    Wow! I wish I would have seen this 2 years ago! I've been trying to get my head around how to use Midi on my rig and with an Amp with built-in effects and I finally understand it! PTL! IT took me a while to understand that the Loops in the back of the G3 were Audio loops for each effect pedal and NOT TRS Midi Loops. But now I got it. I'd like to actually see the back of your G3 to literally see which connection is going to what, but either way, I FINALLY understand how to set up a Midi controller on my rig! ..... and all that without needing to break into my computer!!! WOW!

    I got rid of my G2 after years of service, it was one of the best products I've bought in the past decade. Daniel was so in tune and in touch with his customers it was awesome. Sadly, I've turned into a bedroom player and just like being able to switch pedals around here and there. I feel the G2/G3 won't make sense for me, but boy I wish I could justify it! Kudos on the kick ass product.

    @@TheGigRigDaniel this might not be the place for such a question and if so no worries but here we go... You probably don’t recall but on a previous TPS VCQ I asked about a two board, two G2 set up configured as one “core board” and another for “add-ons” and you told me the best way to do that would probably be putting the secondary board’s G2 in one of the loops of the primary G2. Seems to me from everything I’ve seen on these videos and your website that with G3 the same thing is possible and it’s still the best way to do this. My main question though is whether the secondary G3’s loop presets can be controlled somehow from a preset on the primary G3? In other words when I change presets on the primary G3 can that “click” also change what is engaged on the secondary G3 or would I still need to “manually” select the secondary G3’s relevant preset and active loops as needed? Hope I’ve described that well enough to make sense?

If you put the ML10 in a loop of G3 and control it with MIDI that will give you the best of all worlds. Use your most used effects in G3’s other loops so the ML10 is bypassed when you don’t need it, then activate the ML10 loop and send the MIDI message to activate it. Hope that helps 🤓🙏

    Hey Dan! I’m getting excited for my G3 to arrive. Silly question, but do I assign a switch to get to my tuner? This is a little new to me because for years I would just have my main output from my loop switcher coming into my tuner so I wasn’t wasting a loop for the tuner itself. I had to step on the tuner itself to turn it on. It would be nice to have the tuner on the new board I’m putting together and just get to it with the G3 instead. 😊

  • @TheGigRigDaniel

    @TheGigRigDaniel

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Kristen, we’re excited for you to get it as well. Yes, you simply choose what footswitch you want to assign for your tuner, then select tuner from the menu. That’s it, now when you press that footswitch the built in tuner will activate. Another neat trick is to assign the built in tuner to a hidden preset, I have my first preset as a basic bypass tone. If I press that a second time it brings up s hidden preset which is where I have my tuner 🙏👍

    G3 has many advantages over G2, but crucially it effectively has fewer loops. On G2 you did not have to sacrifice a loop for the send & return of your FX loop. G2 has two stereo loops as part of its 10 loops. If you want two stereo loops on G3 you have to double up on loops, two loops per stereo pedal. So a G3 using your FX loop and two stereo pedals would be left with 7 loops for other pedals, giving you a total of 9 pedals. The same setup on G2 would support 10 pedals, two stereo pedals plus 8 others.

    Just to be clear, it also switches the preamp of any amplifier? Its super nice you can put the preamp of an amplifier in a loop, but I never hear people talk about the switching of the preamps in the amplifier. Is this because this is like stating the obvious? Just insecure about this part. So example, bank 1 is clean(channel one of the amp) with reverb and delay, bank two is crunch(channel two of the amp) with an overdrive pedal. Might be a pointless question but I never see this adressed in detail so 😊

  • @TheGigRigDaniel

    Hey RP, G3 has 3 ways to switch the preamp depending on the amp. It has programmable remote switches so if your amp uses a standard two button footswitch you can simply swap the footswitch with G3’s remote switching. 2nd is MIDI incase your amp is MIDI programmable, and third is audio. If your amp has separate inputs for each channel , DC30 for example, you can switch the channels by simply choosing which G3 output to use 👍

    I was very happy to see the 12 effect loops instead of the previous 10 but then I noticed that you have to sacrifice 1 for the effect loop instead of using the volume insert on the G2. I will still buy a G3 in the next few days though with all these midi improvements, the possibility to reorder the loops, the digital screen and app that make it a lot more user friendly. G2 is still one of my very best purchase in the past years so I know I won’t be disappointed with the G3. For the G4, I wish we could get a tuner integrated that would be great 😁, and small digital screens on each preset with the name of the preset. With the release of the G3 i guess I can still wait for a deep update of the midi + app 😂.

    Now, if you really, really wanted to make this stupidly powerful, make the ins/out TRS connectors with a dip switch under each one that lets you select whether it will be a stereo or mono loop. That way you don't have to give up 6 monos loops to get 3 stereo loops. And you just use TRS to TS breakout cables to connect the stereo effects. Let the CPU sense the switch position, so it knows which ones are which type, or if that's not practical, allow them to be selected in the menu.
