Session 2 - Kenny Higashi, Nisei Son of SD & the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team

Lauren Harris, author of "A Place for Harvest: The Story of Kenny Higashi," focuses on illuminating the experiences of men who fought in the 100th/442nd battalion. In 1942, Kenny Higashi enlisted to keep his family together and to maintain their Spearfish farm. He is the only member of the 100th/442nd known to be born in South Dakota. Because of Kenny, South Dakota is forever connected to one of the most highly decorated units in the Army.

I wish the people telling these great stories would get at least the unit designation correct, the purple heart battalion was the 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate) originally from Hawaii. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was primarily people from the main land, from internment camps. The 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate) was incorporated into the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, it replaced the 1st Battalion which was a training Battalion back in the United States. the correct unit designation was the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team. Which is now a reserve unit stationed in the Pacific.
