The distortion just puts it in an evh realm. I’m liking ceramics more n more these days

When I was four, I used ceramics to put my artwork on the fridge. Ceramics are nostalgic.
I love your channel Clint, it's no nonsense, straight to the point content.
It's a pleasure to hear you play the guitar. You have a lot of skill and technique, you are very good.
Excellent playing and tone! Thanks for the comparison.
One of the best comparisons out there. 👍
Both sound fucking awesome, and great playing!
Thanks!!!! It was so great!
Thanks! Just what I needed to hear.....
The SD, JB & 59 combination is the best pickup combo for a custom built guitar. Sounds amazing 👏

I've used a lot of pickups and the JB is simply the most all-around adaptable pickup I've ever used. Either that or a Custom SH-5. I also love the Distortion. But the JB has the right amout of everything. It shines in guitars with a lot of natural mids because it helps them cut through and makes the sound big and bright. It works great in mahogany, basswood, alder as well. I just wouldn't put it in maple because I find that way too bright. I would put it in swamp ash but not regular ash. If you've got an Ibanez or Gibson solid body the JB is superb.

How Abt if used on poplar?

@@laylatigreal7510 Don’t listen to him… a JB sounds great in any wood. Especially if you’re playing distorted tones, at that point the wood has absolutely no affect. During cleans, possibly but most likely not. Tone wood only really matters in acoustic guitars

Yes. It's great in poplar. I have in it a poplar Squier right now and it sounds amazing, just like the poplar Kramer I Baretta I had in '87 that came stock with a JB. The only issues I've had with a JB were in very bright guitars, but I generally avoid very bright guitars. In most guitars it's going to sound great. @@laylatigreal7510

Wrong. Tonewood matters, but less so if you are playing cranked out ultra-high gain metal. Not all distorted tones are the same either. If you are using a very scooped, ultra gain Uberschall tone then you could be playing a baseball bat with a microphone and it's going to sound metal. For the sort of tones demonstrated in the video above, tonewood makes much more of a difference. I had a guitar a few years ago that was very bright with a maple fretboard and the JB didn't work well with it. I changed it to a Duncan Custom Custom TB-11/SH-11 and that worked a lot better. Otherwise, I throw the JB in everything and give it a chance. Most of the time it's great.@@ShaneStoneOfficial
Got real fun at the end! Wicked pair work well together. Since you can't move the Charvel neck and D.D. over easily I understand the need to KEEP BOTH!
Cool tunes and jamming! Shows how a magnet can make a huge difference! The Distortion is a JB, with a ceramic magnet. Makes it much tighter, and less mid honk.
that charvel is one of the best guitars I ever touched in my life

Well, you are pretty fast satisfied then…
I’m currently saving a bit to buy that exact Charvel guitar and everything I watch about it just confirms my choice 🤘🤘
Totally badass demo. I've owned a lot of Distortions and JBs. Great example of how their tone differs. I can't say one pickup is better than the other. It's really a matter of what works best for you in what guitar. I've opted for the JB probably 7 out of 10 times, and the Distortion 3 out of 10 times. It was more to do with the nature of the guitars I was using them in. The JB is much more adaptable for most situations, and the 59 or Jazz are the best neck pups to pair with a JB. The Distortion seems to work better with a Jazz than a 59, probably because it's a somewhat meaner sounding pickup and the Jazz has a tad more output than a 59. I also love the SH-5 Custom with the ceramic mag.
great tone
I like the JB for rhythm and the sound of the distortion for leads. They both sound great.
Wickedest Jag ever !! 💥
Distortion have little more attack and thick tone and more sustain. Jb is more rounder warm sounding and more balanced i think. Both great i like both.
I have the same charvel. It's a fantastic guitar
The fender sound is marvelous❤ the charvel is no bad...
More bite with the Distortion, I prefer! 👍
They're kinda the same but Distortion has more sting and compression. Both are ideal picks for classic rock and classic metal. Great playing!!
I'm not usually into offsets, but that Jag looks sick! What model are you using on the Helix?
I traded my Carvel Socal that had the distortion pickups... and I kind of regret getting rid of it. I have another Socal with the JB/Jazz combo that is nice.
The Distortion is the first pickup I recommend to anyone who likes the JB but wants more bite and snarl. The Distortion delivers. For anyone who wants a JB to sound more PAFish with a bit less output I recommend the Custom series, starting with the Custom 5.
What model and year is theJaquar? Wow it looks and sounds great.
JB and "59 without a doubt.
i’ve got this same Charvel. Love those SD Distortions in it, great for hard rock and metal of course. Got my Les Paul Standard with the JB set and that’s rocking of course just as great, probably over all more open and clean, versatile than the Distortions.

