Just throwing this out there.. maybe some of these topics could be covered as part of a maternity leave takeover type-thing? Like how the vlogbrothers had other creators/ friends make videos while they took paternity leave. It could give you a bit more breathing room to enjoy those first few months without worrying about the content machine and needing to please the algorithm gods

This whole video just makes me appreciate Hannah as a creator. She is just so smart and efficient when it comes to her video-making style and I really appreciate it, I've learned so much and found so much comfort in this channel. Sex has always been an uncomfy subject for me and Hannah has completely changed that.

I feel like Sex and Capitalism Could work as a series, similar to Leena's Positive Panic series. So you could cover contraception, the sex toy costs, porn, etc. in difficult videos, but under the same heading. I'd also love to see videos on sex addiction, virginity, and sex-positive parenting. Edit: Different, not difficult!

I got the same sense on the circles of sexuality chart; it'd be too superficial to cover every part of that in one video, but each part also has a lot to dive into (examples, intersections, history..) for a series of midlength separate videos.

Yes I think that this is such a great way to talk about topics that you do not have enough knowledge about to feel comfortable to educate us. Maybe it would be possible do this in video format in the future?

There was a doingit-podcast ages ago with someone who wrote erotica/was a founder of a erotic convention (eroticon?!) don't quite remember who, but she talked a lot about how she talked to her children about her job, how the children self-censored and accepted that their Mum's writing wasn't for them etc... I think she would make a great convo partner for talking to children about sex.

Hannah! Please more STI content. I do clinical research on infectious diseases and I feel like there’s so much people don’t know and so much stigma! All the ideas you suggested sounded SO GOOD!

I would love to hear you talk more about abortion. Maybe you go into this in the podcast (I will check it out!), but something I notice is often left out of depictions of abortion is what happens afterwards. For example, I love Sex Education, but I was so disappointed that after Maeve has her abortion (great episode), it is literally never mentioned again. It may not affect everyone long term, but I experienced a lot of trauma after I had an abortion. While it was the right choice for me at that time, it was incredibly painful both emotionally and physically, and for a long time I didn’t even think I was allowed to be upset about it. I think being able to relate to other people’s experiences of it would have really helped me!

One thing that you might be interested in reading is "youre the only one I've ever told, untold stories of abortion" it does a really good job talking through a wide range of experiences and goes more into the after than most other work on the topic. It might help you feel less alone in your experience.

I very much agree! When abortion is discussed it’s usually about the law or bodily autonomy, I haven’t heard any discussions about the after effects. even when you want the abortion and know it’s the right choice, it can be extremely traumatising. it’s often just glossed over (like in sex education as you say, i had hoped for more then too!). I know for some women it really isn’t a big deal, and that’s a part of the narrative too, but for others it can be painful and emotionally extremely difficult. It was extremely traumatising for me, I bled for 6 weeks after and was emotionally distraught. It took a long time for me to feel like myself again, even though I never regretted the decision and always knew it was the right choice for me, I needed the time to heal physically and emotionally. I wish I had been prepared for this scenario as well, that I hadn’t felt so alone in it and didn’t feel like I should just be completely fine and get over it because it was my choice. It took me many years to be able to open up about the trauma. I’m here if you want to chat about your similar experiences! :)

Specilly when way to many think abortion is used instead of a condom and people just go in have it done and it's over. Those people make me furious. Like just hormones are shut off and bling it's over. It's so mutch more and abortion is such a secret subject to talk about that it's impossible to find info the after. What fysical happen after and how that affects body and mind

It is a strange feeling to know you made the right choice, yet feel really sad about that choice. I wish there was more information out there, because I think the hardest part for me was feeling very isolated by the experience. It would have made such a difference to be able to work through the painful experience with support. I hope this becomes an option for people in the future!

You do a lot of videos assuming people are having sex. You've spoken about consent many times, but normally when it's given. Have you considered making a video about when consent is refused? How to deal with with saying no, or being told no. Of corse this would lead on to incels, which is a whole topic on its own.

