Honestly if you are interested in seeing their growth as a band and as musicians it is chronological. But really it doesn't matter as long as you keep in mind where you are at in their catalogue. They started as talented and now are stellar performers that come along only once in a very great time.

they always were stellar telented but the first songs were wanted by their management. After Brand New Maid album they had started playing for themselves and not that management company. Glad they did it. They were being stifled for sure.

@@thissailorja Kanami was once asked in an interview if the band would ever record any of the songs she had written that were rejected by the record company. Her answer was no. She said that that was the past and she was thankful to the company for providing songs for them at first because it helped her to understand rock music and made her a better song writer. It allowed them time to mature and understand what it took to be the phenomenal performers they are today.

The work/life balance in japan is way off kilter, going from high business all the way down to hospitality! Depression/burn-out, self harm and worse are not un-common, the japanesse government is slowly trying to address this, but its a very engrained national way off life.

Maid my day! Sygne's back! Excellent and entertaining comments as expected. Some of Miku's history being hinted on in the video - after struggling as a vocalist, she worked in a cafe dressed as a maid before starting the Band. The video is located in that cafe. As primary lyricist I think she is very much reflecting on what drives her After that Life. Chronological sounds cool. One exception might be visiting a big live performance for a change of pace - maybe 'Domination (live)' or 'Freedom (live)'.

I think you'd like the live "About Us" their most recent song and a gorgeous ballad. I think you'd like the bass in that one. Misa has yet another bass, a new one from Black Cloud. It is a 5-string Jazz bass with a worn look to make it look old. She finger picks in that video. The bass looks a lot like the Fender 4-string Jazz bass she used in the early videos like "Thrill". "Thrill" was their 1st MV and even then she has a bass solo.

Like @Gary Holloway said... Chronological order would be a different way to do it and surely a wonderful trip from early works to recent ones. From the days where they had people composing for them to the days where what you see/hear is 100% Band-Maid creation. If you could go as far as their first album ("Maid In Japan") even without a MV, it would be awesome... they are still good (really good, I love that whole album) but very different from what came to be THE start of what we recognise as the Band-Maid sound with "Thrill", "REAL EXISTENCE" or "Don't Let Me Down" - all these 3 with MVs... and from then on, it's ...well, you know...

Miku when she found Kanami had an agreement in hand from her agency for her to create a band with a Maid theme. Miku had won the Super Idol Audition in 2011 and had been a member of Lil Cumin (Jpop Trio), so she wasn't unknown. On a TV show she said she had been a DJ at her High School. She can come an across as ditzy, but she is anything but! She put a band of strangers together and held them together until their breakout MV "Thrill". From that MV they learned that nearly half the views were from Europe and the US. They played at an Asian Festival in Seattle with their largest audience to date, 3000. From there annual tours in Europe and in 2019 5 sold-out concerts in the US. Today their fan base is primarily in Europe and the US through they have a high profile in Japan now due to their foreign fanbase. Miku Kobato ís a very smart, talented, tough and beautiful lady. You would not want to negotiate against her or play poker with her.

Everything since their 4th album “Just Bring It” (which is also their 1st full album) is Top notch. Kanami their lead guitarist and the one who writes and arranges almost everything currently also started taking charge from this album onwards. Everything before that was still their learning phase and they hadn’t found their own sound yet. Or to put it bluntly their label didn’t allow them to do their own thing snd it was mostly external writers and they had to work with what was provided. So if you want to start chronologically, starting from the 4th would be my best recommendation.

I believe that the most "Difficult" Band Maid song is "Different" They wrote it as a theme song for a Japanese anime and had to make it at a super high pace, what with all the different modulations made it very difficult, especially for our Little Pigeon, Miku. Misa has played 5 strings almost exclusively since their early recordings. She plays a GS Precision, a custom made that she calls "Smoking Black", and I've seen a blonde Fender 5 string in some recent vids. She also has some curls in her hair in recent vids that I, personally find quite sexy!

