    @@Ahmed_Asif Stephen obviously knew it. But he acknowledges that not everybody watching at home knew. That's the sort of dumbing down you have do in standard network television. Conan O'Brien's Serious Jibber-Jabber, for instance, would be my best example of the opposite. There is little or no dumbing down, but to a larger extent you have to be genuinely interested in the subject they're discussing, otherwise you won't be able to keep up.

    Not to degrade Frank Sinatra, Seth MacFarlane or Stephen Colbert, but the saddest part of this interview is when no one knew who Nelson Riddle was. Nelson was a true talent, he brought me much joy in his arranging and orchestrations.

  • @broadcasttttable

    @broadcasttttable

    11 ай бұрын

    For sure. One reason, among many, Frank liked working with Riddle was he didn't kiss Sinatra's butt. My favorite Nelson anecdote was the story behind the song generally considered to be Sinatra's signature piece during his "swing" era, "I've Got You Under My Skin." How Riddle wrote the arrangement in the back seat of the car taking him to the recording session in the "wee small hours of the morning." Also the standing ovation he received from the jaded, "seen it all" orchestra members at the conclusion of the recording. And the big smile on Sinatra's face as, post-recording and probably something he had never done before, he invited Milt Barnhart into the sound producer's booth to hear the track the trombonist had just laid down, possibly the greatest 'bone solo in popular music history.

    +The Great Catsby I see where you're coming from, Mr. Catsby, but I highly doubt Stephen means to be a dick. You can hear him say "sorry" immediately after he stopped singing lol. He's really just a big nerd who loves conversation rather than interviewing, the latter of which he didn't do as much with his old show where most of it centered around him. It's probably one of those nervous twitches where you want so badly to contribute to a conversation you know a lot of things about, so you almost can't control yourself from interjecting... I also hope he can find a balance between being a good host and showing off (something i honestly don't mind that he does, he's not arrogant to me at least)

    Anyone think his new album has something to do with Emilia Clarke? I'm not one to usually care about celebrity relationships but I like Seth a lot, and I think it would be cool if that was why he decided to make such a sad Sinatra style concept album. It would make it feel more real if he actually was heart broken while recording like Frank apparently was with In The Wee Small Hours.

  • @markopolo958

    @markopolo958

    8 жыл бұрын

    ***** Really? Interesting. If that is true it still doesn't go against what I am saying though. I don't care if it's Emilia Clarke I just think it is cool when musicians can really understand what they're singing about. Especially since Seth, like Sinatra, doesn't write his own songs (on this album anyway). My point is that when a musician does write his own songs you already know it is from the heart, but for an album like Seth's where he doesn't write the lyrics, it is cool to know he decided to do a melancholy concept album because of real relationship problems. Capiche?

    +MrOneNye They were used with smaller-sized records call "45's"--because the turntable moved at a quicker speed. You would buy the hits (side A) and then some other song (usually not a hit) was on the "B" side. You would buy them for around $1 or 2 at the "record store" on the main street or in the mall.

    +splashpont really? there was a time you could "Itunes" a vinyl on the street and get a even better deal than you can with Apple and get 2 songs for a buck? thats awesome, I thought it was a modern thing to sell music for a dollar lol. You got a twofer for a dollar? thats a better deal than what you get on itunes cause you were at least taking home vinyl and not something digital. they could have continued that with mini cds but I guess there is no market for people that want the highest quality being produced into their premium headphones. consumers were forced to stay compliant with digital and go FLAC digital and that solves it for everyone I guess "/ lol. thanks for the information. I looked it up on dictionary dot com and read the info there as well. thanks again.

    +MrOneNye When I was a teenager in the mid-70s, 45s cost 55¢. You could build up a library real fast, but storing records was a nightmare. Racks for singles took up a ton of space. In the late 70s a chain called Peaches opened up huge record stores, and they sold DIY "peach crates" for storing your albums. No dorm room was complete without at least a couple of them. They sold mini crates for cassettes as well.

    Disappointed Colbert didn't do any research on Seth's background in singing. He talked about Seth's similarity to Sinatra, but didn't realize that Seth actually learned to sing from the same teacher who taught Sinatra how to sing. It's not just imitation, Seth sings like that because he was trained that way!
