This is an easy project for a beginner to sew, as a lot of my projects have been quite comprehensive I thought I'd go right back to basics with this one. Enjoy sewing it!

That's a lovely idea!
so glAD TO SEE HER ON YOU TUBE.. SHE IS THE BEST AT WHAT SHE DOES . AND HER DIRECTIONS HAVE HELPED ME MANY TIMES
Thank you! As a beginner sewer, I really appreciate that you actually show the sewing part. Most videos have the person telling what to do, cutting out, and coming back with the finished part. It helps me a lot to actually see the sewing being done! Looking forward to trying this project!
Thank you for this and all your videos. Your generosity in sharing all these tutorials is much appreciated - and added bonus, not having to listen to banal chatter, shrieking and other silliness so it's a pleasure to listen to you.
One of the best tutorials I have seen. I finally learned to make bags❤️ Thanks Debbie.
It is good that you showed us the little tuck in the seam - it makes sewing more real and that we are normal. A very nice bag. Thank you.

Things don't always go right first time, I think it's important to show this, I wouldn't want any new sewers to think everythings perfect!

Hello Debbie. I'd like to thank you for teaching me to sew. My mother was a seamstress, but never encouraged me. Since watching your videos I've made a load of things both for myself and as gifts. I also got 4 of your books for Christmas. In this video you mention the Frixion pens leaving a bleach mark in the fabric. I've found that if you wipe the affected area with a clean damp cloth, the bleaching disappears. Thank you so much for your videos, I'm now addicted to sewing.

Thanks for the tip with the pen, I'll give it a go!

Frixion pens were mfg. for paper, not for fabric...the lines re-appear when the quilt gets cold, can leave ghosting on the fabric, and can take out the dye of fabric...I'd not use them...use ceramic mech. pencil instead.
Thank you Debbie, you are always the first person I go to for inspiration and lovely new ideas

Yes Debbie, very clear, I’ve made about 30 of your bags and often have to return to your tutorial! Thanks very much x
Love your tolerance of the novice. Missed you puppy in these videos. Thank you .
You add straps and lining to a bag easier than I've ever seen, it leaves a lot of room to get creative with the base of the bag, thank you so much for this tutorial and the many others.
I am a beginner at sewing and this bag was the first one I made. It came out great! Thank you Debbie for your great tutorials. You have given me the confidence I needed.🙂✂️
Wow, you've made this look so easy to make, I cannot wait to get started on one. Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial video!
Another great video and very well timed...I bought fabric yesterday at the Stitches Craft Show, with the idea in mind to make a few tote bags...yay.....More than inspiration now....Thanks Debbie...
This bag is so cute and looks easy to do. Love your choice of fabrics. Thank you so much for all of your tutorials. Have a great day Debbie!
Thanks so much, Debbie, I’m so pleased with the bag I made for my teenage granddaughter!
You're my hero!!!!! Adorable bag and great tutor. Thank you
I just love her she explain very well how to make them , I finally learned how to make a tote, love her , hopefully she will have more videos, thank you so so much
I've never thought of making the lining a bit taller than the basic part of the bag, so I'm very happy to learn this tip from you on how to make that nice band at the top. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with us.

No problem Emily, glad you liked it!
I probably helped a couple of people at my sewing classes to make these bags, so easy to make, can be done in less than an hour and I even made a few myself, thanks Debbie for such a wonderful tutorial
I have used this tutorial on many occasions. As I have a bad memory, I go back to it again and again.
I love it! As a mediocre sewer this is definately a project i will feel confident in sewing! Can't wait to make one for each of my daughter's for Mother's Day! Thank you! ⚘💕⚘
What a wonderful tutorial [for beginners like me]. Easy to follow, and results in a very cute bag. Thank you for taking the time to share this!
Hi Debbie. I watched your video at 8 am but (I guess your furry pals were in bed) our time but couldn't leave a multitude of words. My Ole Dame needed help. I always THINK of you. Debbbie you amaze me when you sew SO FAST on curves. What a great neat job. I love watching all your video tutorials and your voice is relaxing. I miss YOUR MASTERS VOICE. This is an easy project for me. The one inch you turned over gives this humble bag a posh look. I also learnt something NEW instead of a folded "gusset" you cut squares in the corners. That was great. You are exceptional. 💓💓💓💓 Hugs
Loved the tutorial! Clear instructions and demo and at just the right pace. Thank you very much!
I using my husband's youtube account lol. Hi, my name is Anabella. Thank you so much for share your incredible talent I just finished my first bag following your video. God bless you
Debbie this is a really cute bag. This pattern is similar to the pattern I'm doing for girls at our high school. We have a room off the library that carries clothes and personnel items for the less fortunate students. The girls are needing simple but nice bags about this size to carry personal items in so the boys can't see through the bag. You have given me an idea of putting the heart or a star on the bags and cutting the lining one inch longer to make it look like trim at the top. Its simple but cute. Thanks you so much. Cheryl

