34 years ago in the late 80’s i had a 4 year old daughter........and I sewed stresses with....ruffles. I will never forget my precious husband going on his own to the sewing and vacuum cleaner store and asking them about a ruffler. He brought it home and I have NEVER looked back. One of my most cherished possessions. He told me that he appreciated my hard work to make our daughter and later daughters (6 of them) beautiful dresses and he would do whatever it took to make it easier... we are still married. From a 17 year old bride to one married 38 years I love the ruffler

For anyone reading that is working from the American duchess book....dont forget to add seams allowance to all their gridded patterns :)

Sweet! I’m not the only one who’s all hand sew on the outside, and machine/serger on the inside! Love the hand sewn look, but those machines were invented for a reason!

I personally don’t like the feeling of overlocked seams against my skin, but if it’s not something that goes directly against the skin, or the wearer doesn’t mind how it feels, use the tools in your arsenal.

Absolutely! I don't need to prove to anyone I can sew a straight seam! Prefer to save my hand sewing for the bits that really have to be hand sewn or that'll be seen.

This is awesome, and I love watching your videos and seeing your sewing. One small note, please be sure the music is at a lower volume than your voice in the future if possible. It was difficult to hear you clearly over the piano in this video. Thank you for making content, and sharing real sewing experiences.

yeah, one less thing to sew! my bum circumference naturally comes to double my waist measurement! First time in my life this will be useful AND considered pretty!

I love just watching you teach your housemates the basics of sewing. It just warms my heart. Also thank you so much for showing us accessories. I see so many videos for corsets/ stays, shifts and pretty gowns but not much else. I am definitely going to subscribe for new videos:)

I thought it was my hearing aides that caused the music to be that loud. Guess I'm not the only one. It was still a great watch though. Looking forward to more from here. Thanks for producing this

“These allow you to carry everything in the universe” is something I proved to my bewildered beloved by sticking an entire liter SmartWater bottle in them and it magically vanished under my gown. It also has the benefit of hiding all the medical related crap I have to carry lmao. Which is kind of nice because, unlike my bag, no one sees it but me. Aaand I have room for water, you know, just in case 😂😂😂.

I hear you! You're certainly not the only one to mention this. KZread messes with our audio levels when we upload so there is very little we can do once the video is up, but I've been able to compensate for that a bit on my more recent videos.

Aww, that's so sweet! Hmm, styling super short modern cuts into 18th century things is hard, but I think there was one in the American Duchess Beauty book that was for short hair in the front. And then you could just cover the back with a cap!

Clip-in hair pieces might work for you. My hair isn't as short, but I don't want to bother with styling it. For regency I've got a bun (will fit over my super short ponytail) and the curly bangs. Done in no time!

How are you supposed to put on this rump? Skirt piece closer to the body or pillows closer to the body?

I've seen it done both ways! American Duchess does it with the skirt closer to the body, but I sometimes flip it the other way so the skirts don't drop into the gap and look funny.

how long did the gathers take it must of taken ages. the most I've spent on doing gathers is 3 hours.

could you write out the maths you had to work out ? for me hearing maths stuff makes my brain fried but I think I would understand it if you typed it out if that makes sense :)

Nikki Lee-am has an excellent video detailing how to do the pleat maths for knife pleats, as well as giving instructions for cartridge pleats. It also has a link to a spreadsheet where you can input your measurements and it will do the calculations for you.