This is a topic that I'm always searching for as well. It doesn't seem to show up on any sex youtuber's video output. I think part of the problem is that there's no large group and no large label for this state - except for the incels, who are getting a lot of focus due to their violence. What also confuses me is that labels differ across different countries. Over here in Germany there's "Absolute Beginners" for people without romantic/sexual experience, and in the US the "Love, not Anger" might come close to this. I hope that actual help is eventually given to those who are constantly experiencing rejection.

Trans human here. I definitely feel included in your education! I also agree that educating more on the topic isn't really your place and I'm happy to hear about you giving trans people space on your platform to do the educationing on the matter. The same goes for the other topics that "isn't your place". I think the way you've chosen to spread light on those topics are great. PS. If I may; on the topic of BDSM. Do you know of fellow youtuber Kat Blaque? She is a black trans woman who have lots of experience in BDSM. Maybe someone you can invite to educate on the topic?

Kat hits several of the themes mentioned - she talks about being a sexual assault survivor and hypersexuality in relation to it - but I think the angle and vibe is a little bit different: I hate the racial connotations to dark/light metaphors but in that sense I think Kat takes a darker tone, broader approach to experience & opinionation but I think Hannah is as she says vanilla.

I think a video or series about STIs would be great! You could solely focus on common myths, misunderstandings, media depictions and stigmas of different STIs and provide links and resources for the more medical aspects

Have you ever done a video on asexuality? I discovered that I’m ace this year and would love to see more people talk about it!

For the topic of sexual wellbeing being a human right, have a look into the Australian legal case relating to whether the National Disability Insurance Scheme should pay for sex workers for disabled people on the scheme. It's been in our news over here on and off.

Actually good budgetfriendly sex toys are definitely something I'm interested in. I don't even know what would be a "good price" for a toy to be honest. I have been doing the parenting thing for about 4,5 years now. Since both my children have penises we definitely had some great conversations regarding my general lacking in that area. Privacy went out the window at some point during potty training so I've also had the pleasure of explaining periods to them (they know not to panic when there's blood, they don't know exactly how it got there though). I just tackle it the way I would any subject, I try to be honest and open, but I take into consideration that their brains aren't fully capable at processing everything that happens so I simplify the facts a little bit. I try not to fabricate stories or make up explanations, just simplify to their level of understanding.

I know it was a tricky and kinda controversial one, but I found your video about fantasies and interests in pleasure to be really valuable! Talking about how fantasy doesn't always align with reality or what you really want or experience was so good for me to hear about, so thanks for making it

I have to pick and choose my topics due to trauma, but also, as a sex educator & trauma response and recovery, I have to balance my emotions. It's hard a lot of the times esp. as a spoonie to balance my energy in all aspects. :/

@@justinstaebler7139 a disabled person who has limited amounts of energy, or "spoons," that we have to be aware of the amount of energy we have. for ex: my day usually consists of me getting up at 6am, do my sacred morning routine, eat, poop, brush my teeth, and get dressed for the day. i usually have everything done by 2pm, sometimes before noon on a light day, self care after until i go to bed around 10pm. my calendar is my life and i often have to plan AROUND my disability because america isn't very accessible. i hope this answers your question and thank you for trying to educate yourself! :)

Im one of those sex educators that go into classrooms to teach sexual health and I’ve shared a few videos of yours with students, so I really appreciate you sharing this video to give me insight into the values you have when it comes to sex education. As a Sex Educator with such a large platform it really concerns me you would even consider doing a video on sex addiction not being real. This could be very damaging for the huge number of people globally who are suffering from compulsive sexual behaviour, making them feel their daily reality isn’t ‘real’ and possibly blocking them from seeking help. A potential more balanced video exploring the concept of sex addiction fair enough (one can see how in some contexts the concept of sex addiction can be damaging) but rejecting it entirely seems very polarising for such a complex issue x

I feel like there could be room to explore the different forms that things like & compulsive sexual behaviour & hypersexuality & high libido can take & how it may be a damaging or scary or trauma-related experience for some people (but maybe not for others) - which are both definitely a very real thing!! - without necessarily using the language of "sex addiction." the use of the word "addiction" to describe any before that someone finds themself doing either a) more that the social norm (not necessarily bad) or b) more than they would like & may experience distressing consequences from (or a complex interplay of both), has a lot of problems bc it conflates these things w the state of physical dependency one is experience when one takes addictive drugs. the dependency or compulsive relationship to sex or food or internet is really not the same thing as physical addiction & has the effect of overly pathologizing certain types of sexual behaviour imo.

