SHABBAT SHALOM part 2 || RULES ON SABBATH || ORTHODOX JEWISH LIFE || FRUM IT UP

SHABBAT SHALOM part 2: RULES ON SABBATH (39 melachot of Shabbat)
In this 5 part SHABBAT SHALOM serie all about sabbath celebration This video is here to help you better understand the SABBATH CELEBRATION and in this part 2 we will focus on the RULES ON SABBATH (39 melachot of Shabbat)
In this second part of this 5 part serie on sabbath celebration you will discover ( or review) WHAT are the RULES on SABBATH, what is considered WORK ON SHABBAT? As well as can we work on SABBATH? what is considered work on shabbat as well as what are the 39 melachot of Shabbat
As such we will review the 39 melachot or creative work that were done to build the mishkan or tabernacle including work from the field, work to make curtains, leather coverings as well as build with the beams and to do the final work in the mishkan like extinguishing fire to have charcoal, lighting or igniting fire to complete the work of dyeing and metal shaping.
With all these guidelines you might think that this day cannot be enjoyable, in fact all this structures are there to make us aware how our daily activities in the week, that we take for granted, is a sign of our mastery over the world. But when we stop and celebrate sabbath with these guidelines we realize that is a way to emulate G.od and recognizing him as our King.
Without theses RULES, we would do exactly the same days as our weekly activities and we would miss this amazing opportunity through shabbat to connect with the others, with us and ultimately G.od.
Whether you are Jewish, observant ( shomer shabbbat) or not, have coworkers that are Jewish or just our of curiosity to better understand the world around you, this part 2 of a 5 part serie on Sabbath Celebration this video will help you better understand the shabbat celebration in Judaism and what is really shabbat?
Sabbath celebration in Judaism is at it's core
Not only is keeping the Sabbath or keeping shabbat is the 4th of the 10 Commandments but it is a essential point that is repeated again and again in the Torah ( Jewish Bible)
The sabbath /shabbat celebration in 2020 in essence is not different than the way we celebrated shabbat in the 19th centuries minus the quarantine/ social distancing situation! We still enjoy the shabbat food, the same rules on sabbath and guidelines, we do the same prayers as well as great everyone with a heartfelt SHABBAT SHALOM which means peace on your shabbat. Because when you day of Sabbath is peaceful you cannot truly connect with its essence and your true inner self: your better self, your true holy potential that is expressed through the celebration for your sabbath!
Shabbat is the time of rest not in a a way that we should sleep all day on Shabbat to have more energy on the rest of the days! On the contrary, the sabbath/shabbat is there for us to renew our spiritual energy, our connection with G.d and re-align our true direction in this world, to make sure that our life has a purpose, is meaningful and that we pass to our children , our family our friends and people that we meet this joy of disconnecting from the material things and connect with the ultimate truth and source of Energy: G.od!
If you have more questions on this part 1 what is shabbat please stay tune for the next instalments of this 5 part series on The Sabbath/shabbat as we will answer more questions as well as much much more!
Stay safe, healthy and blessed
Sara Malka

    THE CORRECT ENUMERATION OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - (*Re-introducing the commandment that has been deleted from being taught) Deut 5:6 - 22 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 1- Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. 2 - Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 3 - Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. 4* - And REMEMBER THAT THOU WAS A SERVANT IN THE LAND OF EGYPT, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. 5 - Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 6 - Thou shalt not kill. 7 - Neither shalt thou commit adultery. 8 - Neither shalt thou steal. 9 - Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. 10 - Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's. 22These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: AND HE ADDED NO MORE. = Compare this listing to the Exodus listing and see the 'commandment' I'm showing that is ADDED to make the ten. And he wrote them on two tales of stone and gave them unto me.

    ANY DAY OF THE WEEK CAN BE THE SABBATH DAY - AND THERE IS NO OTHER REQUIREMENT OTHER THAN "REST" ORDAINED FOR THAT DAY "Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:" These commandments are to be upheld by the INDIVIDUAL not the nation as a whole. "Do not lie" is for the individual to uphold. "Honor thy father and thy mother" is for an individual to uphold not the nation to create an 'Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother Day 'celebrations. This commandment only says you can work for six days in a row but you must rest on the 7th following the sixth. NOTHING MORE. Doesn't say there is any specific day of the week you must choose to start your work week. If an individual chooses to start his work week on Monday then Sunday becomes THAT person's Sabbath day of rest (and nothing more than rest is required of him). Same if a person chooses his work week to start on Sunday then Saturday is his Sabbath day. Individuals can come together for their convenience to agree to start their work week on any specific day and have their Sabbaths coincide..... but that doesn't give any individual or group authority to decide that work week starting point for others.

