@Maw 3615054 not all of them are religious, only some, others are atheists even. None the less the group decided to respect their religious members and left the competiton, such is the way of true acceptance.

I agree! Shalva were the runner up to win the competition for representing Israel in the Eurovision this year but since the finale requires performing on friday evening as well and rehearsing on saturday it meant a clash for some of the members of Shalva who happens to be religious. The eurovision committee refused to flaxen the rule in their case so eventually they gave it up/ I was devastated because I really love their music, their sound is soft, pure and every time I listen to them I melt down in tears that encourage me to face my own suffering and problems in my life. I am so happy that even so they were performing in the Eurovision after all cause I am sure they mean a gift for everyone who get the chance to listen to them.

they were actually a strong candidate for representing israel. unfortunately they were conflicted about having to do rehearsals during the sabbath, which is against religious law, so the organizers offered them to give a show during the semi finals.

The Israeli government petitioned Eurovision to allow Shalva band to not have to attend the Sabbath rehersals and were refused. The band pulled out of their own free will. I work with the band director's wife, and they couldn't have been more thrilled with how far they got and the amount of awareness for people with disabilities that they have generated.

I still can't get over this. I cried during the song, and then I cried with Malta

@@lmsap27 Don't take it personal, but there was nothing close to a "page turner" in Lisbon's Eurovision. It was weaker than the 2017 and 2019 editions. That does not mean that it was a bad show.

@@yaniva.7626 opinions.. It was considered the best by the organization.. You have to agree there was a change on the stage.. How the singers were incentivated to concentrate the attention on to them and their presence in stage.. The public was not distracted by a giant led screen.. Look at the Swedish and Romania staging..wow.. There were major stars from the Portuguese singing world invited.. There was music of all kinds and not only mainstream copy cats.. The flag parade.. Different.... And more participative presenters.. Like a gala.. For me there was a change in the declining path of the show... Israel show is the result.. Better and better.. 🤗🤗🤗🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱

@@Vaikida Shalva participate in the show that choose kobi (rising star) and they got a ticket to the finale but they realized they have to practice on Shabbat if they will win rising star so they quit the competition because some of the band members are religious

Arnon Dembo And I liked how there was not a single word about the band members being disabled. Instead he said we love them not only because they make us look differently at the challenges and not only because they inspire us, but because they make damn good music. That’s a way of saying to them - we don’t see a disabled person, we see you as equal. I also liked how Asi walked on stage and gave the knuckles to the different band members.

Shalva Band is THE unexpected of them ALL. I felt like you Conor, I cried first time, and second.... As closed my eyes (equipment to blind), her voice, the song, all together won first place! I'm happy under a huge umbrella of diversity , especially with Netta's winning last year , we got another unique song, that widened our spectrum 😍

I was lucky enough to be in the audience for this performance by Shalva and there was not a dry eye in the house, they were amazing and what Eurovision is all about.

I was at the Eurovision village at that time and people were excited so much about their performance and there wasn't one who didn't applauded them

There are moments from eurovision competitions that you will always remember, this is one of them. for me , this is the most exciting moment of all time.

They entered and were the most likely to win - but they dropped before the end of the competition because some of the band members are religious and could not do rehearsals on Saturday if they were to represent Israel.
