Shakespears Sister - I Don't Care
Музыка
walking through the rooms in my head
i came across your image
you looked at me with that sweet smile and said
something they won't let me repeat
we hurt the ones we love the most
it's a subtle form of compliment
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
mark the spot you hate with an x
then shoot your bow and arrow
do your worst get it all off your chest
i'll hold my breath and swallow
we hurt the ones we love the most
it's a subtle form of discipline
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
i don't care if you act like a queen
i don't care if you take it out on me
i've got 9 lives and i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
[out of the alley, i spoke came victoria]
[queen victoria sitting shocked upon the rocking horse]
[of a wave said to the laureate]
[this minx a course as sharp as any lynx]
[and blacker deeper than the drinks]
[as any hottentot without remorse]
[for the lynx said she and the drinks you can see]
[are hot as any hottentot and not the goods for me]
[hot as any hottentot and not the goods for me]
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
i don't care if you act like a queen
i don't care if you take it out on me
i've got 9 lives and i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care

I came here after hearing this song on an old cassette mix that my mother had. I though that this song was popular but it seems that is another forgotten 90s song. That makes it special. I will add this song to my library.

Special
I was 7 when this album came out, but never heard of Shakespear's Sister until today. Obviously my parents are failures.
they blasted this at my day care center in 1992 when I was 8, I am 32 years old now. Not sure why this in my head tonight
Arrived here via a Kip Thorne discussion on physics. Here goes.... I heard him say a word which sounded like "Hottentots" (turns out it was) which in turn triggered a memory of a song featuring a similar sounding word. Having no idea what a "Hottentot" was, I decided to google the word. Then after reading all about them and the "Bantu" on Wikipedia, I searched for Shakespear's Sister, feeling sure it was one of their songs that I could vaguely remember, though I could recall neither the name of the song nor even the tune. There, on Wikipedia, I read all about the duo's history (very interesting) but seeing the song titles didn't help, so I entered the words "Shakespear's Sister" and "Hottentot" into Google and VOILA!!!! - there it was! Great song, that I'd long since forgotten about, and quite an interesting journey here.
I never forgot about this song. I loved it 18 years ago & I still think it kicks ass! That was a great summer, 1992. Whatever happened to Shakespear's Sister? Are they still around or did they break up?

They are still around! They released new material last year :)
Brilliant all the same, there's a fine line between insanity and genius...look at Kate Bush, Bjork, Tori Amos, fruitloops one and all (in the nicest possible way)
@SpankRamen2 Yeah I agree! I loved this song cuz at the time I really DIDNT CARE!!!
@endileon1 Im sure it's Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit
@SpankRamen2 Un42nately the duo featured N this vid & on most of their charting singes parted ways (NONamicably) N the early 90s.... Fahey still records & performs under the "...Sister" moniker as she did prior 2 linking up w/Detroit (N order 2 distance herself from her FABU pop-dance 80s roots N Bananarama). The "band's" website announced a 2011 LP back N June BUT I have yet 2 C any official release date ;~( '
sounds like phoebe buffay😂❤️
STUPID! I thought so in later '92... however many decades ago this was and I still think so hearing it as I lie on my deathbed googling any fragment I remember from youth just to renew any faint memories - thanks to technology I didn't think would ever be at my finger tips
Will anyone, please, explain the meaning of the lyrics starting at 3:29 ? I understand every word but it sounds nonsensical to me.

It’s a quote. From what I can’t remember, must look it up again!
I didn't understand the bit in the song at Queen Victoria. Suffice to say that Hottentot is a racist word coined by early dutch settlers in south Africa

It's an homage to the 1922 Edith Sitwell poem Hornpipe.
@SpankRamen2 Alive and kicking (but without Marcela Detroit)
The version by Dickens’ Daughter was far better
