" experience... just hope I didn't show the pain too much on my face hehehe!

Welcome to my hometown. I grew up here during my childhood and glad they still kept some of its primitive history. Paul Au can still kept his music if he wants to convert them into CDs because Laser Discs took up huge among of space.

Good job buddy!! Really impressed with how you went deep into the local (grassroot) places unlike other KZreadrs who would only show the fancy nancy side of HK! Sham Shui Po is such an overlooked/forgotten hood and it's hidden with lots of gems especially when it comes to local food!! As long as tourists stick with those restaurants/joints you recommended, it should be just fine.... 'cause I did hear there are some rough spots in the area with drug addicts and weirdos... not exactly suitable for kid-friendly hangouts!

As you say, there are plenty of top-notch local gems when it comes to food, and there's just so much here in general for visitors to enjoy! Having said that, indeed, with it being among the city's most deprived areas, there are certain parts that are less ideal for tourists.

Gua sha was so painful bro. But once I had a bad flu one gua sha session heals it. It was like a miracle!! I believe in it just I don’t want to do it again lol

Personally I like fire cupping (it's pain free, just a bit of suction feeling) - it does work to alleviate back and shoulder pain and drives away the very humid element/feeling in my body (Hong Kong is damn humid May - October).

Woaaah that flea market! I'd love to go just there for a whole day and get lost. And although I currently eat on a plant based diet and Eggs and Meat don't catch me that much anymore, that egg sandwich there and your description almost made shiver hahaha. Well, outstanding camera, audio, cut and design work as usual, though if there would be anything that I HAD to criticize, I'd be that the A-roll of Paul talking was maybe a bit dark for my taste (face). So I'd give this just a 99,8%. Also, since the japan-guide videos I wondered whether you design the maps at the beginning of the videos with GIS or a photo editing software? Thanks for the content as always and stay safe Sam and cameraperson!

Hi Juliana thanks for watching and great question! The gua sha was a great experience. It really does hurt though, so be prepared for some level of (satisfying) discomfort if you decide to go for it. I felt reinvigorated after it, but I didn't have any ailments at the time, so it was hard to determine whether it would heal anything.