    Shabbat Shalom! (Apologies for posting while you are possibly observing Shabbat, here it has been dark for a few hours already). I do have a question regarding whether something is permissible on Shabbat from an Orthodox perspective. Where I live, we are having our national election. Elections are always on Saturday and voting is mandatory for those with the right to vote, although it's possible to vote early if one cannot vote on the day. Would it be correct to say that even if one could walk to a poling place and thus not need to drive, voting in an election is not a permissible activity on Shabbat as this would involve writing? Todah rabah in advance!

  • @frumitup

    @frumitup

    Hi John you are correct that writing on Shabbat is not permissible as well as doing activities that are usually done on the weekday so in this case it seems that a vote by anticipation would be the proper way to go for someone who observes Shabbat I hope that answers your question and if you have more please let me know!

  • @frumitup

    @frumitup

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Prince of darkness, Interesting question: Let me start by clarifying: A mitzvah in Hebrew means a commandment i.e. one of the 613 commandments found in the Torah. Keeping Shabbat is part of the 10 cardinal commandments in Judaism given by G.od to the Jews. A melacha of Shabbat is in regards to the 39 melacha/work done in the mishkan or Temple and the prohibition to do these melachot/ work only applies for Shabbat and most of the Jewish Holidays. Therefore whether you do or not these 39 melacha on a weekday has no bearing on what you can do or not on Shabbat/ Jewish Holiday and has no impact on the mitzvah/ commandment of Shabbat. I hope it helps! Pleased let me know if you have more questions!

    Hi there, non Jew here. I’ve been on a spiritual journey over the last two years trying to refine my faith. I have a question in regards to the sabbath rules. What happens if you need to go to the hospital but it’s the sabbath? Like if you’re having a stroke or heart attack? You’re making others work…ambulance drivers, hospital workers, etc…and you’re using electricity when you’re there presumably. So are you breaking the sabbath by seeking medical care? Also, in regards to not using electricity, do you not use AC or heating during the sabbath? What if you have small children? Extreme heat or cold can often be fatal to little ones. Thanks you!

  • @frumitup

    @frumitup

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi! I LOVE YOUR QUESTIONS: they make me super happy 😃 ! To save a life you can infringe on any Shabbat laws: the life of someone is more important than anything! As per the AC/Heating: as long as the appliance you are using was started before Shabbat and you are not charging it’s setting during Shabbat you are great! So putting the heating or The AC or the hot plate before Shabbat and using it on Shabbat is fine in general; there are some Exceptions or course but overall that’s the main rule! I hope It helps! Please let me know if you have questions or need any help; I am here for you !

    My question may sound like a joke, but it really isn't. If someone lived in the woods and their house caught on fire ons Shabbat would they put it out? I guess I'm asking if exception are made for certain situations.

    Hi Savina! Goood question! If they have everything in their house and would become homeless without any resources most commentators will say yes! It would be a yes for sure if there are people in the house!! Like you said it is a case by case situation and it has many variables like, will another house will catch on fire because of this house being on fire? Will the forest will catch on fire and risk to kill other people or cause more damages,… in general the answer it yes we try to stop the fire!

    Hi Krystal❤️thank you so much for your questions! To answer your questions would need for me to go in more details but here are the answers in a nutshell: On Shabbatwe cannot use hot water so no bath or shower of the body with hot water but in some specific instances certain part of the body can be washed with cold water If you do not bleed when you brush your teeth, you can brush your teeth and it’s better to use liquid toothpaste but you cannot rinse your toothbrush until you use it next time You cannot use hair brush or combs on Shabbat so no brushing of the hair with these tools but you could brush your hair with your fingers or baby brush As per cream it is a no go unless it would be prescribed by a doctor or needed by a baby and it should be applied with shinooiy/ a different way then during the week. There are many more nuances to your questions but in general these are the answers for Orthodox Jews I hope it helps and please let me know if you need more help or have more questions: I am here for you!! Stay safe and blessed my sweet Crystal!

    I was LDS (Mormon) for 10 years. No restrictions on electricity. We could drive, but not buy gas. We couldn't buy anything (like order pizza). We could cook. we couldn't work (we weren't supposed to). Women wore skirts and dresses to church but could change out of them once home (we usually wore sweats). Every first Sunday was fast and testimony Sunday.

    @@frumitup I'm a Latter-day Saint (aka LDS/ Mormon), and we are taught that on the Sabbath we should abstain from doing unnecessary work and things that would cause other people to have to work on the Sabbath, such as going to stores/restaurants. Instead, we should focus more on the Lord's work such as studying scripture, attending church, helping others, resting, and spending time with family. Each person/family interprets those things differently because they're more of guidelines than hard and fast rules. Even within a single congregation, there will be many variations of "keeping the Sabbath Holy."

    Hi! Good question! We write G.od and not in a full word as it is an interdiction in the Torah to erase / destroyed G.od’s name, so to make sure it does not happen let’s say if someone would print His name we write it in a different way. J’espère que cela répond à votre question en vous souhaitant une très bonne journée❤️
