I love the fact that you are so encouraging to people who have not yet started their budgeting journey. A lot of the youtubers who do budgeting, that I've seen, are very judgmental when it comes to those not on their level. You are an absolute breath of fresh air.

That is a huge compliment, thank you. I remember being in a hard spot and how hopeless and overwhelming it feels and I don't ever want to be inadvertently discouraging. It's really tough getting started. I really appreciate your comment.

I completely agree with you. She seems to be a lovely person. I also love that she talks about struggling and uses those statements to further encourage. I started this budgeting journey 1.5 year ago. I don't follow Dave Ramsey's plan to the letter because I live in Greece and salaries here are not that high. But at the same time sinking funds have made my life a lot easier. I don't run around every time my car insurance or a medical bill is due, the money is already there. I remember watching a budget video of yours that got me started. And I really enjoy watching your videos because you encourage people that are not on the same page as you to keep going without judging them. Something that is really refreshing.

Loved your lay out it definitely gave me a few ideas for my future one as well! My husband and I just started budgeting since we started following Dave Ramsey’s baby steps in January. I ordered the EC deluxe monthly planner today and I’m so excited for it to get here so I can have our budget all laid out clearly in front of us. We’ve been tracking everything since the beginning of the year in a plain ole spiral notebook but I just feel like this planner will make things not only easier but more visually pleasing as well which will motivate us more to keep up with it.

My husband and I are currently trying to pay off our debt along with our regular bills. But we also try to save a little each month for travel, and 2 other things. This is such a simplified way of having your finances all laid out, and for us it’s better to have all our bills on the monthly layout vs making a budget each month and trying to stick to that. Plus living in japan for the next few years does help I’m saving money, because traveling here isn’t expensive and there are a lot of things that are free or museums are cheap.

This has been been very informative. My husband and I are going to be starting a budget this year. Fortunately, we're not really big spenders, but we do like nice vacations and have hobbies that need funding, not to mention other costs that just come up in the course of living. LOL. We're saving for a house and would like to put down a big down payment, so we're budgeting. It is a bit overwhelming, though, because I'm really not good at "thinking ahead," and breaking things down. I'll get there. I'll be using your video as a guide. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you and your family a Happy & Healthy New Year!

Your budgeting videos are inspiring and so helpful (I’ve watched most of them now! 😆) and I’m trying to start organizing my finances better this year - starting with sinking funds! I had a question about cash envelopes if you wouldn’t mind answering. I do many of my purchases online, and I’m just wondering how you reconcile that with the cash envelope system. Do you take the cash out of the relevant envelope and then put it towards the following week/month? I’m wondering if I should try an app that has a digital envelope system or if cash is better because it is tangible. Thank you!

@@JenPlans I want to also give you a HUGE thank you for these tutorials. I found you a little over one year ago and ended up purchasing my first deluxe monthly planner and use it the same way you have shown. I LOVE it! Also, regarding YNAB - I completely understand feeling intimidated - it is not a very intuitive program. BUT- it is an AMAZING program and I promise, promise, PROMISE you that if you look up Nick True here on KZread and follow his tutorials you will be up and running in no time at all. He really makes it extremely easy to grasp. If you join the YNAB FB group and search his name you will see he has quite the following. Seriously, YNAB should put him on their payroll. lol Please do yourself a favor and just try it out and follow his tutorials to learn how to use the software. YNAB gives you something like 34 days to try it out so that you can see how things look when you move from one month into another. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you to check it out - it will save you SO much time just by tracking your sinking funds for you and you also won't need to carry cash in envelopes anymore because you can categorize everything and see how much you have in each category. Even your husband can use it and the app will show the balance to each of you in real-time as long as you enter purchases immediately. Anyway, I could go on and on but I'll stop now. lol Just do it! : )

JenPlans YNAB is awesome. They offer workshops that are about 20 minutes each, and they have them at all different times of the day. They’re free and you don’t even have to use YNAB to take them if you want to check those out first to get an idea of how it works before you even sign up for a trial. I use this in addition to my deluxe monthly, but i end up abandoning the Deluxe Monthly for a month or two here and there. 😂 www.youneedabudget.com/free-workshops/

So i discovered you today and feel so fortunate. watched both sinking funds videos. it totally makes sense i love it. so this might seem like a ridiculous question, and maybe i missed the video, but where or do you track set expenses? i know you code your calendar and it's on the note pages at the beginning of each month but lets take groceries. so you take cash out on saturday but was there a page that you set up to help you know what you should/could spend at the grocery store. now, i realize you are not a financial planner, but rather showing us erin condren. i was just wondering how you budget groceries, specifically. it seems like most tracking is for sinking funds. maybe i just need to print off the dave ramsey worksheets. just wondering if you planned budget in an erin condren. like how you worked out your spending cash and where you track your hair appointments and all. i guess what i'm trying to say is: do you track fixed expenses? my problem in the past is that my fixed expenses go up or change and then the main budget needs adjusting. sorry to ramble on.

Maybe you could track net worth on the pages after your sinking fund dots. You don’t have to share with YT, but it’s nice to see Net Worth growing. Thanks for sharing!

Jen, Erin Condren doesn't sell the gradient color strips in the size to fit the planners.....Her's are too long to fit in the box.....Any suggestions?

Just curious what made you select analog over digital for financial planning? Wouldn’t an Excel workbook be less work in manual calculations, because formulas do the math for you?

This is great, thank you for sharing! I’ve been semi-consistent with tracking a budget over the last couple of years, but intend to make this one of my top goals for 2020. This setup is going to be very helpful as I think about the best system for me. Quick question - I see that you are tracking monthly sinking funds and bills, but does this also include other monthly expenses such as groceries or gas? Where and how do you track these expenses? Apologies if I missed this in this video!

No apologies needed! You didn't miss it! I use cash for groceries and dining out so those come out on Saturdays in that cash withdrawal. Gas I note on my bills page after I've spent it!

JenPlans ah, yes, cash! That makes sense. Maybe I just need to stop going to Target bc I always have a plan and then... I go to Target! 😂

I kept rewinding to see how you added extra note pages- how did you do that?? That's genius.
