I mean, I'm 26 and modern YGO cards confuse me, I liked Johnny's deck the most because it was the most straightforward one without being too complex like Matt and Elliot's, or too simple like Greg's, it had the right balance.

17:55 I feel so hard for Uncle Greg here, because I would love to get into Yu-Gi-Oh, but the bar for entry feels way too high unless you organize and group together with other people of your skill level to learn the game properly. That may just be me, though I know there's something to be studied there.

It's actually better to get people you know who are at a higher level than you to help. From there, they can help build simple decks to teach you the mechanics because they can actually go step by step and graduate you from each complex tier as you learn. Master Duel only teaches you some things while not properly preparing you for the real duels that can happen. I should know since there's a massive difference when playing with a friend at a high level for Yu-Gi-Oh versus what Master Duel gives you

When I got a machine that could run the game, a friend was there to coach me with a lot of the new mechanics out there, even if over 80% of the time I didn't understood shit. Doesn't help that the one (and only deck) that I played was a heavy control deck... Eventually I got decent at the game even thou I could get easily outplayed and since the game has a single player portion which did help a lot to get me familiar with the cards I was using. TL;DR: While yugioh has become so complex, if there is passion and people that knows around you. There is a way to get into it, even if the odds are never on your favor.

You could also do Duel Links. You can practice against AI, they are having a big celebration around Blue-Eyes, and they recently introduced Rush Duels.

I relate with Greg SOOOO MUCH in this video. I’ve bricked multiple times with my deck cause I’m bad at making deck and I’ve still played against people who could have killed me 15 special summons ago but they’re so hellbent on playing solitaire that I just get bored and stop playing once the duels over. That’s why I still play Duel Links, cause at least my suffering and eventual demise doesn’t take more than five minutes.

The fact that your game just automatically forfeits if you take too long does speak volumes for how insane it can be to get your moves done.

If you understand your deck well enough, you don't lose that much time. And the solo mode gives you infinite time so you can learn your combos to do all your stuff faster. There are still some decks that take an obscene amount of time to play their turn, but they are usually few and far between. The real obnoxious part of modern Yugioh is the amount of decks where YOUR turn is THEIR turn.

As far as yugioh games go, shout out to world championship 2008, for being the definitive GX experience on a handheld. Tons of fun, I get sucked into replaying it for a good month or so every year

@@sonicfan2403 tbh difficulty isn’t my issue, though I do think the game has become less accessible to casuals, my bigger issue is the rise of the game becoming “either you or I better have counters, or one of us is about to play 20 cards for a turn 1 win”. And even then I’m not saying the game is “bad” by any means, but more that I personally don’t enjoy where the game is as much as I used to.

Really don't know what a lot of people expect since it's a card game that has been running for over 20 years at this point.

​@okagron I can't blame people for not being interested when every card effect is the length of a Shakespeare sonnet. Playing this game even at an elementary level these days requires so much investment that a lot of people don't think it's worth it. If I were to teach a new person this game, I would stick with goat format because card effects were usually a sentence or two long at most.

This was a pleasant surprise for my sunday evening. You guys were hilarious here

With SGB now getting into the YuGiOh-verse, I am definitely looking forward to a Duelist of the Roses LP some day 😭😭

Hell yeah! I love Yu-Gi-Oh, still running my Buster Blader Deck I've had since I started playing way back in the day.

I can't wait to see this goes in part 2 XD it's the perfect smackdown Sunday game

Never take Matt to Vegas or any casino.

Uncle might enjoy Duel Links. 4 cards in hand and 4000 LP. Anime characters galore. For the basic game, it can be an easy time. If you want to get more competitive, then you'll have to look up tips and tricks but even then. No ash blossom. Heck, if you want to go even simpler, they just added rush duel. 5-6 star monsters are considered the "big monsters". Much more user friendly than competitive yugioh nowadays.

I had to double check the notification to make sure I read it right. Was caught so off guard when I got it. Finally, after hearing you guys talk about Yugioh, and johnny’s review on his experiences, we’re finally getting Yugioh content on SGB! And I gotta say, this is the most fun I had watching any master duel content. Can’t wait to see part 2 next Sunday!

Dark world drawing its whole deck in 1 turn is hilarious. Even if you get Maxx C'ed you can most likely deck out the oponent with how much you special summon

I know it's probably fruitless to get Greg to try to get invested into modern play, but I think a strategy like Gunkan Suships would be up his alley. The strategy doesn't usually summon a million times, & I think their game plan would be more digestible to him, as opposed to building a full board of negates or floodgates

Greg's reaction is kind of what Magic the Gathering has been up to of late. Both new and old school players having to read a card because the effect is a small essay sometimes.