I know people who go to Sex Addicts Anonymous and do get help there with some being in relationships so I am not sure I fully agree sex addiction does not exist, although like other addictions I don't think there is an absolute maximum number that proves addiction. I think people can use very risky sex to feel something or avoid feeling something which can be a behavior of an addict. I am not an expert on this but think like many sexual topics there is a spectrum of possibilities.

Thank you for sharing this, its really interesting to see your processes behind the scenes here. If you ever do make any of these videos I'd be so excited to see any of them

I would LOVE to have "doing it"-highlight youtube channel where little clips with interesting parts of the podcast are posted. Those channels are the main content I consume on youtube, but I also understand how much work it is to film, cut and choose...but I would be so hyped to follow that one

I would love if you ever wanted to interview someone to talk about sexual violence and maybe it’s affects on people or affects on their later sex life! I have personal experience but I also am in my final year of a bachelor of science Forensic Psychology doing my dissertation project on sexual violence victims and I’m also going on to do my doctorate so I feel I could talk more academically also!

I'm not sure if you've done this but I'd love to see a video on asexuality and the effect of that/how it plays into relationships. I noticed in your recent video talking about how bring pregnant has affected your libido, you mentioned that you worried about what is 'enough' sex in a relationship. It would be interesting to delve into that idea, why it exists and how we can debunk it. As well as how it plays into asexual relationships.

I appreciate when people recognize that they may not be the best person to speak on a topic. I feel like we're had a wild last year and a half and everyone is quick to deem themselves an expert. I think there's lots of conversations to be had about privilege in the content creations space. I've found it particularly frustrating as someone who embodies lots of intersections. I don't have all of the answers but I just appreciate when people know it's not their lane but can maybe get in the car with someone else as a passenger (does that metaphor even make sense?? 😅)

Really love the idea of going and learning a practical new skill such as learning rope bondage and making a video / journey about it. All be it now may not be the best time with pregnancy and Covid.

Saying “Sex addiction is not real” sounds like something that an addict in denial would say! I’ve heard many alcoholics use similar language. It’s very dangerous!

Not being super knowledgeable on something and wanting to learn but feeling put off by other people know more is a mood... I feel like everyone who is public about kink seems to be mad smart on the topic. If anything I'd be interested to hear about you learning about it at the same time as me. @@hannahwitton If you want a name for your baby you could call her Genevieve if it is a girl because it is a beautiful name or Christian if it is a boy and your baby may like one of those names how they are or so that your baby might make it shorter if it wanted to and it has great meanings and it is a nice long name for your baby to have and would be great to have good pronunciation skills and your baby would have more letters to write and playing around with more letters that is more fun and being creative. about the "circles of sexuality" and you not wanting to make a video about something that you could just send a link to: as a person with adhd and a non-english native speaker, you just explaining things in an accessible way makes a huge difference. i have a lot of trouble absorbing information through text (esp. in english), but when people explain things to me i soak up a lot! and the more people who explain things with their words and personal experiences tied to it, the better i will grasp the subject. this is not me trying to convince you to do something you don't want, but maybe just change your perception of oral exchange of information and learning through "dialogue" (it feels like talking to you when i watch your videos). anyway, huge thanks to you for existing and making these vids, you have taught me so much and make my life a lot brighter

Loved that video! I'm curious if you'll ever check off all the topics. I'd love to listen to a podcast regarding STI, there are people who do great job talking about living with uncurable STIs, and it can really help the people right after the diagnose.

