Keep up the good work Network Rail. You should still electrify from Cardiff Central to Swansea to allow Class 800 and Class 802 to run fully electric.

Why not use one of those Swiss maintenance train that do all the work in one big swoop as it goes along the track? Wouldn't that be much quicker and more efficient? Might be more expensive, but the closure would perhaps only be 1-2 days, and not 10. There is a huge savings for everyone there.

We do have a maintenance train that can do that but it cannot work in the tunnel due to clearance issues.

@@danielwalls5150 I keep forgetting that the British loading gauge is very narrow and low compared to other countries.

@@sjokomelk it’s not the loading gauge (which admittedly is much smaller as you said), it’s the dimensions. The train we use has parts that move in from the side and above, which are not possible in the Severn tunnel’s space.

Would directing the moisture dripping off the walls away from the railbed be something to consider?

Any thoughts about building a new tunnel to modern standards?

I would imagine for the cost of building a new tunnel, you’ll be able to do a lot of rail changes when required. The old cost benefit analysis.

is the new track continuously welded, or legacy?

Even good music is irritating as background music, and this is not good music. And it's far too loud.
