AD| Gifted Pattern
Thank you so much to @TillyButtons for gifting me a copy of their latest pattern, the Nell dress. I absolutely loved sewing this dress up. It was such a simple and fun sew and I was able to use some thrifted curtains which I'd had in my stash for a while. I hope you enjoy watching this thrift flip sewing vlog!

Beautiful dress I have purchased the pattern, looking forward to it arriving, not chosen my fabric yet.

Thank you ❤️ ah that’s so exciting! It’s such a great pattern for summer
This dress is great early 90s vibes and I might need one. I had a few dresses like this as a young teenager and wore them until I outgrew them! Now in my 40s, I may need to revisit that ultimate comfort, yet pulled together dress style.

Oooo yes I thought the same! Very early 90s and so comfy. Definitely the perfect summer make ❤️
Love your videos. Just one question-would it be possible to turn the music down a little while you are speaking? It’s a little hard to hear you. Your dress is beautiful. I just ordered the pattern from seeing yours. Thank you so very much for sharing with us. 🩵

Hi Rachel, I think the dress suits you. Re the buttonhole function letting you down half way through, that happened to me once. I got the machine manual out and followed instructions to do a deep clean, took the feed dog off and saw a large lint ball just sitting there. It all worked fine after a deep clean up. Worth a try. Thanks for your videos

Oh thank you! I did actually wonder if that was the issue because my machine is in dire need of a good clean. I will take your advice and give it one!
I just found your channel and I'm in love with your aesthetic and vision for life ! As a mom of 4-- I love the idea of slowing down but they tend to keep me quite busy. I LOVE the idea of a faux bow front ... I might have to make that super soon ! Thanks for sharing your make and excuse me while I go into a deep dive of all your past videos. 😍😁 (Just as a suggestion -- you should make a few playlists of your videos ! BiMonthly roundups, cooking videos, gardening, etc!) So glad to have found you !

That’s so exciting! This is a great first pattern. Take it nice and slow, best way to do it ❤️
I’ve just bought some dark green linen look viscose from pound fabric…green gutterman thread and green horn shell buttons. Your vlog has really inspired me to make this dress. I bought the pattern last week, but I’m a bit nervous to start it…as I am a beginner. But seeing it in the flesh has made me really want one.. as the fabric is fairly cheap, it is going to be my wearable twirl. And I’ve always wanted a plain linen prairie style dress, so this pattern is perfect. It looks so lovely on you.

Hi Rachel , your dress is lovely and what a bargain for the fabric.❤ I bought the pattern on the day it was released and have some gorgeous Liberty fabric that was a birthday treat to make it in

I am so curious on how the puffball sleeve is constructed and feels. Will you make that version? And if so, a brief sew along/tutorial/top tips video would be great! I really love Tilly’s patterns but I have so much on my list to sew!

Yes I am curious too actually haha I will definitely make that version one day and will try to film a sew along 😊❤️

Hi Rachel 😊 I just love your version of the Nell, that curtain fabric is such a perfect match for it. I’ve made the same version and I am so happy with it. My next one will be in red linen. Will you make it again? Ruth x

Oh my, my 90's teen self just got excited! The dresse looks lovely on you
So pretty and looks nothing like curtain fabric. Maybe ties each side would pull it in a tad if you're worrying about it being oversized. It looks lovely on you.
@RachelBearn

Thank you Liz! I did wonder about that but think I’ve decided to keep it oversized for those comfy days ❤️
Hi Rachel, I’ve just bought a Nell kit from Jenny Stitches with a gingham cotton. What size did you sew? A couple of folk have said it comes up quite big, did you find that. I love the idea of using a vintage curtain! I think it is going to be my favourite summer dress.
@RachelBearn

Hi Mary! Yes I did find it came up big and I think I might size down next time. I do like having a comfy oversized dress though so might trace off the pattern so I can have it in two sizes. It’s going to be lovely in the gingham you’ve bought 😻
Just found your channel, and I love your videos! Lots of inspiration to be gleaned! Question - what pattern is the dress/top in your introduction clip? It's so cute!

@@RachelBearn I LOVE the Pansy pattern! I should have known haha. Now I simply must make one out of a sewing related printed cotton.
What do you mean by 'stitch in the ditch'? I've heard of it in quilting but never in dressmaking. Lovely dress, your sewing is beautiful. Also, how do you decide what size to make in comparison to buying your normal size on the high street ? X
@RachelBearn
Ай бұрын
Hi Donna, stitching in the ditch is sewing a line of stitching right inside a seam so it can’t be seen. Probably the same as quilting! Normally it’s done to hold down a facing. Thank you very much ❤️ I always go by my measurements and look at the finished garment measurements and decide which will look best. In this case I went for the size which was bigger then my measurements for that over sized look but next time I might go down a size instead. I never use my high street size as it’s so variable. Always measure with a tape measure for sewing 😊 hope that helps x
I appreciate that you give your own opinion but I always have a chuckle when I hear that a brand did not ask the giftee to talk about their gift. I'm not really a Tilly fan. I buy her patterns and then they just sit unused. I do really like this pattern but I have so many patterns which are basically the same. Still tempted though.
May I ask which size you made (sorry if you said it and I missed it..). I would like to make the blouse version out of a flowy viscose
@RachelBearn

I made size 7 but might downsize next time as it’s quite a voluminous fit!
First time watching and really really good video but please no music when you are talking.......hope you don't mind me saying 😳