I think this is selfish of me (I can just decide not to watch if you did create a video on the topic) but we hear about sexual violence every day and it's exhausting. One of the reasons I love watching your videos is that you portray sex and sexuality and all their complexities in such an unapologetically joyful way. That's not a reason to shy away from the topic, but for me your content is sort of a safe space to try and untangle and disregard some feelings of trauma and shame and focus on positive sexual experiences 🌟 Like you said, I think focusing on enthusiastic content as a given sort of leans into the topic but again in a positive way. But this is your channel and you're a fantastic educator, so will support whatever content you make 😊

I would love a video on all of these topics! Something that could be cool is making a video clip of the podcasts whose topics are too intimidating or awkward to make a whole video of for KZread. The pop science journalism, with that homely funtimes prosumer authenticity performance of your own learning journey, is all exactly what I'm here for. Less the dry science and edutainment, since I get that elsewhere, moreso the personal journey and the earnest platforming of other genius folk.

Hey, about sex and capitalism, I studied this book in a doctoral workshop that has interesting ideas that can be applied to this subject. It's Hartmut Rosa's "The Uncontrollability of the World" (2020). Essentially, capitalism has given us a vision of the world as a "point of agression" : we need to master it, optimize it, control it. He gives a lot of examples and applies this to romance at some point, but I am sure it applies also to our sex lives. It's a short book, super entertaining to read too!

I might be in the minority here but I still love a good collab video! It's how I've found the vast majority of the channels I watch, including this one! Maybe KZread just decided to stop promoting them because as a company they wanted a different type of content to get more attention? Idk, but please bring back collabs if it's something you want to do! I'll at least be 100% here for it!

yes! and after filming this as well I was thinking about capitalist culture and how it makes us prioritise productivity over rest and there can definitely feel a pressure in sex to be trying everything/doing everything/exploring/having loads of sex for your sex life to be valid!

I love that point of being in a place of knowledge without really feeling like an expert. That you can be a guide for others and don't have to be the oracle. I'm going to try to take that heart more often. A very interesting collection of topics. Some I'm not even that familiar with. Never even heard of CBD wellness products. Well I'm just going list off a few anyway for anyone to consider. Interracial or cross cultural sexual relationships. Intergenerational sexual relationships. Age of Consent laws and how they differ. What is Pornography? Different legal and cultural definitions and how they've changed over time. Sexual Revolution. What and when did a period of changing sexual standards expectation take places? Was there more than one? How much really changed in reality versus goals? Was it even really a revolution at all? The Construction vs. Essentialism models of Sexual Identities.

I feel like sexual health topics could be very useful. When I was deciding what method of contraception to use, even though you would think that there would be lots of info online and to some extent there is, however on the nhs website and the other websites like planned parenthood there are pros and cons of each method it would be really useful to go through a deep dive into what each experience is like. How certain pills can affect mental health like depression and anxiety. How long after you stop each contraception method your fertility returns to normal (as it can take a couple of months for certain methods).etc. I felt like I had to really research them extensively than find them in one place. I know you're not a medical health professional but I feel like that would actually be refreshing to hear from someone who takes part in this and someone who is well-informed rather than someone who needs to be super objective about it (which is also very important!)

I related to all of this SO MUCH from when I used to make content myself. I was creating content where there was a massive gap in the industry because no one was talking about it so it felt really important to me to constantly get things right, to start a conversation and educate from my own perspective that wasn't being represented. After a while, it really took a toll on me that not everyone (in fact, quite a lot of people) didn't have not only the same views but didn't even join in the conversation and it made me feel like I was fighting a losing battle. When one of your video's has gone 'mainstream', do you feel like a similar thing has happened to you?

As someone who has severe ptsd for sexual assault and rape I'd love to see content on that. And sometimes even If you don't give consent sick people will do what they want. It's not necessarily something you can avoid

re: wanting to do a video about learning rope, i'd suggest asking a dominatrix whose website features photos of rope if she's available to teach you an intro class! they're almost always very knowledgeable people (and imho there's value in appreciating their professional expertise as a persistently stigmatised category). for a "post covid" future perhaps?

