Shah Allah Ditta Caves Islamabad | Ancient Buddha caves & Buddhist Stupa in Islamabad Pakistan. Hindu sikh history of pakistan. Indian Heritage on Historic & Legendary Alexander Road. Embark on an extraordinary journey through time as we delve into the captivating world of the 2500-year-old Buddha/Buddhist caves in Islamabad, Pakistan. These awe-inspiring caverns hold within them the echoes of a bygone era, where Gautam Buddha himself is believed to have traversed their hallowed chambers.
Similar to the ancient caves of Cappadocia in Turkey, these archaeological treasures showcase the rich heritage of the region. With roots dating back thousands of years, these caves have witnessed the ebb and flow of civilizations, leaving behind a tapestry of historical significance.
Imagine standing amidst the very caves that Emperor Ashoka, the great ruler of ancient India, visited 2000 years ago. These sacred sites have not only borne witness to the footsteps of legendary figures but also reveal remnants of an ancient stupa, discovered after a 2 km hike at Ban Faqeeran (pool of saints).
Nestled within this remarkable complex lies the Mosque of Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi (Ghazni), a testament to the harmonious coexistence of different faiths. The village of Shah Allah Dita, with its 700-year-old history, offers a glimpse into the vibrant past of this region. In its heyday, this village served as a melting pot of cultures, where Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Muslim, and Buddhist communities lived in perfect harmony.
Tragically, the partition of 1947 led to the exodus of Hindus and Sikhs from Shah Allah Dita, leaving behind an indelible mark on the fabric of the village. However, the stories of unity and cultural diversity still resonate within these ancient walls. The stones themselves bear witness to a history spanning an incredible five million years. Adjacent to the caves, an ancient water pond awaits, offering a tranquil oasis amidst the mystique.
Alongside the ancient caves there is a very historic road (pathway) that's more than 3000 years old and people used to travel on it from Gandhara to Jehlum, China and Europe. Now a days its the shortest way from Islamabad to Haripur and Khanpur dam in Kpk Pakistan.
Nature's marvels continue to weave their magic through the mountains, as a freshwater spring trickles through the rugged terrain, bestowing life upon these ancient landscapes. Even the legendary conqueror, Alexander the Great, and his army, once traversed these very paths, forging alliances with Raja Ambhi of Taxila Gandhara, 1800 years ago.
To further immerse yourself in the richness of this site, visit the revered Imam Bari Sarkar, an esteemed figure whose presence has graced these sacred grounds. And don't miss the chance to explore Sadhu Ka Baagh, an old garden that once belonged to a Hindu Sadhu, steeped in legends of spiritual significance.
Additionally, within the captivating realm of Islamabad's ancient Buddha caves, we unveil yet another fascinating relic: a 600-year-old well that stands as a testament to the engineering marvels of the Mughal era. This remarkable structure, attributed to either Mughal Emperor Akbar or Sher Shah Suri, serves as a tangible link to the past, showcasing the ingenuity and craftsmanship of those who came before us.
