I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

If you prefer to use hex nut wrenches, I'd recommend angled/offset ones, like these:

I have a Shakespeare GX235 reel. I am new to fishing hoping to refresh my reel. I was following your GX230 guide until the bail holder part as I got overwhelmed nearly losing the plastic washer. Using some silicone spray and bearing oil as its what I have on hand. Thanks!

Thanks for watching! As long as you didn't lose anything, you can do it. Just take your time. Maybe come back fresh the next day, or watch the video section first to get an overall view before attempting to emulate it on your reel. Most any grease or oil is better than none, but.... check the video description for what I recommend. Spread the word about the channel!

Do you or don't you add a few drops of oil to an anti- reverse clutch? Getting conflicting answers seems to be consensus 😩

Thanks for watching! What are the conflicting answers you're getting and the reasoning behind them?

@@TSGReelService spoke with Shimano in California they say light oil except for Calcutta reels, Penn says light oil . Accurate says light oil. But watching some folks on line that service reels they say, bone dry as it's a friction device. Me the reels I service always get 321 or corrosion X ,for saltwater protection, but was wondering if the oil decreased longevity, hence my quandary

@@ddube1407 You, better than most, know that repair guys all do things a little differently. You should continue doing what you do if it makes sense to you and you haven't had any reported issues doing it that way. Or follow the manufacturers recommendation for their specific reels. Unlikely oil decreases longevity, but rather the opposite. I agree regarding the friction device argument, but only so far... there's also mechanics involved in that "stopping" action, not just the "surface friction" between the pins and sleeve. The following is is a general statement, not an absolute.... I DON'T always oil. If I touch most anything other than the Shimano Super Stoppers, I oil if I clean them.... and don't if I don't clean. The Super Stoppers get noisy sometimes (usually because of use), and there I will add the slightest drop of oil (even though Shimano says to run them dry) to quiet them down a little.... after cleaning it, of course.