Interestingly I am not subscribed, have only watched a few of your videos, none for a long time. But this video came up high on my main youtube feed thing, whatever it's called, and really caught my attention

I'd really love it if (whenever you can) you could recommend resources, even other educators, especially on one of these topics that you feel uncomfortable taking on entirely on your own (which is so so valid and understandable, and should be respected). I do really enjoy research myself, and I almost exclusively use youtube and social networks for that research and/or educating myself. BUT, it is so so hard sometimes to find the voices that you're looking for. Particularly when the topics are not algorithm friendly. And not knowing much about the topic also makes it difficult to even google it, because you don't know the specific terms you'd have to use. Particulary when you're looking for a non-mainstream perspective, whatever it is.

I would be happy to receive a video on Vestibulitis Vulvae Syndrome (VVS), which is a very unknown and painful disease, at least in most of Europe, which receives almost no attention. It doesn't have to be a 100% medically correct contribution, just starting the conversation about the topic would be enough! :))

Yes this! Don't know if VVS is the same as vulvodynia or if they are just very related diagnoses, but definitely more conversations about pain in/around the vulva.

Regarding your idea with CBD, I had to do some research for some articles I wrote & my conclusion is that it is this new "hype" thing in the wellness industry because there has been no proof of negative effects so far and it sells because of the stereotype of the plant and the associated drug (even tho you cannot get high from CBD whatsoever). Which means it sells incredibly well. It can be beneficial but never in a crazy, exciting way. I even think it might be a placebo effect in many cases. Also, due to the hype, the production has now rapidly become unsustainable. So, yeah, a fun video idea for sure but the outcome would probably be "meh, they are not bad but not very good either and it is all just one big marketing thing" 😅 On another note, as someone who heals from trauma I really appreciate your approach via the topic of consent. I don't want to be confronted with the dark stuff all the time (yes it is important but it does not need to be repeated in the same way everywhere), I much prefer the approach of a positive change towards a society of consent. 😊

I think that the topic of period positivity is interesting, especially in a capitalistic system. On one hand, period positivity is important in de-stigmatize menstruating bodies that are often the subject of shame in a patriarchal, heteronormative society. However, on the other hand, there are definitely companies like Vagisil (as Mama Doctor Jones has covered in her video reacting to problematic teen marketing) that are leveraging the need for period positivity to market their own products, misinform consumers about their health, and promote the idea that a person’s femininity is dependent on their ability to menstruate. This all perpetuates the same idea that there is a right or wrong body, which period positivity was trying to dismantle in the first place.

Sorry if you already have (not sure), but I think talking about the ace and aro spectrums (asexual and aromantic, respectively) is really important, and quite rarely discussed.

Sounds like you’re kinda talking about the dunning kruger effect - where there’s an inverse relationship with how much you know about a subject and how much you feel like you’re an expert on it. Bc the more you know the more you’re aware of how much more there is to know so you feel like you’re less of an expert than you are. Just a fun psych thing I remember from my degree lol

Nothing is wrong with me? Yes, something is wrong with me, and it makes me wonder about this entire realm. No one talks about people like me, but it's in part because we are so rare. I'm a "chaemera", and was born without genitals of any either sex. So am I sexual being? How do you be a sexual being? What is an orgasm, and I capable of having one? Is anyone ever going to consider me attractive, or am I going to be alone my whole life? I'm quite curious about all these topics, but it all seems so foreign to me. It's so cool that Hanna's going to have a baby. I'm never going to be able to be a parent unless I adopt, and if I do that, or even if I'm allowed to do that, will I be a mother, a father, or something entirely different. I have to admit, all if this is a complete mystery to me, and I hate having no clue about what everyone else just is and does; something that is so fundamental to the human experience. Well, this is a topic that I'm sure Hanna or anyone else isn't going to want to touch. Ah well. I'm just praiting along. Also, is it sex and capitalism, or is it sex and consumerism?

13:30 porn industry in general - I've watched some Holly Randall unfiltered episodes (photog in the porn industry for many years) where she interviews a lot of really well known stars from years gone by. They talk about their own history and the industry general stuff ckmes up a bit through that too, but found it interesting especially if you recognise names/seen some of their work.
