I will be 49 this year and l can still remember singing acapella to Shai with a few of my friends in high school. We were all in choir and would have “little impromptu jam sessions” before class. The girls in school loved it. A few of them even recorded us with their camcorder lol. Ahh the good ol days when R&B was a real influence.

So sweet! I wish I would've been able to say the same. Thought my marriage would last as long as my parent's, 43 years and counting. My husband and I only stayed married 5 yrs. He became an abusive narcissist when I was pregnant with our first and only child back in late 2015/early 2016 and it went downhill from there. We played this song and Together Forever by Shai at our wedding. Never knew I'd be a single mom and divorced ever since a little girl thinking of my life when I grew up. But happy for couples who can stay together through thick and thin forever.

This is one of their most slept on songs too. I miss feel good music about love like this! 30 years later it still sounds fresh and current.

*This video was one of many during the late 80's early 90's that made me want to go to college as a little kid. I remember the positive images of Black college life on TV. Of course 'The Cosby Show' and 'A Different World' will always be two of the first things that comes to mind for most but I also remember a few music videos such as TLC's 'Baby, Baby, Baby' and Lords of the Underground's video 'Here come the Lords' that portrayed the Black college experience. I always wondered what it would have been like to be a Black college student at an HBCU during the late 80's, early 90's. It seemed like it was a good time!*

So true. Watching the composition and imagery throughout the video reminded me of Ta'Nehisi Coates' book, Between The World and Me, in which he akins Harvard University to an African American/Black Mecca that exemplified the myriad beauties inherent within our people and the beauty within such a concentrated population of people from all stretches of the diaspora.

That Black college vibe was so positive. The sad part is that it was more popular with Black people than White. Mainstream culture wanted more of the gangsta vibe, the violence, the negativity...and they got it. I look at the song "Waterfalls" by TLC as the end of an era & a warning. Look how quickly things derailed by the early 00's. A few major artists today are bringing back the intellect and resurrecting the music, but the vibe of the late 80's and early 90's is unmatched.

It was so Beautiful to just show LOVE toward our sisters BECAUSE WE MEN THEN WERE "NOT" SCARD TOO... The "TRUST" and "LOVE" was "TRULY" there to say the least... I had the Time of my LIFE in College and these Songs Playing on the Airways (RADIO) and in The Air was "ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL"... It's SAD and BREAKS my HEART that many of us "BLACKS/ HEBREWS" did "NOT" LEARN anything from the Period... THIS IS "TRUE" BEAUTIFUL, RESPECTFUL, HONORING, COMMITTED, LOVING MUSIC... IT LEADS TO "MARRIAGE" AND "CHILDREN"... "FAMILY"... JUST AS "THE MOST HIGH" WANTED IT TO BE... "I LOVE YOU SISTERS"... Mr. Dirk Cristle/ C.E.O./ The D.C. Network, Inc.

This song reminds me of my dearly departed sister friend Niecey!!! She used to rewind this tape back to back. I remember her dragging me to Showtime at the Apollo to see them perform. They did this song and she melted right there on the spot. Sweet memories of one of my best friends. We lost her in 2002 she was only 31 with so much more ahead. Just listening and reminiscing!!! Rest In Peace Niecey I’m blowing smoke with you on my mind. Much love from Harlem NYC ❤️❤️❤️

@@KM-ql4eb thank you. That was a piece of my heart. We met in the 2nd grade and we stayed friends until her son’s father felt that he had the right to take her from us on April 13, 2002. I will never forget my ex husband showing up to my job and telling me that Niecey was gone. She was so smart so beautiful and would give you the shoes off her feet. I take solace in the fact that her son (my godson) grew up to be such a great man.