Very nice!
Got the same Charvel and although it’s great I do wish they had gone with the JB/59 combo in it or even a pearly gates in the bridge with a 59 in the neck.

Me too. I may try it some day, although these are superb sounding in a different way.
Please help me, between SH-6 and Parallel axis, what's much strong?

I like how they both sound with 250k pots. I can tell you tamed the high end a little bit 😎
@jsadctnfn1
3 ай бұрын
I think both pickups sound amazing with 500k pots! Just use a .047uF capacitor on your tone pot, OR dial your tone knob back a bit, 'til you hit the sweet spot! Tone pots don't have to be turned up to 10, and I know that this is why people hate on the JB so much! Yes, Seymour designed the pickup around a 250k pot, no question... however, if ANYONE ever bothered to check out a Duncan wiring scheme when they purchase a JB or Distortion for that matter, Seymour uses .047uF capacitors with 500k pots!
nice playing and nice tone.
This, folks, is why you should almost always play with backing tracks, except when working out something technical, or doing specific exercises.
Just the demo I was looking for, both sounded great but hard to beat the JB I do like the distortion neck better than the 59. I think I'm going to try the JB/dist neck combo since I have a loaded so cal PG sitting on the bench.

I was thinking to do the same, jb and sh6 neck. How did it go? Sounds good??
@angusorvid8840

I'd go with the Jazz. It pairs better with a JB than anything else. The 59 is a good pickup but it's just a bit too pinched sounding at times. The Jazz is a bit more open.
Clint, I have a 2004 Fender Jaguar Special JGS HH (Made in Japan) Black. With the Seymour Duncan 59 neck pickup in your Jag are you using the 4C Shielded (or the C Braided Shield) with the JB Model TB-4? I'm guessing it's the 4C Shielded.
The distortion is good for playing motley crue song ????
Hard to tell how good sound a pick up when the player is so good. 😅 let’s just say you definitely make them sound at the top in their space.

A good player shows you the potential of a pickup. Results may otherwise vary.
I love both the JB and Distortion but if I had to live on a desert Island and could only bring one it would be the JB for sure.

Charvel with distortions best !
I have both combinations in Strats The Mayhem set (SH6 Distortion) loves Basswood bodies and maple Boards
I love The SD JB. combined with a Wilkinson trem it sounds awesome. JB does not stand for "Jeff Beck" however... Jazz-Blues. Probably common knowledge by now.
@jsadctnfn1
3 ай бұрын
Sure, that's what Seymour says! In all honesty... probably because he couldn't use Beck's name without paying him royalties, to do so. We ALL know that he made that first pickup for Jeff Beck! That is common knowledge! So, do you really think the JB didn't stand for Jeff Beck? Also, back in the late 70's/early 80's, Seymour had rewound Eddie Van Halen a pickup. A few months later, guitar magazines had run an ad by Seymour listing his pickups. There was a new pickup on that list, a Custom, that was said to have a ceramic mag. It was listed as the Van Halen pickup, without EVH's consent. Eddie tells the story, and says he got pissed and phoned Seymour, and told him to take that ad down! I am thinking Seymour (who always took notes of what he did), just copied what he did to Eddie's pickup, and created the Custom.

@@analogman9697 It was in the bridge of his Tele. There are pics and KZread vids of Jeff playing it. Not to mention, a whole write up about it. I think Seympur might have even given him that guitar? Some had happened to Jeff's Les Paul, or something. Anyway...

@@jamesjohnson5790 Thanks...never thought about Jeff and the tele that much. I have been dispensing erroneous info to anyone who would listen, so I stand corrected.
There is no doubt the JB and the 59 combo go together just like peanut butter and jelly but the DiMarzio super distortion is a hell of a bridge pickup
JB and 59 all day every day .
Duncan Distortion for me
A little “surfing” anyone!!…it all sounded good to me👍
КЛАСС 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Привет из Ташкента
JB & 59 sound fuller, Distortion a little brighter
Great tones here, but this is a pretty apples and oranges comparison as far as guitars go....
Go Joe....
Satriani sounds better on JB/59 for sure) Sd6 is like way more open hights so it Dream theather for that would apply better)
All great, but lean toward the JB/59 pups.
Never heard so much Van Halen on a fender Jaguar😊👍
