Fyi, turning up the amplifiers gain knobs to "turn it up full blast" ... they don't work like that. The amplifier can output full power regardless where the knob is positioned. Those are input attenuators ... for proper gain staging. Not for output level. They're for input level.

I used an XLI1500 bridged for each speaker. I was running them off of an Integra DHC 80.3 pre/pro. Those speakers never sounded better.

i have the CV SL 15''s running on a Carver PM 1.5 with a Klipsch 12 inch sub powered by an Onkyo to a PC with a Soundblaster card. i know what you mean about being scared, it is loud, very very loud. i have the Klipsch sub turned to 3/4 on the volume and its almost too much, the bass shakes the wifes bathtub water 3 rooms away. lol you got me thinking about getting that Schitt pre-amp, though. have been mulling it over for a few months now. edit: forgot the Carver is running through a BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer, as well

I was wanting a tube amp but didn't know what to get and when someone mentioned schiit I looked into it and from all the positive reviews I decided to go for it.. What attracted me most was the multiple input and output options never mind the fact you can change the tubes is pretty cool too but I highly recomend getting the lokius or the Loki mini along with it for tone controls. Ps carvers are awesome.

@@sledstr have you experimented much with the tubes? ive always wondered what type of tubes/manufacturers do better with certain types of music. is that even a thing? i listen to anything and everything. have you found that certain tubes go better with certain genres of music? or do you just adjust to your liking with the EQ? PS you really getting interested in that HH amp too, if its good enough for EVH, its good enough for me. lol

I bought the amp with solid state tubes as they don't blow.. I bought some tubes for $500 elsewhere which are a little more grungy for that more distorted sound I'm looking for with lots of base but it's really hard to tell without trying more tubes. I can't see myself spending thousands trying all the different tubes. A budy was telling me guys will spend upwards of $1500 on a set and that's getting a little out of hand but I'd like to get together with someone who has some tubes just to try. Yes that v800 amp is a beast.. I had one years ago powering a set of jbls like I have now and just amazing power.. 250watts is almost comparable to the crown 1000 watt.

How many decimals can it hit ? You should try tri-amping your system with a 3-way electronic active cross-over and see how better and louder it will get specially with those amplifiers your running I promise you that

The jbl cf-150 was from the late 80's to 90's and were very similar to cerwin Vegas. I bought a pair in 95 just when everyone was getting into subwoofers and there were no more large speakers to be found in any stores but 1. I was powering them with the H&h v800 at the time and were heart stoping loud. I've been on a mission to replace that chest pounding bass they had by purchasing the xls-215 and amp after amp just not getting that same thump. I finally found a pair of those jbl's online and tracked down another H&h amp. Was not too happy when the shipping company delivered them completely trashed cabinets.. Honestly they were not built very well with cheap chip board so was kind of cool to have the local cabinet shop build me these new cabinets.. Work of art. The rebuilt them to look exactly like the originals but with solid wood with no stupid stapled trim pieces. With all the cost of the speakers and shipping + rebuilding them I got close to 3k into them lol.. Shipping company screwed me and didn't even offer me the cost of shipping back $800. In 95 I paid $1600 for brand new pair. But anyway the sound that comes out of them with very little power just about blows those xls out of the water.

They sound great providing you throw alot of power into them.. Way overpriced in my opinion at $4k Canadian but they sure beat small satellites and a sub which is why I went with them. I prefer a big pounding woofer than a rumbling sub as I like to call fake bass.

Not enough power because the amps arnt even getting the correct voltage to the inputs. Home audio is only .775 of a volt and p.a gear needs atleast 2 volts going into the input to produce the max signal to get the amps wattage out to the speakers. But youre right!!!! Once he corrects this with a switchable amp or a p.a mixer, he going to see he doent need them 3500's

I see that you still haven’t fully pumped up your speakers, you’ve already turned up the preamp and the bass all the way, and the volume to maximum, but the speakers still don’t play their maximum. With a competent approach, neither the timbre will be needed nor will it be necessary to turn it all the way. These speakers are tight and they need a large margin of gain, so until there is 5 times more than what is written for them and the signal for the amplifier is sufficient, there will be no sense. It’s not normal that you have to turn everything all the way, this indicates that the gain is clearly not enough...
