Oh right, Phalanx was an innocent colossus.

I know this is real late, but noticing the eye to body ratio Phalanx probably has the smallest eyes. and it's a possibility that his eyesight may have been very poor hence why he seems so peaceful. for all we know. he couldn't even see you. when you think about it that way. it's even sadder because to Phalanx he'd have no idea why he's dying. his heart. or whatever they have as their anatomy. was giving out. his eyesight growing weaker then it might have already been. the light fading. his many wings losing strength. the vast open lands of the forbidden land along with the world outside it. even if the theory as to why he can't go outside of his flight pattern is true. is so close yet so far away. as the light fades around him. and he let out one last cry. the last proof of it's own existence. Echoed across the land. yet only heard by two. A loyal horse. And a lone Wanderer who at this point has begun to lose his sanity. It puts a even sadder tone on Phalanx's story if you think about it in that way.

Of all the Colossus deaths, Phalanx, to me, is the saddest. When you inspect the fight, this monster of a creature- One bigger than even Malus, you find that this massive creature never goes to attack you even ONCE. So you go and attack this magnificent animal, then kill it, while it never lifted a wing to defend itself. Wander kills it- This peaceful, beautiful creature. All for one meager Human who is already DEAD. Seriously, if that doesn't scream "HEARTLESS FUCKING VILLAIN", then I don't know what does.

PHWGaming I never saw Wander as a villain really. I think he was blinded by love (or whatever it was he felt for Mono), and thought he was doing a good thing. And by this point in the game, I think his sanity was already leaving him, so he wouldn't have stopped to think, "Hey, maybe thing ain't the best idea."

Well. if you think about it, Phalanx is part of Dormin.

SOTC fans , a theory . Have you ever noticed when clicking select the map pops up in a distinct way . As if it's zooming from the ground up , almost as if Dormin is watching every move you make . when you die and the eerie music starts almost as if Dormin is upset ?

While Phalanx is alive, it will always fly ahead without stop. So devs decided to make his fins permanently damaging (because in a real battle they will hit you on a huge speed).

This is like fighting a dead beached whale

The Fact Wonder Is Tripping Over The Little Edge Lines On His Wings When He Is Dead, And Not Trip Over Them When Phalanx Is In The Air, Just Shows Wander Has Problems

Holy crap! I have never heard it scream like that! This is one of the saddest deaths I’ve seen but that scream just makes it so much worse! Really interesting video!

isn't it crazy that the developers intended for the colossi to 2 TIMES AS BIG as they were in the full game! pretty insane to me would have cause so much lag though! XD

I've tried and failed many times to climb onto phalanx's nose horn while it's flying, has anyone been able to do this? The view from there would be sweet

@pocketmarrow Oh, hmmm - I didn't know that... that's strange 'cause if I just moon jump up onto it without shooting it's air bags I get tossed off after a while. Can you stay there until it goes back into the sand after you have Agro launched onto it? I'll have to try some things and work out exactly what the rules are.

I....feel really bad after watching this...I don't think I'll be slaying anymore colossi

@otakughost It let's you climb on him for a while then kicks you off. It doesn't matter which parts I think, the wings or the body, you still get thrown off. In the game Phalanx flies down into the sand so you can't stay on it, but here I can, so it kicks Wander off. Same when I ride it under the sand or way up in the sky, you can hang on for a while then get thrown to your death!

Nomad, did you know there's a way to stand in Phalanx face in flight during battle? With no hacking and some skill you can manage to jump to the place in front of it's helmet-like forehead (I've done it). Did I discover that? I've never seen a video about something like this...

Phalanx falling right in front of you... pretty impressive. Actually much more impressive fall than in the game

@otakughost Yeah, the game thinks you are trying to walk on Phalanx when it is floating around in the sky (i.e. when it's air bags are full). You are only permitted to climb on Phalanx after it's air bags are deflated - so it throws you off. The same happens with Dirge if you try to climb on it when it's moving around in the sand as you can only climb it after it has crashed into a wall.

@Nomad0168 Huh? But you can use Agro to launch yourself onto Phalanx and hang on when he's emerging from the sand for the second time (/first time he emerges after the initial cutscene) without deflating the sacks.

i wonder if phalanx attack you caus i tried to see but does not attack you?

Oh, right. I remember trying to grab onto Dirge without having him crash into a wall and I'd always get hurt. Something's off though. Why only the head and the front wings, and not the rest of the body? You are able to kill him without touching those parts (assuming you could get on top of him without deflating his air bags), so why are they the only parts that project you away. Any idea Nomad?

So you get projected backwards if you touch it's nose or it's front wings? Quite strange.

This is exactly why you DO NOT give a giant monster thing a resurrection potion kids. It will lie there, half dead half alive. Kill it again, and again. Do it forever if you want. I don't care really, its your life anyway.

Nomad is knows as "The butcher of Shadow of the colossus". He hacks the game to kingdom come, which was considered "Butchering the game" by Ueda (The developer.) In short, Nomad hax.

Why you used a mod to see Phalanx dead? You can do this in the game going back to his arena '-'.

@FFVIIBertoldiBrasil I always wondered about that third eye... like it has one eye on one side and two on the other. I thought once if you take out one eye so it only has two something might happen (of course I should have tested it in flight - not lying dead on the ground xD).

@Nomad0168 Yep, you can. The only thing you have to be careful of when trying to jump on when he's emerging is that small area around him that will knock Agro down if you get too close. You have to ride as far as you can and then at the last second jump. If you time it right to land on the fur and hang on you can ride him right on up into the sky. His sacks will still be glowing.

I kinda felt sad everytime i killed a colossus... was i the only one? btw this is the best game created imo. still trying to get my hands on ICO tho... never played it but always wanted to ;___;

para os fans brasileiros que estão aqui, estou traduzindo um outro comentario vcs ja perceberão o quão pequenos são os olhos do phalanx com a propoção do seu corpo, então, é triste pensa que quando o wander começa a bater no phalanx, o phalanx nem sabe porque estar sentindo dor, ou porque morreu, é provavel que o phalanx nem viu o wander m momento algum enquanto ele estava na arena, isso pode ser um dos motivos de phalanx ser tão pacifico, ele nem ver o wander durante a batalha, e mesmo se visse, não poderia fazer nada contra o wander, alem de entrar na areia, porque como ele ia ataca vc, eu so imagino ele se jogando em vc....mas é triste saber que o Phalanx é um dos colossos mais indefesos do jogo

Team Ico paid so much attention to detail that, even from a different perspective, the Colossus' fall retained its magic. Hell, I thought Phalanx was gonna land on top of Wander!

Although, really, it is genuinely interesting 🤔 it has a lot of weird physics exploits. Like, when you touch the bottom of its wing, you fly off like you would if it was flying in the air still. Huh.
