    It will be interesting to see this Momota's attacking style in his first set vs the classic attacking style Lin Dan (which he has shown in recent Malaysia Open 2019). I still think despite being 36 years old, LD has the edge over Momota when it comes to the attacking play. Despite LD lost terribly one of the matches against Momota last year or so, their recent matches ended in 3 sets.

  • @user-gz7fh8vo6e

    @user-gz7fh8vo6e

    I don't see this happening, and it pains me to watch LD's decline as he's one of my favorite players other than LCW. Let's be serious, LD stands no chance against Momota. Momota can destroy him any day right now if LD doesn't change his style significantly, and he isn't going to do that. LD plays very well against his own teammates and LCW (who honestly plays himself more than LD plays him). There are no players other than Ginting right now whose attack actually consistently can break through Momota's defense. None. Viktor was onto something in the second set here, but how do you go from 16-6 up to losing the match? ....... The most painful match is to watch LD vs Momota at Japan Open, where Momota literally beats him by just CLEARING.

    Momota's ball control is great but still lack of a lethal smash - LD has both. Momota will continue to have trouble with power players like Shi Yuqi, Chou Tien Chen and Jonathon Christie if they are in top form.

    The young LD certainly has very lethal smashes. But, the classic attacking style LD has come back in the recent Malaysia open. And I agree. Both LD and Momota has great control of strategic shots placement. But, LD"s defense has been penetrated severely because his recent years defensive style have long been exposed by opponents and the young opponents exploited that by preparing their defense and attacking surrounding LD's habit of defense. But, that has all changed. Look at how clueless was Shi Yuqi when LD executed all lethal smashes especially sideway smashes (Momota has been able to do this with great power - he mostly drop for sideway shots). At the current level, only Momota and LD have great control of shots with very minimal easy mistakes. But, you are right. if LD continues the attacking style until Tokyo Olympic, LD is very possibly to be the only player who gain 3 Olympic Gold Medasl and certainly be assured then, no one will almost ever beat this record. I'm very sure LD will not be the strong contender has he not changed his defensive style play. I'm glad that the former everyone fear of, the attacking style LD has back.

    Chye Heng it the end. It doesn’t matter who has the hardest smash or the deadliest drops and etcs. It only matter if u win or lose. Momota has stamina and is able to win games by playing calm and relax and doesn’t really need to a hard smash and etcs to win points. I’ve played badminton for 7 years now and still trainning and I can say 1 thin for sure. It’s all about stamina and how u place the shuttles and in order to win points. Tire out your opponent, make them move around and make them make the mistakes and just finish it. Either with a drop, smash or whatever it is.

    @@Brandmhd1321 when all else equal, lethal smashes wins. And no one is talking about pure hard smashes like CTC, Srikanth or even Viktor. LD equals or even has better control than Momota. When he decided to use back his lethal attacking game in Malaysia Open, he knocked the hell out of all youngsters who played well like Shi Yuqi, CTC, Chen Long etc. And thank you for stating the obvious. Without stamina, it doesn't work with any sports, not just badminton. And if you understand the whole context, MOmota has great control and basic games today, matching LD's. What he lacks is lethal smash capability. It's proven in the 2 times lost to Ginting.

    Chye Heng this time he will beat gintang 😁hopefully :p and yeah I guess u right. But a lot of players that level are train to receive lethal smash and if Momota tries to deliver too much lethal smashes and they return it, it be using up too much energy. Then his regular smashes will be weaken.

Some are more strict, while others are lenient. It's the luck of the draw when players get good or bad refereeing. There were cases when LD is in a game with a bad umpire (like in the first round of this tournament) and he wasn't treated fairly either (bad line calls). Don't drag other non-involved players into this match discussion..