Great, detailed instructions. I did it like as sew along and watched, paused, copied. Super easy! I’ve made 2 today as parts of Christmas gifts.
Thanks to you I finally understood how to add a lining to my bag. And this added 1" of lining made such a wonderful finish. Thank you so very much for all your hard work and your generosity ;)
what a lovely bag!! the idea for the border is simply simple!! Thanks a lot !
Just finished my 10th bag. Started off making them for my 3 daughters, then some work colleagues wanted one and this last one is a Christmas present. Such an easy video to follow, thank you.
What a great way of using up some left over fabric, at least for the lining. I'm definitely going to try this. Thank you.💕
I like your work, everything is clear.. Thanks ❤🌷
Thank you Debbie so much for teaching us to sew this beautiful bag. I'm going to definitely try this. I accidentally bumped into this video but I'm glad I did ..💛💞
Thanks for sharing this. I love how you explain each detail and how you clearly show each measurements. I love the way, too, that you don't talk a lot even from the beginning as i really want to learn about the tutorial at once. Thanks again. God bless!
Just started back sewing I love making those bags . Thank you easy and clear directions.
Thanks for your very clear and precise presentation! I just made a bag using old jeans and found it very easy! You’re such an excellent teacher!
Thanks Debbie. Very clear and helpful video. I made a bag tonight with your help. Turned out very well thanks.
I love this video. Amazed how KZread comes through. A year after you post I’m looking to make a Halloween bag for my granddaughter and from many miles away this will work perfectly.
I will have to give this a go. you are an amazing teacher. thank you for the tutorials.
Love it! Can't wait to try this. I donate my bags to my church and they love them and I love being able to use up fabric I've collected over many years. Especially appreciate that all sorts of bag sizes can be made like this. Thank you so much for your easy, clear instructions.

Hi Debbie, my name is Karlon and I live in the south western portion of the United States in Santa Fe New Mexico. I really love this bag and I have made it for different times in different fabrics that reflect the culture of this part of the world. I have added pockets and different things to the outside and the inside to make it a little bit more utilitarian. People just love this bag and I want to say thank you for sharing and you expert teaching abilities. You make things so easy to follow.
Everything you make looks so professional. Very nice bag.
Love the Peekaboo lining!! Great tutorial~ Thanks.
Thanks, a great video for someone returning to sewing after a LONG time. Really clear instructions, and your calm friendly voice makes it enjoyable. Just made this with Indian fabric and it looks really sweet.

Fab. I love it. Very clear demonstration. Much appreciated, thanks Debbie Shore!
Thank you for all of yours tutorials. Thank you Deb, I have made 3 of these bags, & they have been a great hit with the family. Xxx

Thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial, I have now made my sister my first ever bag for her birthday and I also interlined it, I had to sew the handles on afterwards because I had chosen a bright pink cotton webbing and I attached them to the outside, and covered the sewing with felt flowers I made, I can't post a picture but I'm really pleased with it and I think my sister will love it!
Love your tutorials; simple and clear. Thanks for sharing.
Good clear and concise instructions. A breeze to make and so handy for shopping items.
Thank you so much for this video. You are best at explaining how to do it. Sending love from Prague :-)
Thankyou for this tutorial, my hubby bought me a sewing machine for my big birthday starting with a 6 !! Haven't touched a machine or sewing project since a disastrous gingham apron at school. I found that the step by step was clear to follow, got myself a little bag after approx 8hrs!!- I am sure I will become more competent 😀
Love this easy quick bag - if you make it, be sure to cut the 2 bottom corners on the 13" across side not on the long side!
that is so very kind of you. I really appreciate your videos. I am still very new to sewing. you are a good teacher.
I love this .. it gave me the confidence to experiment with my own designs using this as a base. Thank you
Wow ,simple and straight forward tutorial I've seen so far thank you so much The bag looks so professional and beautiful

I just made your bag and it turned out great. I used quilting cotton and attached a fusible mid weight stabilizer. Since it’s not sewn in place I’m concerned that it may come loose with use and washing. Your instructions are clear and easy to listen to. Thank you.

Hello Debbie, I have been watching you for a while now. I love everything you make. I made a bag for hubby last year just by watching you make bags. I am going to teach kids basic sewing and was looking for a basic bag pattern. WOW Just what I needed. I had a pattern, but wasn't sure if it was the right one. I came back to you and you didn't disappoint me. Just Awesome. Thank you for your Smarts:)
I don’t get how there are any dislikes at all, your patterns & instructions are always spot on. Always happy to see a new post from you.
Love the pattern. New to me tip to make the square bottom. I sewed the upper edge of the handle to the upper edge of the bag. Just a bit more strength/stability to the handle. Look forward to more of your awesome instructional techniques.
Lovely to watch you again Debbie. You started me sewing a few years ago and showed me how easy it was to use the modern machines these days. I have a bag video of yours which I couldn't use on my Mac but maybe I could try this one. I haved subscribed and look forward to more ideas.
Debbie, I have made two of these bags now and I absolutely love the pattern. Your instructions are so clear and the tips along the way are invaluable. I also used upholstery fabric and this creates a really sturdy bag for books, lunch for work and shopping trips. Thank you so much for all your hard work creating these videos, I have learned so much from you and really appreciate it.
