Setting up the Mopeka Pro+ Propane Monitor and Adding to Victron

Ғылым және технология

In this video, I explore a feature discussed on the Victron Community Forum: wireless monitoring of my 500-gallon propane tank and its integration into the Victron environment. This integration allows me to conveniently monitor all my utilities from one central location. We'll be looking at installing the Mopeka Pro+ LR Wireless Propane Monitor which should help broadcast a wireless signal far enough to reach my Cerbo.

    Very neat. And the fact that Victron enables systems like this to be integrated is impressive.

    Even though their website does say sonar, It's probably ultrasonic, the grease helps the sensor get a good interface to the tank. I might have to look into one of these for the propane tank for my generator, good video.

    Adam, good morning. Firstly, thank you for all of these informative videos. I remember a few months back watching one of your videos where you talked about a company that you purchased your PV wiring for a really good price. I can't seem to find that video. If you could let me know the name of that company, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Thanks! I guess it might depend on if you’re looking for actual PV wire or if you’re looking for wire to run in conduit to the house from the array. So here’s a link to my website where I’ve got different wire listed: going-off-grid.com/cables-conenctions/#wire. I know I bought a lot of THHN from a company on eBay and that was all the wire I used in conduit from the array to the charge controller. If you need actual PV wire, I bought a lot just on Amazon from various places.

    That’s awesome Adam! By the way, how are the Multiplus 5000 inverters doing? Any issues with running your whole house?

  • @AdamDeLay07

    @AdamDeLay07

    Thanks Bruce! Everything’s just running. I only have a few things that aren’t on the Victron system and that would be the AC, Dryer, Oven and the Barn. The nice thing that I’ve seen is when the inverters are “overloaded” they switch over to grid seamlessly and you never know. Then when the load drops below the programmed level, then it switches back over to battery power.

    Adam, if you have a 3d printer I'd print some ledges/eaves? to glue to the sides of the tank to preven water running all the way around the belly of the tank to the sensor. like mini roofs? idk if i'm making myself clear.

    Oh yeah! I just wish I would have gotten all this done before winter... I spent too much time last summer "playing solar" and didn't get enough wood to run our boiler, so we were stuck running the furnace (and making treks to the tank to check levels).

    I’m not sure if this specific one can, but I know I’ve seen different options for water or other fuel sources in the settings. So I know they have them.

    Sorry about that. Makes me wonder if they have other ones for underground tanks? Not sure what would have to change for them to be able to mount the sensor at the top of the tank. Seems like it would have to detect the empty space vs the volume of propane?