At least there it's broad enough. Dragonmaid Sheou would've been transforming card, for example, not two separate cards Here cards literally can have essays that relate to one or two other cards

Really glad you guys decided to go into Master Duel! Hope this sticks around for a good few episodes. From my experience the game runs best on PC (duh), the lag on PS5 or Android was unbearable... For uncle I would recommend either the Dark Magician structure deck or the blackwing structure deck - they feature very good cards and are very beginner friendly and somewhat viable (not anything meta-wise, but it can get ya to Gold easily).

Master Duel got me back into YGO, so I am so happy to see these guys finally show their skills in a video. I am sadly still not the best though, but I am getting better, consistently hitting high ranks with Beetroopers and Toons

I personally always thought Ritual Monsters should've belonged in the Extra Deck, having them in your hand or in the main deck without being able to play them and having to wait until you pull the card you need to summon it was always a pain to me. Would've made more room in the main deck for more easy to summon low level monsters or spells and traps.

That was the main reason i never rocked with rituals, and when i first saw synchros the first thought i had was wow they fixed rituals. Because if you think about it they're just rituals but with a specific monster type, tuner, instead of a spell but the monster you summon is extra deck material instead of main deck.

I imagine if Rituals were like that, it would defeat the existence of Fusions. Since, it would just be a Fusion, but better.

@@SakuraAvalon It kinda depends, since you need to match the exact star count with the tuners which can be difficult depending on the cost whereas fusions you just need the required materials and a means to fuse. honestly it can go either way depending on how you build your deck and the random draws. In fusions case as someone who plays heroes modern fusions of that type just require a hero and a monster of a certain attribute and that's easy to pull since you can use another hero for that too.

Was not expecting Master Duel stuff, but I'm excited for it!

I tried Master Duel once and my first Duel, armed with little more than a glorified starter deck, was a full powered Branded Fusion deck. Yea, I think I will stick with Duel Links. That one even has Rush Duels now. Also, the ARC-V and VRAINS worlds take place after their respective anime.

Man I cannot wait for more of these Makes me wanna play again, wish I could play against y’all with my Live Twin deck and such

As someone who grew up with a group of friends who's only game strategy was "have as many strong normal monsters in the field as possible", the gameplay of this video lost me completery. Still watched and laughted. And now I kinda wish for a yugioh game where it has a single player story where you start the game with old school game and meta but in each chapter the gameplay adds more and more cards, bans and rules that were added in real life chronological order.

As a Blue-Eyes duelist, it makes me super happy that Johnny plays Blue-Eyes, too.

Elemental HEROs are quite crazy these days, especially whenever Konami will finally release Flame Wingman Infernal Rage to the game.

I remember playing this for the first time with friends that are experienced compared to me where I was just basically throwing darts on the board, not knowing what I was doing lol

HOLY SHIT I'VE WANTED THIS FOR YEARS

It was a surprise to see that the guys are doing Yu-Gi-Oh content, which I never expected. Hopefully this can be a ongoing thing and as for me, I personally use Galaxy/Photon as my main deck. Mostly for fun since I have bad luck against meta threats. I also want to avoid ranked because Kashtira is one of the most bs archtypes ever made.

I fell out of Yugioh for the longest time. It was seeing an Albaz deck on sale and getting into the lore of those cards that got me interested once again though. Been collecting Dogmaticka, Despia and Swordsoul since.

I should go back to playing this game again but yes. This is the best way to play Yu-Gi-Oh digitally. And the music goes so hard for no reason! ^^

I need to get back into YGO, but I suck in making decks...I'd love to make a Dragon/Warrors or Heroes/Warriors deck. And Syncro dragon one. Also, to answer Greg's question of "Why not just attack?" Dick waving.

7:58-8:01 Yugioh Forbidden Memories is my favorite Yugioh soundtrack For some reason I don’t understand how none of the games past like Falsebound kingdom have reused it and of all things not to reuse I just………why 😢

My favorite card is Convlusions of Nature due to not only being a unique effect, and a cool artwork that makes it look like it would be some Omni elemental field spell and actually playing your deck backwards (Before shuffling happen) But also because if you try to use it in any online duel; the game can’t handle its effect

Also Johnny I know what you mean, back in the Zexal period, I dueled a kid on Yugioh Pro who activated Dark Mirror Force and claimed it was the original mirror force. (For those not in the know, Dark Mirrorforce destroys defense position monsters.) SO frustrating!

Man, me and others waited for something like this for a long time. I don't really play Master Duel though as I'm more of a single player guy, and Master Duel leans more towards online play as far as I know. That and it don't got much in terms of single player content.

7:44 This and Duel Links just have some of the hardest OSTs out there for no reason. I guess it fits because YGO soundtracks are generally really good (the original, GX's second OST, all 3 of 5Ds's soundtracks, all four of Arc-V's are what I'd recommend people listen too), but it's so funny you can play this and DL on the shitter with either massive booming orchestras or hard rock blaring from your phone.
