If they can't fit pockets in our clothes, we'll bring back POCKETS AS FASHION.

Here is the link to SewStine's Etsy shop where I purchased the dumpster fire pocket kit; she doesn't sell the pre-embroidered kits at the moment this video is posted, but she does sell the digital embroidery pattern files if you do machine embroidery and want to give it a go yourself; or you might try contacting her through the shop to request a pocket set if you're really keen. www.etsy.com/shop/SewStine
To enter the giveaway: gleam.io/V6d5C/dumpster-fire-...
(You'll use your KZread account to enter, which presumably you all already have if you're here. ;) It's free and open to all countries that do not currently hold postage restrictions on items sent from the US.)
The winner will be drawn on Saturday, 21 November 2020 at 12 Noon EST.
MATERIALS USED:
Pocket embroidery panel: Sewstine www.etsy.com/shop/SewStine
Cotton twill backing: Sewstine www.etsy.com/shop/SewStine

Instead of a ribbon belt she used cotton and put a button on it. She called it a "besace". Nothing as pretty as what you made but essentially the same garment. 😭You're probably right about that. 😲Hate the fact when I do have garments w/pockets that invariably my change & chapstick will still fall out when I sit down. 🖤Love a good, secure pocket. Unfortunately, they tend to add bulk around areas where I don't want or need it. Plus, it's not like I'm gonna wear two cell phones📲, so I can look more balanced⚖. When out & about on 🚍public transport🚉 prefer to keep hands & shoulders free. The latter in case I need to tote some purchase, groceries, library items, etc. @ some point. Like to wear: •a petite crossbody purse for cash|cards, keys lipstick, & phone under a coat. Or... •a light jacket w/zippered pockets to hold the above that I can tie around waist. •a small back-pack for charging cable, water/coffee, gum/snack, hand sanitizer|sunscreen, extra mask, book, umbrella (for sun), small pad of paper & pen, foldable tote, etc. 🎒My backpack is basically to hold conveniences & serves as a decoy of sorts. It's big enough to hold my tiny purse, but I don't like have to root around for it. 🕵️‍♂️Typically, if someone wanted my backpack, they would be disappointed w/the contents. ☮💛🌼

It wasn't actually fashion companies solely responsible for the shrinking of women's pockets. It mostly was done in the suffragette era to discourage women from carrying pamphlets and protest gear. So yes, pockets were removed from women's fashion by misogyny, and they are indeed a lovely symbol of feminism for that reason. We need to start an "Honour the Suffragettes" grassroots campaign - get women to make and wear tie on pockets, as a symbol to say that what the patriarchy did back then was wrong and we stand against its effects. Plus we can carry protest gear in them when we riot about yet another horrid thing some old white men have done to women and/or minorities.

So HISTORY scholar here! Yes, pockets were purposely made smaller and smaller on womens clothing in the midst of womens rights and votes for women movements in the early 20th century to discourage women from carrying pamphlets and protest paraphernalia around. Pockets became political and women with pockets were making a political statement that they had the freedom to carry their own things. So when we make big pockets like this, not only are we making our lives easier, we're paying homage to our feminist sisters throughout history

True story! I too have checked pyjamas from the men’s section primarily for universal patterns (dark or neutrals, monochrome plaids, even patterns of interest that can blend with a tee from the ladies section), and can definitely attest the usefulness of pockets. Especially when the Bluetooth can’t even reach either a corner of the house while the phones charging, or both hands are occupied in day-to-day tasks. Way to bring this up!

It becomes funny when you think about how true it is. Like, Death? Can't escape from it. You can live a longer life if you take good care of yourself, but you can't run from death. Taxes? Pert of our economy and being an adult. Live with it, buddy. Limited pockets? The only way you get out of that one is to: 1. Make your clothes from scratch, *but ain't nobody got time for that.* 2. Make your own external pockets. Possible extra options: 3. Buy men's pants and tailor them to your liking. 4. Buy jeans that fit your waist or get some from a thrift store, turn them into skirts, and add g e n e r o u s pockets + suspenders, if needed.

It's beautiful and makes me wish I could still hand sew - hand pain has stopped that joy two years ago so found using a machine at the grand old age of 62 means I can still create as was more a knitter, crochet person before ( old-style patterns - cables, fair isle and fine yarn makes) with just odd sewing projects but to repetitive and painful now - but gives me the incentive to try and save up to by a sewing/embroidery machine so could buy the pattern, although I wonder if I could use the hand sewing pattern and ask my partner to trace it onto fabric and try using my ordinary machine and just use the fancy stitches on it and different coloured threads, be a challenge but not different from the applique I am trying to learn, in between making my very first Victorian Walking skirt - the one you made in modern length but I am doing full length. Have always loved historical clothing but only made the knitted items and bought others, never felt good enough to hand sew more than casual everyday items or do repairs.
