Severe Thunderstorm with Intense Lightning - 8-1-19 (WeatherCase #2)
Before anyone comments about it... YES I am aware the loud thunder is distorted. NO, the camera does not offer microphone gain adjustment. After a period of dry weather and seeing few storms that were really significant, the month of August started off with a bang! This storm is the most lightning intense storm of 2019 (to date) for this area, and one of the worst for lightning we have seen in at least a couple years. This severe storm was responsible for downing multiple trees, as well as starting at least one house fire due to lightning. There were definitely a lot of close strikes with this one... and it seemed to just go on and on and on!

I really enjoyed this thunderstorm video. I grew up in upstate NY and SC, and now am in the desert of Utah. 2 weeks ago we had the first decent thunderstorm in a couple of years. This video reminded me of how much I love these storms and how I miss them. Thank you for sharing your storm videos for me and I'm guessing hundreds of people who love a good storm too. Subscribed.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. I have ADD and find it difficult to stay focused while at work from time to time. To combat this I've created a play list of thunderstorm videos. Yours make up the bulk of them due to the quality of the sound. I just start them up and off I go! If start to "squirrel off", a nice peal of thunder snaps me back" Thanks for the great work!

The sound may not be completely the top of the Bill, but this real time filmed storm makes an gigantic impact. And I like the slow build-up. That is the real stuff! You did a great job!

Cool physics fact: sometimes right as the lightning flashes you can hear a little popping sound. That is the electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the lightning bolt being picked up by the camera.

Those buzing sounds are cicadas.
GORGEOUS STORM!!! That violet-purple tinge to the sky reminds me of the storms I used to see in FL when I lived there briefly several years ago. FL had amazing lightening storms that would intercede the brilliant sunsets so that you wound up with lightening that was red, orange, purple, bright blue, hot pink, yellow gold, even green!!! That's the only thing I liked about FL other than the wildlife!!

As heard here, I've noticed during particularly strong storms there is a high swishing, whooshing sound despite there being very little wind if any and I'm curious what causes it. (And no, I'm not referring to the passing vehicles in the background)

I would guess you're hearing nearby winds. Not really sure otherwise.

@@cubecompmtdx I've been able to eliminate that as a likely source of what I'm hearing as I've also heard it during storms occurring over flat, high desert terrain. Having witnessed St. Elmo's fire dance along a wire fence and high voltage transmission lines, it sounds almost like faint static or strips of bacon frying off in the distance somewhere and I wonder if I'm hearing a static discharge in the atmosphere. Similar reports have been made by people who claim to hear something similar during auroral displays. Also, those loud, ominous metallic horn sounds heard all over the world, sometimes called "skyquakes". Related?

@@jordoneaton7083 I will say the audio from this particular camera was not all that great. I have newer storm videos from 2020 and 2021 on the channel that were shot with a much better camera. Feel free to find a newer storm video and see if you notice the same thing.

@@cubecompmtdx Yes, the video you posted on 11-30 of last year, "Thunderstorm - 8-17-2021 (Porch)" - I hear it faintly starting around 10:30 and while it's at times difficult to filter out the various insects and other fauna and the occasional passing vehicle, it's most certainly there. Sounds like a slow, haunting whisper.
Thunder in any thunderstorms actually or technically creates or makes some violence and often some threat