Welcome back! :) I see this video, even though it may seem quite simple at first glance, as a small masterpiece. The first scene takes place in exactly THE maid café where Miku used to work as a maid and where the idea for Band-Maid was born. We have 5 actors of whom 4 gradually join the madness after first looking at it in wonder and reluctance. And then we have the title 'After Life' with its lyrics and a final scene in which harmony reigns, which complete this puzzle quite well. Coincidences? Maybe, but I think we get presented here a very entertaining version of the band's formation and the whole thing accompanied by a damn good soundtrack. 🤘🏻

hehe - so far you have mentioned their punk influences on every video (besides "About Us" I think). And here you go with "ska". Exactly - they may be classified more in the hard-rock, but I agree - at it's core, at it's heart - it's also pretty much a punk band. They definitely took the attitude (clearly seen at their live shows; but "cuter"), but none of the politics. Well, they took the pure essence, punk wasn't very political until much later XD "After Life" is in the bottom half for me on the "Unseen World" album. Not bad at all, but the other songs are just more to my liking. The MV has CC btw. The lyrics aren't exactly about what's depicted in the video. They are way more on the darker side. They probably thought it would be better to lighten them up a little in the MV, making it more crazier instead BTW. There is also a pretty cool "Making Of" available for this one on their paid fan-club site. And it doesn't have very much of a "Making Of" stuff - there was nothing much to say about that filming, besides "We played in a small coridor, the smoke/fog was real, my eyes hurt ... that's basically it". BUT they were in make-up and dressed up in their uniforms anyways - not a lot of opportunities for that in 2020 XD - and there was a camera guy available, and there was a nice filming location nearby - so they decided to film something else instead. "Band-Maid" at their goofiest and funniest possible hahahaha If you decide to go for the chronological order... Hmmm... it might surprise you :D They started very pop-punkish and/or pop-rock. Don't get me wrong - even the first album was good, but it was different. MISA hated the music they played back then XD And it didn't took them all that long to find their sound. But their progress is damn interesting to follow - so, I would say, sure, go chronological.

The Bass that MISA has is not a Gibson SG Bass. It is a signature model of MISA of 5 strings SG type of brand called Black Clowd.

It’s a black cloud personal reserve special bass. It looks very like a gibson but isn’t. Gotta say i was enthused by her playing a “gibson” but this is better ❤️❤️

Have you done any live music by them? I think you should try: Domination live - everyone gets a short solo, Misa switching her playing between picking and slapping. It’s like Guitar Hero. Onset live - Akane kills the drums, lots of finger taps Cross live - nice vocal intro by Saiki. More melodic rock sound.

The red base of Misa is a special order of Private Reserve of Black Cloud. Black Cloud supports Misa.

I doubt you will find a bad song. Even those small venues where it was shot with a phone. The sound isn't great on those but their interaction with the audience makes it worth it. In one video Misa shreds and taps on the bass, challenging Kanami in a play off. Don't need to react to them but for your enjoyment.

Doesn't matter what order you do them in! You can try a few of the instrumental videos - GIOVANI - BLACK HOLE - REAL EXISTENCE (MV version is good) The back room of a maid cafe - MIKU's photo is on the wall at the beginning of the video. In a nutshell the video has nothing to do with the song. It is a short history of the band - starting with MIKU - RED Then KANAMI with the Purple on the bench then KANAMI with the chair and wearing Yellow after comes MISA as the cleanup crew and then SAIKI as the Manager - Pretty much the order that MIKU brought them into the band. This is all MIKU's idea from the start of the band originally. She knows what she's doing. That said these are all very smart and talented women and I respect them for all that they have done. NOT A GIBSON!!!! MISA's Bass is a BLACK CLOUD - Private Stock.

I notice that you consistantly talk over the vocal parts and then listen intently to the the instrumental portions.
